There are eight useful tea infuser options here, but they were not all tested in the same review: Reviewed reports tests of six products, while the OXO and Whittard models are supported by product-page details only. Choose by leaf size, vessel fit and cleanup—not by treating the eight as a single test ranking.
How to choose a tea infuser
Match the infuser to the leaves and the vessel you actually use. Whole leaves benefit from room to expand, while small particles need finer filtration. A basket also needs to rest securely across the mug or teapot opening; dimensions and support matter as much as mesh style. Tealefy’s selection guide recommends micro-fine mesh for rooibos and broken leaves: Tealefy’s loose-leaf infuser guide.
- Leaf room: A roomy basket is a practical all-purpose choice for whole leaves. A compact tea ball takes less space but gives leaves less room to expand. This is a format comparison, not a guarantee of brewing results.
- Filtration: Choose finer mesh for rooibos and other fine particles; larger openings may let small pieces escape.
- Fit and stability: Compare the infuser’s dimensions and supports with the opening of your mug or teapot.
- Removal and cleanup: Consider whether it has a drip tray, how easily leaves empty out, and what care the maker recommends.
Eight tea infusers: evidence and trade-offs
Reviewed’s article, “6 Best Tea Infusers of 2026,” was updated April 8, 2025, and covers six products. Its observations below are reported test findings, not results from a standardized head-to-head score across all eight models. OXO and Whittard product details come from their own pages, not Reviewed’s tests.
| Infuser | Format and useful detail | Reported limitation or care |
|---|---|---|
| Fred & Friends Manatea Tea Infuser | Silicone body hooks onto a mug rim. Reviewed named it its best overall pick and reported good grip and easy cleaning. | Reviewed says leaves can take some help to remove from the narrow body. |
| Yoassi Extra Fine 18/8 Stainless Steel Tea Infuser | Fine stainless-steel infuser for larger mugs; includes a dish that can rest the wet infuser. | Reviewed reports it fit its 16-ounce test mug and that the metal arms became hot to the touch. That fit observation applies to Reviewed’s test mug, not every 16-ounce vessel. |
| HIC Snap Ball Tea Infuser | Compact hinged ball, easy to empty and store according to Reviewed. | Reviewed observed slight mesh denting after two test uses. |
| OXO Brew Twisting Tea Ball | Compact ball with a twisting closure. | In Reviewed’s tests, leaves escaped and the twisting mechanism could trap leaves during cleaning. |
| Chefast Tea Infuser Set | Reviewed notes that the set includes a scoop and clip. | Reviewed reported slower steeping in its test and concerns about the chain and lid fit. |
| FORLIFE Brew-in-Mug Extra-fine Tea Infuser with Lid | Fine mug infuser with a drip dish; Reviewed noted it contained leaves. | In Reviewed’s tests, its single-arm support could fall into the water. |
| OXO Tea Infuser Basket | Manufacturer describes a large-capacity stainless basket with etched holes, silicone touchpoints and a lid that doubles as a drip tray. | OXO lists it as dishwasher safe. The manufacturer page showed $16.99 when accessed October 8, 2026; current price and availability may differ. OXO product page. |
| Whittard Mug Infuser | Retailer documents a fine stainless-steel basket, silicone handles and a lid that becomes a drip tray. | Whittard recommends hand washing. The retailer page showed $15.95 USD when accessed October 8, 2026; current price and availability may differ. Whittard product page. |
Which format suits your tea and routine?
For whole-leaf tea: choose a roomy basket
A basket generally leaves more space for whole leaves than a compact ball. If you brew in a mug, check that the basket rests securely across its rim and that it is deep enough for the amount of water you use. OXO and Whittard both document mug baskets with lids that double as drip trays; their care instructions differ.

For rooibos or broken leaves: prioritize fine mesh
Fine particles call for finer filtration. Tealefy recommends micro-fine mesh for rooibos and broken leaves. The Yoassi and FORLIFE options are described as fine or extra-fine in the Reviewed roundup; the OXO and Whittard baskets have their own product-page descriptions. Those labels alone do not establish that all four filter equally well.
For travel or compact storage: consider a tea ball
A ball is small and simple to store, but offers less expansion room than a basket. Among the reviewed balls, the HIC Snap Ball was described as easy to empty and store, while Reviewed noted slight mesh denting after two uses. Its findings on the OXO twisting ball included escaped leaves and leaves caught during cleaning.
Rank #2

Tea steeper is not only for loose tea leaves but also a spice filter, infusing spices when cooking. It's very applilicable!
- Drip Tray:The tea steeper comes with a mini drip tray for it to rest on. This largely avoids the mess after removing the loose tea steeper. Perfect for home, office, or on-the-go tea lovers.
- Perfect Gifts: The tea infusers for loose tea are a must-have for tea lovers. Rather than a tea bag, the tea infuser offers the loose tea leaves enough room to diffuse into every nook and cranny of your mug and get fully infused, and the fragrance emanates as the tea leaves stretch out. At the same time, they are perfect gifts for various holidays and leisure occasions. Choose House Again tea infuser, flavorful tea at your fingertips!
For a specific mug: check support and handling
Hook, arm and rim-support designs behave differently from baskets that rest across the opening. Reviewed found that the Yoassi fit its 16-ounce test mug, while its metal arms got hot; its test also found the FORLIFE’s single arm could fall into the water. These are useful warnings to check stability and safe handling on your own vessel, not universal fit claims.
Filling, removing and cleaning an infuser
- How full should it be? Avoid packing leaves tightly into a small infuser; select a larger basket if the leaves need more room. The sources here do not establish a universal fill percentage, so follow the tea’s brewing directions and leave room for expansion.
- How to avoid drips: If the infuser has a lid, check whether the maker says it doubles as a drip tray. Set the removed infuser on that tray or another suitable dish.
- How to clean fine mesh: Empty the leaves promptly, then rinse the mesh thoroughly so small particles do not remain lodged in it. Follow the maker’s care directions: OXO lists its basket as dishwasher safe, while Whittard recommends hand washing.
- When leaves stick: Narrow-bodied or twisting designs may need extra rinsing or help emptying, as Reviewed observed with the Manatea and OXO twisting ball.
What “tested and reviewed” means for these eight
The available Reviewed roundup names six products and reports product-specific test observations. The OXO Tea Infuser Basket and Whittard Mug Infuser are additional options with manufacturer or retailer product-page evidence, not documented participants in those tests. No common scoring method or complete eight-product test set is established by these sources, so the table presents the evidence by product rather than claiming an overall winner across all eight.
