Here are five options drawn from those two guides, organized by use case. This is a combined shortlist, not a single head-to-head ranking. Check the exact model variant and included floorheads for your market before buying: bundles can differ, and a model name alone does not confirm that a soft-roller head is in the box.
How to choose a cordless vacuum for hardwood
On hard floors, the floorhead matters as much as the vacuum body. A soft roller or fluffy head is designed to collect fine dust and everyday debris across a hard surface. TechRadar prioritizes this style in its hardwood-floor guide, and Dyson describes the V15 Detect’s Fluffy Optic head as a hard-floor tool. These are design descriptions and editorial judgments, not a guarantee for every wood finish or debris type.
A bristled brushroll is not automatically unsuitable. RTINGS reports that the brushroll on its tested Shark Cordless Pet IX141 was gentle enough not to scratch hardwood. That finding applies to the tested model and does not establish that every bristled head is safe on every finish. If your floors are delicate, check the manufacturer’s guidance for your finish and test cautiously in an inconspicuous area.

For a useful comparison, look beyond pickup claims. Vacuum Wars describes evaluating standardized debris pickup, crevice cleaning and unsealed-floorhead suction, alongside roller design, illumination, edge cleaning, hair management, filtration, battery and handling. Its framework is useful context; it is not a direct comparison of all five picks below.
- Mostly hardwood, fine dust: favor a dedicated soft-roller or fluffy head, and verify it is included with the specific bundle.
- Hardwood plus rugs or carpet: look for a multi-surface head or a second head suited to carpets; check whether switching heads is required.
- Small home or frequent quick cleanups: lower weight and easy handling may matter more than a large bin.
- Long cleaning sessions: treat runtime as conditional. Maximum figures depend on mode, head, surface and other conditions; they are not a promise of whole-home runtime.
- Pets or long hair: consider hair tangling and bin-emptying design as well as pickup, since both can affect upkeep.

Dyson V15 Detect: a strong alternative with two head types
The V15 is the pick to consider if you want the combination Dyson describes: a Fluffy Optic head for hard floors and a Digital Motorbar for multiple floor types. RTINGS’ hardwood guide places it first among its picks, while also noting dust release during bin emptying. Before purchase, confirm which heads the exact package contains rather than assuming every V15 listing is identical.
Dyson UK describes the V15’s motor as rated at 240 air watts and states “up to 60 minutes run time.” Those are manufacturer specifications and claims for the UK product page, not an independent guarantee of runtime in every setup.

Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H: a mid-range alternative
RTINGS identifies the IZ862H as a mid-range option and reports strong hard-floor pickup from its twin-roller arrangement. Dyson UK states up to 60 minutes for the V15 Detect, while RTINGS reports up to 75 minutes in ECO mode in its own test context. The conditions and evidence type differ: the first is a manufacturer maximum claim; the second is an independent test observation. Neither establishes how long the vacuum will run on another setting, with another head or in a different home.
