3. Replant suitable crops as space opens
When a crop finishes, remove it if needed and consider planting a suitable warm-season vegetable in the open space. This can keep a bed in production, but the right crop and planting window depend on your location, local climate, and remaining growing season. There is no reliable one-size-fits-all answer to “What can I plant in June for a summer harvest?”

5. Scout for pests and disease before treating
Look over plants for insect activity, damaged leaves, or other signs of disease. Identify the problem before choosing a response; an incorrect diagnosis can lead to an ineffective or unnecessary treatment. If you are unsure what you are seeing, contact your county agent or cooperative extension office for identification help.

Row cover can help exclude some pests, but it must be removed from flowering crops when pollinators need access. Whether it is suitable depends on the crop and its flowering stage. For plum, peach, apple, and pear trees, Maryland Extension recommends hand-thinning immature fruit, leaving about the width of one fruit between those that remain. This is regional extension guidance, not a universal spacing rule for every tree, cultivar, or growing area. Consult local extension advice if you are unsure whether or how to thin your trees.
