The right router circle jig is the one that fits your exact router and base, reaches the circle diameter you need, and supports the shape you want to cut. The five options below are a use-case shortlist, not an independently tested ranking: compare published specifications and confirm fit before buying.

Which router jig to cut circles should you choose?

Start with the router’s model number and the base you plan to mount—fixed or plunge. Then check the jig’s documented mounting pattern and diameter range. If the project needs an ellipse or sweeping arc rather than a circle, choose a system that explicitly supports those shapes.

  • For a mid-size or large router: consider Rockler’s Circle Cutting Jig for Routers, listed for 10–52-inch circles.
  • For a compact router or smaller circles: consider Rockler’s Compact Router jig, listed for 6–36-inch circles.
  • For circles plus ellipses or arcs: consider Rockler’s Ellipse/Circle jig; its page lists circles up to 52 inches in diameter.
  • For a kit with a broad stated range: Milescraft’s catalog describes 1-1/2–52-inch cutting, but verify the current kit and range in its manual.
  • For a plywood-and-laminate jig: Avanti lists supported router models, but the product information reviewed does not establish a diameter range.

These are different product paths, not claims that one jig cuts more accurately or lasts longer than another.

Five router circle jigs to compare

1. Rockler Circle Cutting Jig for Routers (item 40982)

Rockler lists a 10–52-inch circle range for this jig, which is intended for mid-size and large routers. Its sliding center pivot pin has two included styles. Rockler’s pre-drilled model list names selected Bosch, DeWalt, Hitachi, Makita and Porter-Cable routers. The page specifically says it is not pre-drilled for the Bosch Plunge Base. Rockler says users can drill mounting holes for a custom fit, but that is an adaptation—not confirmation that every router and base is compatible. Check the product’s model and base compatibility.

2. Rockler Circle Cutting Jig for Compact Routers (item 48871)

For compact routers, Rockler lists a 6–36-inch circle range and describes a 1/4-inch phenolic core, adjustable pivot pin and two pivot-pin styles. Its pre-drilled list includes the Bosch Colt PR20EVSPK, DeWalt DWP611PK, Porter-Cable 450PK and Bosch 1617 series fixed base. The retailer says the jig can be drilled for other routers; verify the exact model, base and safe mounting before relying on a custom fit. Check the compact jig’s published fit details.

3. Rockler Ellipse/Circle Cutting Jig for Routers (item 27712)

This is the option in this shortlist that explicitly adds ellipse and sweeping-arc cutting to circles. Rockler describes a sliding dovetail mechanism and a single-pivot circle capacity up to 52 inches in diameter. The listed minimum circle diameter is 9-1/4 inches. Its compatibility list includes selected Bosch, DeWalt, Hitachi, Makita, Milwaukee, Porter-Cable and Ridgid models; the page also notes a Bosch baseplate-installation caveat. Check that caveat and the exact model before purchase. Review the ellipse/circle jig’s fit information.

Sigerio 4 in 1 Router Circle Cutting Jig for Cutting Large Circles 10"-58"
  • 10"–58" Large Circle Cutting Range: Built for larger woodworking projects, this router circle jig cuts precise circles and arcs from 10" to 58" in diameter. The oversized base and extension rod provide the extra reach needed for large tabletops, signs, furniture panels, speaker projects, and other oversized circular cuts.
  • Broad Router Compatibility with Oversized Base: The large multi-hole base is designed to fit a wide range of handheld and compact routers across popular brands and models. Multiple mounting-hole patterns accommodate different router bases and screw spacing, giving you greater flexibility when matching the jig to your router.
  • Circle Cutting, Grooving & Straight-Line Routing: More than a circle cutting jig, this versatile router guide can also be paired with the positioner for grooving and straight-line routing. One setup handles circular, curved, and linear routing tasks for furniture making, cabinetry, and DIY woodworking projects.
  • One-Piece Die-Cast Aluminum Construction: The rigid aluminum base helps minimize flex and unwanted movement while routing. Combined with the extension rod and stable mounting system, it helps keep the router on the intended cutting path for cleaner edges and more consistent results.
  • Quick Setup & Compatibility Check: Align the multi-hole base with your router's existing mounting holes, tighten the screws evenly, adjust the extension rod to your desired cutting diameter, and start routing. Because router base designs vary by model, check your router base size and mounting-hole spacing before ordering.

4. Milescraft Circle Guide Kit

A Milescraft 2025 catalog search result describes two circle-guide jigs, compatibility with most routers and a 1-1/2–52-inch cutting range. Because that catalog result does not establish current kit contents or model-specific fit, consult the current manufacturer manual to confirm the range, included parts and compatibility before choosing it for a particular cut. Check Milescraft’s current product documentation.

5. Avanti Router Circle Cutting Jig (SKU 71212T)

Avanti describes this jig as plywood with a melamine laminate and names supported models from selected Bosch 1617/1618/1619, DeWalt DW616/DW618/DW625, Porter-Cable, Makita, Milwaukee and Hitachi families. The available product information does not state a circle diameter range, so do not assume a size capacity; check the current manual or product documentation for the range and your exact router/base combination. Check Avanti’s product information.

  • ⚠️ ROUTER COMPATIBILITY CHECK REQUIRED – Fits most compact, trim, and cordless routers including Bosch Colt, DeWalt DCW600/DWP611, Makita XTR01, Milwaukee M18 FUEL, Porter Cable, Ridgid, Ryobi, and more. NOT for full-size plunge routers (use Model 200/240 instead). CRITICAL: Check our detailed compatibility chart before ordering to ensure proper fit and prevent returns. Compatible brands listed for reference only.

How to check fit before you buy

  1. Identify the exact router and base. Record the full model number and whether you will use the fixed or plunge base. A router family name alone may not identify the mounting pattern.
  2. Compare the mounting pattern and hardware. Check hole locations, screw type and whether installation requires removing a plastic sub-base. A compatibility table can help identify model-specific screw and mounting details: review the router circle-jig compatibility information.
  3. Confirm the project diameter is inside the stated range. Match the jig’s documented minimum and maximum circle diameters to the finished work, rather than assuming a broad “fits most” claim covers every size.
  4. Check required baseplate changes. Follow the jig’s instructions for any baseplate removal or installation, including the Bosch caveats on the Rockler products.
  5. Treat custom drilling as a modification. If a seller says the jig can be drilled for another router, consult the manual and verify screw engagement, clearance and secure mounting. Do not interpret that option as manufacturer-verified compatibility for every router.

Choose the pivot style and cutting shape

Rockler describes sharp and blunt pivot pins for its circle jigs. Its product guidance says the sharp point is for soft woods, while the blunt pin can be used when a center hole is acceptable. This is the seller’s instruction, not an independent performance finding; choose based on the workpiece and whether a small center mark or hole is acceptable.

A conventional fixed-pivot guide is for circle cutting. For an ellipse or sweeping arc, the Rockler Ellipse/Circle system is the option here that expressly describes those capabilities. Confirm the shape and size limits in the product instructions before laying out the work.

Align the base plate, tighten the screws, set your cutting radius, and you're ready to route. Its lightweight, detachable design makes it easy to store or carry from the workshop to the job site.
  • One-Piece Die-Cast Aluminum Construction: The rigid aluminum body helps minimize flex while routing, keeping the router on the intended radius for cleaner edges and more consistent circle diameters.
  • Check Compatibility Before Ordering: If your router is listed above, it is designed for direct mounting. For other models, confirm that the diagonal mounting-hole spacing on your router base is between 2.36" and 3.94" (6–10 cm) before ordering.

Can I use a circle jig to cut a circle in the center of a board with a compact trim router?

Possibly, if both the jig and the exact trim-router model and base are compatible and the required circle diameter falls within the jig’s range. For example, Rockler lists its compact-router jig for 6–36-inch circles and names specific pre-drilled router models. Do not assume that a compact router will fit simply because the product is described as a compact jig; check its mounting instructions and the router’s base. Plan the center pivot and workholding so the board remains stable throughout the cut.
