There is no defensible all-time ranking of every cordless impact-wrench brand: the strongest comparison available here tested ten mid-torque models, not every brand or wrench class. In Pro Tool Reviews’ 2025 head-to-head, the DeWalt DCF891 was the overall winner, Milwaukee’s 2962 was runner-up, and Makita’s GWT07 placed third; Ryobi’s P262 was the value pick. Those are model-level results, not proof that one brand is best at every job.

What the 2025 comparison can—and cannot—rank

Pro Tool Reviews’ 2025 head-to-head tested ten mid-torque cordless impact wrenches from DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Ryobi, Metabo HPT, Flex, Ridgid, Bosch, Hilti and Craftsman. It reported separate outcomes for breakaway, an inertia-torque rig and a lag-bolt test, and named an overall winner, runner-up, third-place model and value pick. It did not establish a universal ranking of those brands or a single complete order for every model. See the Pro Tool Reviews comparison and its test details.

That distinction matters: a wrench can lead one test and place lower on another. The table shows the reported results side by side, while the awards reflect the review’s own conclusions. The article lists different battery configurations for some models, so these are comparison results from the tested setups—not battery-independent specifications or a guarantee of what another setup will achieve.

The named picks, from the test’s top overall result

1. DeWalt DCF891 — overall winner

DeWalt’s DCF891 led the comparison’s breakaway test at 2.97 seconds and tied for first in the lag-bolt test, where the reported result was “SUNK.” It placed fifth on the inertia-torque rig at 392.8 ft-lbs, so it did not lead every measure. The test listing paired it with an 8.0Ah PowerPack battery. It is the strongest overall choice if you want to follow the review’s verdict, rather than select solely for the highest reported inertia-torque result.

2. Milwaukee 2962 — runner-up and shortest head in the group

The 2962 combined a compact 5.88-inch head—the shortest of the ten in the comparison—with second place in breakaway at 3.26 seconds. Its other reported results were 412.8 ft-lbs on the inertia rig (fourth) and 0.56 inches in the lag-bolt test (fourth). The test used a 6.0Ah Forge battery. Its shorter head makes this specific model a notable candidate for restricted access around engine bays or installed equipment; it does not establish that all Milwaukee wrenches are the smallest.

3. Makita GWT07 — strongest inertia-rig result

The GWT07 placed first on the inertia-torque rig at 502.3 ft-lbs, but third overall in the review. It also recorded 560 ft-lbs fastening torque and 810 ft-lbs nut-busting torque as specifications reported by the comparison. Its breakaway time was 4.08 seconds (fourth), and its lag-bolt result was 2.00 inches (seventh). Pro Tool Reviews points to its maximum impact rate of 2,900 IPM—the lowest in this test group—as one factor in its slower application results. It highlights four standard modes and three assist modes for control, and describes the model as expensive relative to the group.

Ryobi P262 — value pick, not an overall placement

Pro Tool Reviews selected the P262 as its best-for-the-money option. With a 4.0Ah High Performance Edge battery, it placed fifth in breakaway at 4.16 seconds, ninth on the inertia rig at 236.6 ft-lbs, and third in the lag-bolt test at 0.38 inches. The comparison listed the tool at $179 bare and $238 as a kit at the time of the review; those are historical comparison prices, not current offers. Its 7.19-inch head was the longest among the ten models.

How the ten tested models differed by test

These are the individual results reported in the 2025 comparison, not a composite score or a universal brand ranking. Breakaway times are in seconds; inertia-rig readings are in ft-lbs; lag-bolt results are in inches unless a result is reported as “SUNK.” The review lists head length in inches. The Craftsman did not complete its breakaway test. All figures and test placements below are from Pro Tool Reviews’ 2025 comparison.

Head lengths are the comparison’s measurements; check the exact model revision before buying. Mid-torque tools are only relatively compact, and the review notes that a compact-class wrench may suit very tight spaces better.

Notable alternatives among the other tested models

Bosch GDS18V-330C

The Bosch placed tenth in breakaway at 11.41 seconds and tenth on the inertia rig at 228.1 ft-lbs; its 3.13-inch lag-bolt result tied for tenth. Pro Tool Reviews cautions that its claimed torque is lower than most models in the group, but says it can handle passenger-vehicle wheel rotations as well as utility and concrete work. Customizable smart controls require a separately sold connectivity module, according to the review.

Hilti SIW 6-22

Hilti’s tested model recorded a 6.12-second breakaway (seventh), 275.7 ft-lbs on the inertia rig (seventh) and a 3.13-inch lag-bolt result (tied tenth). The review positions it for commercial, industrial and construction applications rather than as a primarily automotive choice. It describes an Adaptive Torque Module add-on for Hilti fastener workflows and cites a 20-year warranty; confirm regional warranty terms before relying on that duration.

Craftsman CMCF921

In the accessible test results, the CMCF921 broke five of eight fasteners before failing to complete the breakaway test. It recorded 233.6 ft-lbs on the inertia rig (tenth) and a 3.00-inch lag-bolt result (ninth). That is evidence about this model’s reported performance in this test, not a verdict on every Craftsman impact wrench.

Choose for the job, not just the biggest torque figure

  • Match the test to the task. Breakaway, fastening, inertia-rig and lag-bolt results measure different things. The Makita led the inertia rig, the DeWalt led breakaway, and other models placed better on the lag-bolt test.
  • Check access and overall size. Compare head length for confined work, but consider a compact-class wrench if a mid-torque tool will not fit. The tested configurations’ weights are not supplied here as a directly comparable bare-tool measure; battery choice affects handling.
  • Consider control features. Speed settings, assist modes, reverse behavior and connected controls can matter when a task calls for repeatable fastening or reduced risk of over-tightening. Confirm which features are built in and which require an add-on.
  • Include the battery platform in the cost. A bare tool is not the full cost of entry if you need batteries and a charger. The comparison used non-identical battery configurations, and its listed Ryobi prices are from the review period.
  • Match torque class and drive to the work. These results cover mid-torque models only. Use impact-rated sockets of the correct drive size; the comparison does not establish a particular socket set as best.

Do not mix mid-torque and high-torque rankings

A higher-torque model belongs to a different comparison. For example, Metabo HPT’s Canadian product page identifies the WR36DAQ4 as a 36V, 3/4-inch high-torque impact wrench—not the WR36DE tested above. The manufacturer lists 812 ft-lbs maximum tightening torque and 1,328 ft-lbs maximum nut-busting torque, and says it works with a MultiVolt battery or compatible AC adapter and has IP56 protection. Those are manufacturer-stated specifications for the separate model, not results from the ten-tool head-to-head. Confirm Canadian-market availability and specifications for your region on the official WR36DAQ4 product page.

Verdict

For the ten mid-torque models in this particular 2025 test, DeWalt’s DCF891 earned the overall win, Milwaukee’s 2962 was runner-up, and Makita’s GWT07 took third; Ryobi’s P262 was the value selection. For a purchase, treat those as a useful shortlist, then choose by the result that matches your work, available clearance, control requirements and battery platform—not by brand reputation or one torque number.
