Samsung unveiled its 2024 Bespoke AI home-appliance lineup on April 3, 2024, at launch events in Seoul, Paris and New York City. The products and features varied by market; Seoul’s presentation included 14 new products, not a single global catalog. The announcements ranged from refrigerators and laundry equipment to robot cleaners and connected cooking appliances, with SmartThings serving as the connective layer.

What Samsung announced

“Welcome to BESPOKE AI” was a product-line launch and ecosystem pitch. Samsung presented appliances that combine conventional functions with varying mixes of sensors, cameras, displays, voice control and connected-device features. Its US announcement says only certain refrigerator services and Bixby features used deep-learning models; other functions are sensor adjustments, routines, remote controls or screen-based interfaces. Calling the whole range AI-powered therefore does not mean every appliance uses the same kind of AI.

The product mix differed across Seoul, Paris and New York City, so an appliance shown at the event should not be assumed to have launched in every country. Names also vary by market and model. Check the precise model number and local feature list before relying on a particular capability. Samsung’s global launch announcement and its US announcement describe the launch and its regional differences.

Refrigerator: food recognition, recipes and a control screen

The Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+ combines a large front display with SmartThings controls, recipes, media and home functions. Samsung’s 2024 US launch material said AI Vision Inside could recognize 33 fresh-food items as they entered or left the refrigerator. Internal cameras support that feature, while Tap View can mirror a compatible smartphone on the display.

Food recognition is not a complete inventory system: Samsung describes recognition of select fresh foods, and packaged, obscured, prepared or unfamiliar items may not be identified reliably. Expiration reminders also depend on correct identification and date information; they are not a food-safety guarantee. Current capabilities and supported services vary by model, so consult the current US Bespoke overview and the local product listing rather than assuming the 2024 launch count applies to every model now sold.

Laundry: the all-in-one Bespoke AI Laundry Combo

The Laundry Combo washes and dries clothes in one appliance, avoiding the transfer between machines and taking less floor space than a separate pair. Samsung’s US model WD53DBA900HZA1 is a 5.3-cubic-foot ventless washer-dryer with a 7-inch AI Home display. AI Opti Wash & Dry uses load and fabric sensing to adjust aspects of washing and drying, including water, detergent and cycle behavior, according to Samsung.

The trade-off is throughput: one drum cannot wash a second load while it is drying the first. That can matter more than connected controls in a busy household. Ventless and vented versions have different installation needs, so confirm the exact model’s dimensions, electrical and water connections, and clearance requirements. Capacity, drying performance, cycle duration, service access and repair costs deserve more weight than the AI label; no independent performance result is established here.

Samsung’s product page for this US model is the place to verify current stock, installation details and price: WD53DBA900HZA1 product page. Its listed price and delivery status can change.

Robot cleaning: Jet Bot Combo AI

The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI combines vacuuming and mopping with object recognition intended to identify obstacles such as people, pets, cables and rugs. AI Floor Detect is designed to distinguish carpet from hard flooring and trigger model-dependent responses, such as lifting the mop or returning to the station. The Clean Station Steam+ handles tasks including dust emptying, water management and mop washing.

Samsung 5.3 cu ft. Bespoke AI Laundry Vented Combo™ All-in-One Ultra Capacity Washer and Electric Dryer with AI Home, Dark Steel, WD90F53AVSUS
  • ALL-IN-ONE WASHER + DRYER: AI Laundry Combo with Vented Drying Advantage System is a vented all-in-one washer and dryer that washes and dries clothes completely in one machine without transferring loads.
  • ULTRA CAPACITY WITH SUPER SPEED: This fast 5.3 cu. ft ultra capacity combo washer + dryer delivers powerful cleaning performance in up to 68 minutes.*
  • AI OPTI WASH & DRY: AI Opti Wash & Dry detects soil level and fabrics adjusting settings as needed during the cycle to deliver a better wash & dry.
  • SIMPLE SWAP DESIGN: Swap your current washer & electric dryer for the Bespoke AI Laundry Vented Combo. Install requires a 240V outlet, water line and a drain hose.
  • FLEX AUTO DISPENSE SYSTEM: Automatically dispense up to 47 loads of detergent or flex one compartment to dispense up to 34 loads of softener and 25 loads of detergent.

Samsung claimed a 99.99% reduction in harmful bacteria on the mop surface under its stated test conditions. That is not evidence that the robot sterilizes an entire floor or removes household pathogens. Object recognition may reduce collisions and tangles but cannot guarantee that cables, small objects, liquids or pet accidents will be avoided. Homes with floor clutter still need preparation and supervision. See Samsung’s global launch details and its current US Bespoke category for model-specific features.

Cooking: connected controls and assistance

The announced kitchen range included the Anyplace Induction Cooktop, Bespoke ovens and a slide-in range. On applicable models, AI Pro Cooking and AI Cook Manager add camera or sensor-supported cooking functions. Samsung described AI Cook Manager as detecting boiling liquid and adjusting settings to help prevent spillovers; “help prevent” is not a promise that spills cannot happen. Supported appliances can also send notifications to other Samsung devices.

Samsung said the Anyplace cooktop’s sheet-coil heating mechanism was intended to allow more flexible pan placement. That is a company description, not independently verified comparative performance. Before a kitchen remodel or replacement, check the precise cooktop dimensions, electrical requirements, counter cutout and compatible cookware. Samsung’s CES 2024 appliance overview discusses these cooking features.

How SmartThings connects the appliances

On compatible products, an AI Home display can function as an appliance control panel as well as a screen for recipes, calls or media. Samsung demonstrated controlling an air conditioner from an induction range and starting a robot vacuum from a laundry appliance. Other ecosystem features include 3D Map View, Mobile Smart Connect quick controls near registered appliances, and Calm Onboarding, which can register eligible Samsung.com purchases to SmartThings when the same Samsung account is used.

These are conditional conveniences, not universal interoperability. Cross-device actions require compatible products, a Samsung account, network access and services supported in the user’s region. “Works with SmartThings” does not by itself establish Matter, Google Home or Amazon Alexa compatibility. Some local appliance controls may still work during a network outage, but remote monitoring and routines can be unavailable. Screens and software functions can also change through updates. Samsung describes its connected-home platform at SmartThings US.

Energy claims, privacy and support

Energy use

Samsung’s AI Energy Mode monitors energy use and, on supported appliances, may adjust operation or shift certain tasks away from peak periods. Its current US Bespoke page claims up to 10% lower refrigerator energy use with AI Energy Mode. “Up to” is a maximum claim, not a household guarantee: results depend on model, settings, usage, climate, local electricity rates and whether the feature is enabled. Scheduling laundry for off-peak hours may reduce a bill under some tariffs without reducing the machine’s total energy consumption.

Cameras, accounts and security

Some refrigerators and robot cleaners use cameras; voice and connected features may involve microphones, accounts or network services. Before buying, check which sensors the exact model has, what data is processed locally or sent to services, available camera and voice controls, and what functions remain without Wi-Fi. Samsung highlighted Knox and said certain refrigerator and Jet Bot products received UL Solutions Diamond-level IoT security verification. That verification is not a guarantee against vulnerabilities.

Samsung’s current US Bespoke page advertises seven years of software innovations for flagship products. Do not apply that wording to every appliance from the 2024 lineup: confirm whether the specific model is covered and what the update commitment includes. The same page is the source for its current AI Energy Mode and software-support claims: Bespoke AI overview.

Who is most likely to benefit?

  • Existing SmartThings households: Connected controls and routines may be more useful when compatible Samsung devices are already in the home.
  • Small laundry rooms: The all-in-one format saves space and removes the load transfer, provided its cycle throughput suits the household.
  • Food-inventory enthusiasts: A camera, recipes and reminders may be useful if the household is willing to check recognition and maintain the inventory.
  • Homes with mixed flooring: Automated carpet detection and mop handling could reduce manual intervention, but do not remove the need to clear hazards and inspect floors.
  • Privacy-first or offline buyers: A simpler appliance may be a better fit if cameras, accounts, Wi-Fi or software dependence are unwelcome.
  • High-volume laundry households: Separate washer and dryer machines may offer better simultaneous throughput, at the cost of more floor space.

What to verify before choosing a model

  1. Availability and features: Confirm the country-specific model number, included functions and current inventory; launch demonstrations were not a universal catalog.
  2. Physical installation: Measure appliance and doorway clearance, and verify ventilation, electrical, water and built-in requirements for the exact model.
  3. Core performance: Compare cooling, cleaning, drying, noise and operating costs before paying extra for screens or automation.
  4. Connectivity and privacy: Check account, app, Wi-Fi, camera and microphone requirements, plus the controls and update policy.
  5. Maintenance and service: Consider filters, mop pads, water tanks, detergent systems, replacement parts and local authorized repair availability.
  6. Total value: Compare current model pricing and energy use with simpler appliances or separate machines; promotions and delivery availability change.

Samsung’s 2024 lineup is most distinctive as a coordinated SmartThings appliance system. The practical decision is whether a specific model’s automation solves a real household problem—and whether that benefit outweighs its installation, connectivity, maintenance and privacy trade-offs.
