The WORX Power Share Cube Vac (WX030L) is the best car vacuum overall in Better Homes & Gardens’ 2026 testing. It combined strong pickup of embedded pet hair and dirt with a flexible hose, useful tools, and enough battery for a typical interior clean. The ANKO is the better choice if you want unlimited runtime from a cord, while the Ridgid is strongest for pet hair and the Bissell is the easiest for quick touch-ups.
BHG tested 20 car vacuums in a laboratory, then used the leading models at home for up to six months. Evaluators considered pickup, setup, maneuverability, portability, noise, emptying, accessories, suction, comfort, and battery life where applicable. The results were updated February 3, 2026.

The WORX is the most balanced choice for routine car cleaning. BHG found it effective on embedded pet hair and dirt, and continued using it in both a car and a home six months after testing.

The main compromise is noise on high. Choose the low setting for light crumbs and reserve high for compacted dirt or hair.
2. ANKO Handheld Car Vacuum Cleaner: best corded car vacuum
ANKO is the practical pick when you do not want a battery to limit a long cleaning session. Its 16.4-foot cord can reach throughout a car while connected, giving it effectively unlimited runtime.
- Body performance: BHG found strong pickup from the vacuum body and a roomy bin.
- Handling: At 1.44 pounds, it is the lightest full-size option in this group apart from the Bissell.
- Tight areas: The small attachments fit beneath seats, although they have weaker suction than the main body.
ANKO makes the most sense for driveway or garage cleaning where an outlet is nearby. It is less convenient than a cordless model if you must carry a vacuum between locations.
3. DeWalt 20-Volt Bagless Cordless Handheld Vacuum: best attachments
DeWalt offers the broadest tool set for a car with varied surfaces. BHG’s package included a flexible hose, extension tube, crevice nozzle, gulper brush, round brush, floor nozzle, LED, belt hook, accessory holder and HEPA filter.

In testing, it picked up pet hair and hard-surface dirt effectively in one pass and handled cat litter well. Softer sand and dirt generally needed additional passes. Its 21-minute runtime is useful, but the 6.82-pound body is substantially heavier than the other picks.
There is also an ownership detail to check: the battery is sold separately. It becomes more attractive if you already use compatible DeWalt 20-volt tools; otherwise, include the cost and charging hardware when comparing it.
4. Ridgid Cordless Hand Vacuum: best car vacuum for pet hair
Ridgid is the strongest specialist choice for animal hair. BHG reported one-pass pickup of Cheerios from floor-mat crevices and strong hair removal from a back seat used by a large dog.
- Runtime: 22 minutes.
- Weight: 3.06 pounds.
- Limitation: The bulky body is awkward in very tight spaces.
- Battery terms: Battery and charger are sold separately.
It is a good fit for owners who regularly clean upholstery and mats after pets, provided they can work around its larger housing.

5. Bissell AeroSlim Lithium Cordless Handheld Vacuum: best for quick touch-ups
The 1.37-pound AeroSlim is the easiest model to grab for a small spill, a scattering of sand or a few rocks after a trip. Its 12-minute battery is enough for short maintenance sessions, and the two-in-one crevice tool and dusting brush cover basic detailing.
Its compactness comes with clear limits. The small bin needs frequent emptying, the cylindrical body can roll during storage, and BHG found the suction insufficient for deep cleaning. Treat it as a maintenance vacuum rather than a replacement for a stronger model.

Decide between corded and cordless power
A corded vacuum avoids battery depletion and generally maintains suction for as long as you have access to power. Cleaning expert Sarah McAllister of GoCleanCo says she generally prefers corded vacuums for “the best, longest lasting suction power.” Cordless models are easier to carry and store, and, as she also puts it, “a cordless vacuum is better than no vacuum!”
Prioritize reach before headline suction numbers
Cars hide debris in seat-console gaps, under seats, around rails and inside vents. McAllister identifies maneuverability as a priority because of the many tight spaces where crumbs collect. A crevice tool is essential; a flexible hose and detail brush make vents, mats and under-seat areas easier to clean than a rigid body alone.

Match pickup to your actual mess
Pet hair, sand, rocks, crumbs and ordinary dirt demand different cleaning ability. BHG reports 27.5 CFM for the WORX and 46 CFM for the DeWalt, where CFM means cubic feet per minute, but one- or two-pass pickup is more meaningful in daily use than airflow alone. If your main problem is animal hair, favor the Ridgid or WORX; for occasional grit, the Bissell may be enough.
Balance weight and bin size
The five tested models range from 1.37 pounds to 6.82 pounds. Lighter units are less tiring for upholstery and quick jobs, while heavier designs can provide more equipment or capacity. The WORX bin holds 6 ounces; the DeWalt bin holds about 23 ounces. A larger bin reduces interruptions, but all five completed BHG’s individual cleaning session without a pause to empty.
Protect leather and delicate trim
Use the attachment intended for each material. Leather can scratch more readily than fabric, so check the vehicle and vacuum manufacturers’ instructions before using stiff bristles or aggressive tools on seats, dashboards or trim.
