Quick answer: The Ring Battery Doorbell 4K Pro is the best all-round choice if you want battery flexibility, 4K video, removable batteries and dual-band Wi-Fi. Choose the Wired Doorbell 4K Pro for the best conventional wired image quality, the Battery Doorbell 2K for the lowest-cost current battery option, or the Peephole Cam 2K for a renter-friendly apartment installation.

This guide covers the U.S. lineup and prices checked August 16, 2026. Ring discounts and product names can change, so confirm the exact generation and price on the linked purchase page before ordering. The most important decision is power: battery models avoid doorbell wiring but need charging; wired models avoid routine charging but depend on suitable wiring, a transformer and sometimes an existing chime. A Ring Protect plan is generally needed if you want to review missed events later.

The nine best Ring doorbells

1. Ring Battery Doorbell 4K Pro: best overall

The Battery Doorbell 4K Pro is the strongest choice for most buyers who want installation flexibility without giving up top-end resolution. It has 4K Head-to-Toe HDR video, up to 10x Enhanced Zoom, 3D Motion Detection, a removable rechargeable battery and dual-band Wi-Fi. It can also be hardwired to an existing low-voltage doorbell system.

#1 Best Overall
Ring Battery Doorbell 2K (newest model) Retinal 2K with wide-angle video, up to 6x Enhanced Zoom, Two-Way Talk, and Built-In Battery, Matte Mocha
  • Capture it all with Retinal 2K video — From wide views to tighter focus, it’s easy to see your home or business in crisp clarity with Retinal 2K.
  • Zoom in up to 6x — Catch details at a distance, inspect faces, and more with up to 6x Enhanced Zoom.
  • Connect to who’s there — See, hear, and speak in real time with Live View and Two-Way Talk.
  • Get real-time alerts — Receive real-time notifications on your phone when motion is detected.
  • Easily recharge — Simply insert the included removal tool to detach your doorbell from the wall, then recharge the built-in battery via USB-C. (Cable not included.)

Choose it if: you want the best wireless Ring option, have a busy entrance, or need 5GHz Wi-Fi support. Skip it if: you want the cheapest doorbell or object to paying for cloud recording.

Ring lists it at $249.99. Battery life varies with traffic, live viewing, Wi-Fi strength, cold weather, resolution and motion settings, so do not treat any fixed runtime as guaranteed. Ring identifies this model as compatible with an in-home chime when hardwired. Specifications and current price.

2. Ring Wired Doorbell 4K Pro: best wired model for image quality

If your home already has suitable doorbell wiring, the Wired Doorbell 4K Pro removes battery charging from the ownership equation while retaining the appeal of 4K video. It is a better fit than a battery model for a high-traffic entrance where frequent motion could drain a battery.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: you own the property, have verified wiring and want a premium wired installation. Skip it if: you rent or cannot confirm the transformer and chime requirements.

Ring lists the model at $249.99, with a displayed price of $199.99 at the time checked. Promotional pricing is temporary. Check Ring’s catalog.

3. Ring Wired Doorbell 4K Elite: best for PoE installations

The 4K Elite is aimed at new construction, larger properties and professionally designed networks. It uses Power over Ethernet, carrying power and network data through an Ethernet cable. That can provide a clean, purpose-built installation, but it is not a drop-in replacement for an ordinary two-wire doorbell.

Choose it if: your property already has PoE infrastructure or you are planning structured cabling. Skip it if: you simply need to replace a standard low-voltage doorbell.

Ring lists it at $499.99, with a displayed price of $349.99 when checked. Professional installation may be appropriate; Ring’s catalog says installation starts at $129.99 per device, with wiring changes billed separately. See the current catalog.

4. Ring Battery Doorbell 2K Plus: best midrange battery option

The 2K Plus balances image quality, convenience and price. Its removable rechargeable battery is easier to replace than the built-in battery in the standard 2K model. It provides 2K Head-to-Toe HDR video and a 140-degree horizontal and vertical field of view.

Rank #2
Ring Battery Doorbell 2K (newest model) Retinal 2K with wide-angle video, up to 6x Enhanced Zoom, Two-Way Talk, and Built-In Battery, Speckled Gray

It uses 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, can be hardwired and can operate with an indoor chime when connected to an existing doorbell system. Choose it if you want a removable battery without paying for the 4K Pro. Skip it if the door has unreliable 2.4GHz coverage or you specifically want 4K.

The list price is $179.99; the displayed price was $119.99 on August 16, 2026. Check current pricing.

5. Ring Battery Doorbell 2K: best affordable current battery model

At a listed $99.99, the Battery Doorbell 2K is the straightforward budget recommendation. It has 2K Head-to-Toe video and a 140-degree horizontal and vertical view, but its rechargeable battery is built in rather than removable.

Choose it if: you want a current battery Ring at the lowest listed price. Skip it if: you want a spare battery ready to swap, 5GHz Wi-Fi or the best low-light performance available in the range.

It uses 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. As with every battery doorbell, heavy foot traffic, weak Wi-Fi and cold weather can increase charging frequency. See Ring’s comparison page.

6. Ring Wired Doorbell 2K: best wired value

The Wired Doorbell 2K is the value choice for a home with existing compatible wiring. Continuous power is more convenient than periodically charging a battery, and 2K video is a meaningful step above older entry-level wired models.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: you want a low-cost wired installation and can verify the electrical requirements. Skip it if: you need battery operation, no-drill mounting or PoE.

Ring announced a second-generation wired model at $79.99. Because Ring’s catalog may display it under a shorter “Wired Doorbell” name, verify the exact current product page before buying. Read the announcement.

7. Ring Wired Doorbell Plus, 2nd Gen: best balanced traditional wired model

The Wired Doorbell Plus is a sensible middle ground for homeowners who want continuous power, dual-band connectivity and color night vision without moving to a specialist PoE installation.

Rank #3
Ring Battery Doorbell 2K (newest model), Retinal 2K with wide-angle video, up to 6x Enhanced Zoom, Two-Way Talk, and Built-In Battery, Speckled White

Ring’s technical specifications call for 16 or 24VAC, 10–40VA, with 30–40VA recommended for optimal performance. The page also lists 50/60Hz and 24VDC, 12W compatibility, plus dual-band Wi-Fi 6.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: you can verify the transformer and want 5GHz support. Skip it if: you are relying only on the fact that doorbell wires are physically present. Review Ring’s technical specifications.

8. Ring Video Doorbell Wired: best low-cost wired entry point

The Video Doorbell Wired is the compact, wired-only entry option for buyers who primarily want live alerts, Live View and two-way talk at a lower device cost. It belongs in a separate category from the newer 2K model: do not assume the two have identical video or motion features.

Choose it if: price and continuous power matter more than resolution. Skip it if: you want 2K or 4K detail, battery installation or the newest feature set. Confirm current availability and specifications on Ring’s catalog page.

9. Ring Peephole Cam 2K: best apartment and renter alternative

The Peephole Cam 2K is not a conventional doorbell, but it may be the best solution for an apartment, condo or rental door with a compatible peephole. Ring describes it as battery-powered and no-drill, making removal easier when you move.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: you cannot modify the building’s wiring and your door has a compatible peephole. Skip it if: the door lacks a suitable peephole or building rules prohibit installation. Its listed price is $99.99. Check compatibility and current details.

Battery-powered or wired: which should you buy?

“Wireless” describes the power arrangement, not the network. Battery models communicate over Wi-Fi and still need a reliable connection. They do not require doorbell wiring, making them useful for renters, older homes and locations where running cable would be disruptive.

Wired models receive continuous power from existing low-voltage wiring, a suitable plug-in adapter or, for the Elite, Ethernet. They avoid routine charging but may require transformer upgrades, a compatible mechanical or digital chime, and professional installation.

  • Choose battery for easier installation, rental properties and doors without usable wiring.
  • Choose wired for busy entrances, difficult-to-reach mounting locations and households that do not want battery maintenance.
  • Choose PoE Elite only when Ethernet infrastructure or a planned new installation justifies it.

Ring Protect: the cost many buyers overlook

Ring doorbells can generally provide real-time notifications, Live View and two-way talk without a subscription. However, without Ring Protect you generally cannot review missed events, save or share recorded video, or use the full set of recording and advanced-intelligence features. In practical terms, a buyer who wants to investigate what happened while away will usually need a plan.

Rank #4
Ring Battery Doorbell 2K Plus (newest model), Retinal 2K with wide-angle video, up to 6x Enhanced Zoom, Night Vision, and Quick Release Battery Pack, Nickel Silver
  • True color, even in low light — Stay in color longer with Night Vision, and automatically switch to crisp black and white in total darkness.
  • Connect to who’s there — See, hear, and speak in real time with improved quality using Live View and Two-Way Talk.
  • Know the moment something moves — Get instant mobile alerts when your camera senses activity with Motion Detection.
Plan Price Coverage
Ring Solo $4.99/month or $49.99/year One home doorbell or camera
Ring Multi $9.99/month or $99.99/year All devices at one location
Ring Pro $19.99/month or $199.99/year All devices plus advanced intelligence and professional-monitoring features
Virtual Security Guard $99/month Separate live-monitoring option

Ring says Protect plans provide up to 180 days of video history and offers a 30-day trial after setup unless the location already has a qualifying subscription. Features and availability can vary by country and may depend on app updates. See the current Ring Protect plans.

First-year cost examples

Using annual Ring Solo pricing and the listed hardware prices:

  • Battery Doorbell 2K: $99.99 + $49.99 = $149.98 before tax.
  • Battery Doorbell 2K Plus at its $179.99 list price: $179.99 + $49.99 = $229.98 before tax.
  • Battery Doorbell 4K Pro: $249.99 + $49.99 = $299.98 before tax.

These are planning examples, not guaranteed checkout totals. A household with several Ring devices may find Multi cheaper than separate Solo plans.

Compatibility checklist before ordering

  1. Check power. For a wired model, identify the transformer’s voltage and VA rating. Physical doorbell wire does not prove that the transformer is adequate.
  2. Check the chime. Confirm whether you have a mechanical or digital indoor chime and review the exact model’s compatibility documentation. Do not assume battery operation will activate an existing chime; the battery models identified by Ring support an in-home chime when hardwired.
  3. Check Wi-Fi at the door. Test the actual mounting location, not the area beside the router. The 4K Pro and Wired Doorbell Plus support dual-band Wi-Fi; the listed 2K and 2K Plus battery models use 2.4GHz.
  4. Check the mounting position. Head-to-Toe framing is useful only when the camera is aimed correctly. Consider porch lighting, visitor distance, glare and a busy street.
  5. Check battery access. A high or difficult-to-reach door may justify a removable spare battery, hardwiring or a supported solar accessory.
  6. Check permissions. Renters should obtain landlord or building approval. Apartment residents should confirm that a peephole installation is allowed.
  7. Check PoE requirements. The Elite needs Ethernet infrastructure and is a different installation category from ordinary low-voltage doorbell wiring.

Common failure points

Insufficient transformer power

Symptoms can include repeated disconnections, reboots, an inactive indoor chime or insufficient-power warnings. Check voltage and VA, confirm the exact model’s requirements and use a qualified electrician when wiring is inaccessible or unsafe.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Weak Wi-Fi

High resolution cannot compensate for an unreliable signal. A 4K doorbell with poor connectivity may be less useful than a lower-resolution model that consistently delivers alerts.

Battery drain

Motion from pedestrians and vehicles, frequent Live View sessions, cold weather, night activity and poor Wi-Fi can all increase consumption. A spare battery or supported solar accessory may help where sunlight and camera placement permit. Ring announced a $49.99 Solar Charger and $59.99 Solar Panel for supported 2026 battery models, but shaded entrances are poor candidates.

Expecting 24/7 recording

Do not assume every Ring doorbell continuously records. Ring’s plans page describes 24/7 Continuous Recording as an add-on available only on eligible cameras, with model-specific treatment for Elite cameras. Confirm support for event recording, Extended Live View or continuous recording for the exact device. Ring doorbells should not be treated as local-recording cameras unless the product documentation explicitly says so.

2K versus 4K

4K models—Battery Doorbell 4K Pro, Wired Doorbell 4K Pro and Wired Doorbell 4K Elite—can provide more detail and cropping flexibility than the 2K models. But resolution is only one part of identification. Night lighting, motion blur, compression, visitor distance, camera angle and field of view can matter just as much. Pay extra for 4K when you need detail at a longer distance or want premium features such as 3D Motion Detection and dual-band Wi-Fi; choose 2K when price, bandwidth or overall value matters more.
