What does an acre look like in feet?
Area alone does not determine a parcelâs side lengths. If an acre were a perfect square, each side would be about 208.7 feet, calculated as the square root of 43,560. That is a visualization, not a required lot dimension. For instance, a rectangle measuring 100 feet by 435.6 feet also covers 43,560 square feet.

Real parcels can have different proportions or irregular boundaries. To check an area from dimensions, multiply length by width for a rectangle; for a non-rectangular parcel, rely on a survey or another appropriate area calculation rather than assuming it is square.
How does an acre compare with a square mile?

For current general use, use the international-foot equivalent: 4,046.8564224 square metres per acre, typically rounded to 4,047 square metres. NIST also lists 4,046.872609874 square metres using the U.S. survey foot, a legacy definition that it says should be avoided after December 31, 2022 except for historic and legacy applications.
