HGTV cancelled Rehab Addict and removed the series from its platforms after video surfaced of host Nicole Curtis using a racial slur. Curtis apologized, while later claiming the footage had been stolen and manipulated—an account that has not been independently verified.
Why did HGTV pull Rehab Addict?
The video surfaced on February 11, 2026, the day new episodes were scheduled to air, according to Michigan outlet ClickOnDetroit. HGTV said it had recently learned of an offensive racial comment made during filming and removed the series from all HGTV platforms.
In a statement quoted by TVLine, the network said: “Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees — it does not align with the values of HGTV.”
What did Nicole Curtis say?
Her apology
Curtis apologized in a statement reported by the Los Angeles Times: “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.” In a later Instagram post reproduced by ClickOnDetroit, she wrote that she made no excuse, acknowledged the moment was wrong, and said it would not happen again.

Her account of the footage
Curtis later said the footage came from her personal equipment and claimed it was stolen, manipulated, edited, and sold to a tabloid. Those are her claims; the cited reports do not independently establish how the footage was obtained or altered.
Her later explanation of the words
In a March 2026 interview on The Breakfast Club, Curtis said she meant to say “fart digger” or “fart knocker.” The Los Angeles Times reported that the hosts challenged her explanation. This later account does not change HGTV’s stated reason for removing the series.

What was Rehab Addict about, and how long did it run?
The home-restoration series followed Curtis renovating houses and began on DIY Network in 2010 before moving to HGTV in 2014, according to TVLine. The season count is reported differently: the Los Angeles Times describes eight full seasons from 2010 to 2018, with a ninth season spread over two years; TVLine calls it a nine-season run. These descriptions should not be collapsed into a single uncontested count.

The Los Angeles Times reported in February 2026 that Rehab Addict was no longer available on HBO Max or Discovery+. That is a report of availability at that time, not confirmation of current listings; streaming catalogs can change, and current availability has not been verified.
