A Samsung washer can light up yet refuse to run when its door or lid interlock has not confirmed closure, Child Lock is active, the cycle is paused or delayed, or a water/drain condition has triggered a protective stop. Work through the checks below in order. If the washer still will not start, Samsung’s guidance is to contact support with the complete model number and any information code.
Start with the symptom you can see

Work through these checks in order

Confirm power and the selected cycle
Verify that the power cord is fully connected and that the outlet is supplying power. Make sure the washer is not paused, in standby or sleep mode, or set to Delay Start. Select the intended cycle again and use the model’s Start/Pause control; Samsung’s manuals list these states among causes of a “does not start” condition.

Close the door or lid firmly
Remove clothing or debris that may be caught around the opening, then close the door or lid until it latches. A powered washer will not proceed unless its safety interlock confirms closure. Do not force a locked door or attempt to bypass the interlock.

Turn off Child Lock
Child Lock can make a washer appear powered while preventing Start-related controls from responding. Samsung says the feature disables control-panel buttons except for a few functions such as Power. The buttons or button combination used to disable it vary by model, so use the labels on your panel or the exact owner’s manual for your full model number. A lock symbol or “CL” indication may identify the feature, but the display varies by model.

Check for water, a locked door, or an information code
Look for standing water in the drum and read the complete display. Residual water can keep the door locked, while a drain-related or other information code can stop the cycle. Use the troubleshooting section for that model to correct the condition. If the code returns after the prescribed check, treat it as an unresolved fault rather than repeatedly starting the machine.

Retry once after a reset
After correcting the identified condition, switch the washer off and back on. Select the cycle again and press Start/Pause as the model requires. A reset can clear a temporary control state, but it cannot repair a failed lock, drain system, or other component.

Why the door or lid interlock matters
The interlock is a safety switch that tells the control system the opening is closed before tumbling, spinning, or filling can proceed. Power and a working display therefore do not prove that the washer is ready to run. If the latch does not engage, the lock indicator behaves abnormally, or the washer stops as soon as locking should occur, the lock path becomes a stronger suspect than the Start button itself.
When a replacement lock may be appropriate
A door-lock or lid-lock assembly should be considered only when the symptoms support that diagnosis and the exact model number confirms compatibility. Samsung does not use one universal part across all washer models or regions. Disconnect power before any component inspection, and follow the model service documentation; do not defeat the interlock.

When the problem points to draining
Water left inside can prevent unlocking and can block a new cycle. Check the model’s instructions for the drain hose, pump filter, and displayed code. Cleaning a filter is a user-level step only when the manual permits it and you can safely contain hot or contaminated water. A drain-pump replacement or electrical testing is not a general first step: it is appropriate only when standing water or a drain code supports that path.
What not to do
- Do not force open a locked door or lid.
- Do not bypass, short, or defeat the safety interlock.
- Do not open electrical panels while the washer is connected to power.
- Do not buy a lock, pump, or control part without matching the complete model number and revision.
- Do not assume a reset has fixed the problem if the same code or no-start behavior returns.
When to stop troubleshooting and call Samsung
Contact Samsung Support or an appropriately qualified appliance technician when the washer still will not start after the power, cycle-state, closure, Child Lock, code, and single-reset checks. Have the full model number, serial information if requested, and the exact information code or observed sequence (for example, “locks, then stops”) ready. Persistent failure can require component testing that is not safe to perform without the model’s service instructions and suitable electrical skills.
