34 TV Wall Ideas That Are Both Functional and Stylish

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The best TV wall is both a focal point and an infrastructure plan. The screen should have the right viewing height, structural support, ventilation, power, signal cables, storage, and service access before you decide whether it belongs in a built-in, behind artwork, beside a fireplace, or above a simple console.

Here are 34 ways to make the television feel integrated rather than accidentally placed. Each idea combines a visual treatment with a practical payoff, but none is universal: fireplace mounting, recessed screens, heavy stone, tall cabinetry, concealed wiring, and wall-hung storage all depend on the room, the TV model, the wall structure, and local electrical requirements.

Quick decision guide

If you want… Start with… Plan carefully for…
A fully integrated architectural wall Full-width built-ins, a niche, slats, acoustic panels, or a slab backdrop Ventilation, structural backing, cable access, and future service
More floor space A floating media console or wall-mounted storage Wall material, anchors, load limits, and anti-tip protection
A flexible living-room display Art mode, a gallery wall, sliding panels, or curtains Clearance, ventilation, panel weight, and access to the screen
A solution for a small or rented home A shallow dresser, low console, corner layout, or paintable raceway Viewing height, surface cable routing, and reversible installation
A fireplace-centered room A TV beside the fireplace where possible Heat, viewing height, ash, and manufacturer instructions

First purchase: If the screen will be wall-mounted, begin with a compatible TV wall mount, not a decorative finish. Confirm the TV’s size, weight, VESA pattern, and the wall’s load-bearing structure before choosing the rest of the design.

The 34 TV wall ideas

Use the idea that solves your room’s biggest problem first: architecture, storage, cable management, flexibility, or viewing geometry. The finish should support the function rather than disguise a poorly planned installation.

Built-in and architectural treatments

1. Full-width built-in media wall

Look: Build symmetrical cabinetry across the entire wall, with an open central bay sized for the television and a long, continuous base.

#1 Best Overall
Amazon Basics Full Motion Articulating TV Wall Mount, with Swivel and Tilt, for 26" to 55" TVs and Flat Panels up to 80 Lbs, VESA Compatible, Single Stud, Black
  • Important: Watch the video and learn the”Designed for" details listed below!
  • Designed for concrete, brick and wood studs wall (single stud).
  • Designed for TVs up to 80 lbs (36.3 KG) and display sized 26" - 55" (66 CM - 140 CM).
  • Designed for VESA sized from 3.9'' x 3.9'' through 15.7'' x 15.7''.
  • Comfortable View with tilt range from +10° to -5°.

Payoff: The screen becomes part of a deliberate architectural composition instead of looking like an object placed between unrelated pieces of furniture. Closed cabinets can hide routers, game consoles, remotes, and media clutter, while a few open sections keep the wall from feeling too heavy. Include ventilation gaps, removable panels, and service access before the millwork is closed.

2. Recessed TV niche with a painted interior

Look: Set the television into a shallow painted niche so its projection from the wall is visually reduced.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: A niche can create the appearance of a custom installation without requiring a full wall of cabinetry. It is not automatically safer or better ventilated, however. Measure the television, mount, cables, and any One Connect Box, then compare the proposed cavity with the model’s installation manual. Samsung guidance requires ventilation openings to remain unobstructed, and some of its instructions specify at least 4 inches between the television or One Connect Box and surrounding objects. The manual for the exact model takes precedence.

3. Fireplace-side TV wall

Look: Place the television beside the fireplace rather than directly above it, using cabinetry, a vertical panel, or a matching finish to connect the two zones.

Payoff: This arrangement preserves a lower, more comfortable viewing position and avoids direct heat exposure. Samsung does not recommend mounting a TV above a fireplace because of heat, elevated viewing height, ash, and cable or equipment complications. If a fireplace-above-TV arrangement is unavoidable, treat it as a specialist design: follow the television and fireplace manufacturers’ instructions, test temperatures at the proposed screen location, and plan protected wiring and service access. It is not a default solution.

4. Stone-look slab backdrop

Look: Use a large-format porcelain slab, quartz-look panel, or another dramatic stone-effect finish behind the screen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: Large panels create a strong focal plane with fewer grout lines and can make a simple television wall feel substantial. Confirm the substrate, panel weight, attachment method, and access to outlets before installation. A heavy finish may require structural preparation, and a flawless-looking slab is difficult to service if the cables and mounting hardware were not planned first.

5. Vertical wood-slat feature wall

Look: Run timber, veneer, or acoustic slats from floor to ceiling behind the television.

Payoff: The vertical rhythm adds warmth and makes a low ceiling feel taller. Decide whether the mount and outlets will pass through the slats or sit in a recessed backing zone. Leave removable sections wherever cables, power, or the mount may need future access; do not bury a connection that will eventually need to be replaced.

6. Acoustic-panel TV wall

Look: Cover the TV zone with felt, wood-fiber, or other acoustic panels, usually in a restrained neutral tone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: The treatment softens hard-room reflections while giving a media room a finished visual identity. Keep ventilation openings, electrical outlets, and removable service panels accessible. Acoustic material should not be installed in a way that presses against the television, traps heat, or makes the mount impossible to inspect.

7. Half-wall paneling

Look: Apply beadboard, fluted panels, wainscoting, or molding only across the TV zone, stopping around chair-rail or console height.

Payoff: This delivers architectural character at a lower cost and with less visual weight than a full-height treatment. A wall-mounted television can sit above the paneling while a console aligns with its lower edge. Keep the panel thickness in the mount calculation and provide a solid, level backing surface.

8. Box molding behind the TV

Look: Create one large framed rectangle around the screen and paint the molding the same color as the wall.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: The frame gives the television a visual boundary without competing with it. Matching the wall color produces a subtle built-in effect; a contrasting trim turns the screen into a more formal feature. Keep the molding clear of the mount’s movement and avoid creating a narrow enclosure that restricts airflow.

9. Drywall arch around a media niche

Look: Use a curved drywall opening around the television, with a concealed shelf or shallow cabinet below for a streaming device and remotes.

Payoff: The arch softens the hard rectangular shape of a large black screen and suits traditional, Mediterranean, and softer contemporary interiors. The curve is primarily a visual treatment, so preserve a practical rectangular service zone behind it. Make sure equipment can be removed without dismantling the arch or built-in trim.

10. Plaster-look monochrome wall

Look: Paint the wall, console, trim, cable covers, and nearby shelving in one matte color with a plaster-like texture.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: Reducing contrast helps the television read as part of the architecture. Matte paint also creates fewer reflections than a glossy surface. Keep the texture fine enough that the mount can sit flat and that cables or raceways can be serviced without damaging the finish.

Furniture-led layouts

11. Floating media console

Look: Mount a streamlined console below the television, leaving visible floor beneath it.

Payoff: The open floor makes a small room feel lighter and simplifies cleaning, while the cabinet hides equipment and provides a route for cables. Use a console specifically designed for wall mounting. Anchor it with hardware appropriate to the wall material and follow its stated load limits; drywall, masonry, wood studs, and metal-stud walls require different solutions. IKEA warns that suitable screws and plugs are the installer’s responsibility and that wall-hung capacity depends on the wall material.

12. Long, low console beneath a wall-mounted TV

Look: Pair a wall-mounted screen with a low console that extends visibly beyond both sides of the television.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: The wider base visually stabilizes the screen and provides room for a soundbar, game console, record player, books, or decorative objects. IKEA recommends that a TV bench be wider than the TV placed on it. Leave enough depth for ventilation and cable bends, and do not push heat-producing equipment into a sealed compartment.

13. BESTÅ-style modular wall

Look: Combine closed doors for clutter, open shelves for books and objects, and wall-mounted cabinets around a central TV zone.

Payoff: A modular system lets the storage adapt to the room instead of forcing the room around a single cabinet. IKEA’s BESTÅ and EKET ranges illustrate this approach with configurable TV-storage combinations, concealed storage, open display, cable outlets, and wall-mounted units. Follow the exact product instructions, mounting points, and load limits; a modular cabinet is not safe simply because it is sold as a TV-storage system.

14. Asymmetrical cabinet composition

Look: Center the television but let cabinets, shelves, or a tall panel extend farther on one side.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: Asymmetry works well when the seating is off-center, a doorway interrupts one side of the wall, or the room needs more storage in one direction. Balance the composition with a lamp, plant, or artwork rather than forcing identical cabinets where the architecture does not support them. Confirm that the extended cabinet does not narrow a walkway or obstruct a viewing angle.

15. Open shelving around the TV

Look: Use a small number of shelves on either side or above the screen for books, plants, framed art, and objects.

Payoff: Open shelving makes the TV wall feel less like an equipment cabinet and allows the display to change over time. Leave deliberate clearance around the television, keep objects from touching its ventilation openings, and avoid filling every shelf. Heavy or fragile objects should be securely placed, particularly above or beside a screen.

16. Low credenza with art above or beside it

Look: Keep the television wall simple, use a low credenza as the main storage piece, and place restrained art in the remaining negative space.

Pipishell Full Motion TV Wall Mount for 26–65 inch TVs up to 80 lbs | Max VESA 400x400mm, TV Mount Bracket with Articulating Arms, Extension, Tilt, Swivel, Leveling, Reinforced Steel Structure
  • Wide Compatibility: The Pipishell TV wall mount fits most 26"-65" LED LCD OLED Plasma Flat Curved TVs with VESA patterns 75x75mm up to 400x400mm. Compatible with wood stud, concrete, and brick wall mounting. Do not install the mount on drywall alone.
  • Solid & Reliable: Featuring strong construction with articulating arms that are 33% thicker than other mounts, this TV wall mount can support up to 80 lbs. Premium heavy-duty steel, durable faceplate, and security screws provide an extra sense of security.
  • Perfect Viewing Angle: The full motion TV mount can tilt +5°/-15° to reduce glare and swivels +/-90° to direct the screen toward your position for a more comfortable experience. Level the TV +/-4° after installation to perfectly fine tune the TV’s position.
  • Space-Saving Design: This wall mount can extend 17" for viewing and retracts back to 2.36" for a low-profile look. The single-stud design is ideal for installing in spaces such as a corner or area where only one stud is available.
  • Quick & Simple Installation: The single-stud design makes it easier to mount than dual arm models that require two studs. The full motion TV wall mount includes mounting hardware and detailed instructions for fast installation.

Payoff: This is a good choice when the room does not need a large built-in. A wood, painted, or textured credenza can carry the visual weight while art prevents the wall from becoming a single black rectangle. Keep artwork clear of the screen’s ventilation and avoid leaning heavy pieces where they could fall onto the television.

17. Vintage furniture under a modern screen

Look: Place a mid-century credenza, antique console, or reclaimed wood cabinet beneath a contemporary wall-mounted screen.

Payoff: The contrast softens the technology and gives the room more character than a matching media suite. Check the furniture’s depth, stability, and cable openings before using it for equipment. If the television is mounted, the furniture should not be treated as structural support unless it was designed and secured for that purpose.

18. Two narrow towers flanking the TV

Look: Use tall, slim cabinets on both sides of the screen to create a framed vertical composition.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: Towers provide valuable storage in a narrow room and draw the eye upward. They must be sized so they do not block ventilation, remote signals, speakers, or access to the mount. Secure tall units against tipping with hardware suited to the wall and follow the manufacturer’s anti-tip instructions. Do not rely on their weight alone, especially in a home with children or pets.

19. Bench-style console with baskets

Look: Choose a low bench or console with open cubbies, then use baskets for toys, controllers, blankets, and other frequently handled items.

Payoff: Open storage is faster to use than doors in a family room and keeps everyday items contained without pretending they will never be used. Leave air around consoles and routers, label cable paths, and avoid making the baskets climbable beneath an unsecured screen.

20. Corner TV wall with a diagonal console

Look: Turn an awkward corner into a defined media zone with a corner console, triangular shelves, or a custom diagonal cabinet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: This can reclaim unusable floor area and improve furniture circulation. Check the viewing angle from every principal seat before drilling. A corner mount or articulating mount may change the television’s clearance from both walls, so measure its full range of movement rather than only the screen’s flat dimensions.

Screen-disappearing and flexible concepts

21. Art-mode television wall

Look: Treat a frame-style television as artwork and give it a restrained surrounding composition.

Payoff: When the screen displays art, the wall can function as part of the room’s decor even when the television is not being watched. Keep the surrounding frame color, lighting, and adjacent objects quiet enough that the displayed artwork remains legible. Remember that an art-mode television still needs the same structural support, ventilation, cable planning, and service access as any other display.

22. Sliding-panel concealment

Look: Install bypass doors, a fabric panel, or a lightweight decorative screen that slides across the television when it is not in use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: The media wall can disappear in a living room, guest room, or formal space. The track must support the panel’s actual weight, remain level, and stop before the panel can strike the screen. Leave the television’s ventilation clear even when the panel is open or closed, and make sure the screen can be reached for servicing.

23. Lift cabinet or projector alternative

Look: Hide a television in a lift cabinet, or replace the permanent screen with a projector and retractable projection surface.

Payoff: These are high-complexity options for rooms where a black rectangle is unacceptable. They require careful planning for ventilation, mechanism access, projector throw distance, ambient light, power, control systems, and future repairs. A lift cabinet should never be packed tightly around a heat-producing display or motor, and a projector is not automatically simpler than a television.

24. TV behind bi-fold artwork

Look: Mount hinged artwork or decorative panels over the screen so the panels fold fully open for viewing.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: This gives a traditional room a concealed-media treatment without requiring a sliding track. Use lightweight panels with properly rated hinges, provide stops so they cannot swing into the display, and confirm that the open panels do not block ventilation or the remote sensor. The screen must remain accessible rather than being permanently sealed behind the artwork.

25. Gallery wall with the TV integrated

Look: Arrange framed art around the television using one frame color, a shared baseline, or a consistent outer edge.

Payoff: The screen becomes one element in a gallery rather than the sole focal point. Use secure hardware for every frame and avoid placing heavy or fragile pieces directly above the television. Plan the arrangement with paper templates before drilling so the screen has sufficient breathing room and the composition does not feel accidental.

26. TV surrounded by picture ledges

Look: Install shallow ledges around the television for small frames, books, and objects that can be edited over time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: Ledges create a flexible display without attaching objects to the screen or repeatedly drilling the wall. Keep the ledges outside the television’s required clearances and use a front lip or restraints where needed. Do not place anything that could slide or fall onto the screen.

27. Black-on-black media wall

Look: Pair a dark wall, dark console, and dark television bezel, preferably with matte rather than glossy surfaces.

Payoff: The low-contrast arrangement reduces the visual prominence of the bezel and makes the screen feel integrated even without cabinetry. Matte finishes help limit distracting reflections, but they cannot solve glare from a window directly opposite the screen. Test the wall color and lighting at the times the room is normally used.

28. TV wall with a curtain backdrop

Look: Mount a curtain track at the ceiling so fabric can conceal the entire media zone in a multipurpose room.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: A curtain can turn a living room, bedroom, or studio into a calmer space when the television is not in use. Keep fabric away from fireplaces, heaters, electrical equipment, and hot ventilation outlets. The curtain should move freely without catching on the mount, soundbar, console, or cable raceway.

Small-space and room-specific solutions

29. Bedroom TV above a shallow dresser

Look: Mount the screen above a slim dresser or shallow cabinet, keeping it close to the eye line from the bed.

Payoff: A shallow setup preserves floor space and avoids the oversized hotel-room look. Samsung suggests approximately 42 inches from the floor to the screen center as a starting point for a typical seated viewer, but a bedroom viewed from a reclined position needs its own measurement. Use a slim mount, check the tilt angle, and route cables before fixing the furniture position. Avoid mounting so high that neck strain becomes part of the room’s function.

30. Kids’ room low-profile TV wall

Look: Use a secure mount, rounded or closed storage, and no climbable furniture directly beneath the television.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: The low-profile arrangement reduces protrusions and keeps toys contained. Samsung warns against unstable placement and unsecured furniture. Anchor the mount and storage correctly, secure tall furniture against tipping, keep cords managed, and do not create a ladder of shelves or drawers beneath the screen.

31. Apartment-friendly cable-raceway wall

Look: Use a paintable surface raceway that follows a straight line from the outlet to the television, then match it to the wall or trim.

IWORKBOARD 50 55 65 inch Full Motion TV Wall Mount for 32-70 inch TV Bracket,Dual articulating Arms Mount, Tilt Swivel Extension Level, Max VESA 400x400mm, 16" Studs, 110 lbs,Fit Most 40 43 50+ TVs

  • [Solid and Sturdy] This swivel TV wall mount made of heavy-duty steel and dual articulating arms that are 30% thicker. Its solid design keeps your TV steady, no wobbling or slipping here! Plus, we’ve got you covered with 10 years of support for this product.
  • [Enjoy Viewing Freedom] The adjustable TV wall mount tilts +5°/-15° to reduce glare and swivels +/-45°. Level your screen +/-4° after installation to fine tune the TV’s position. All these will make you find the most comfortable and healthiest viewing position.
  • [Space Saving Design] The TV mount 70 inch allows your TV to be positioned just 3.43 inches from the wall, thereby optimizing space, while the TV arm can also put out to 15.07'' for effortless adjustments and connections.
  • [Easy Installation] The package includes all necessary hardware along with clear instructions. A paper template for marking drill holes would have been beneficial. Tips: Need concrete anchors, M8x50mm screws, or missing parts? Don’t run to Home Depot or Lowe’s—we’ll send them to you directly. Just reach out to our US-based support team (available daily) and we’ll get it taken care of quickly.

Payoff: A raceway conceals visible cables without opening a rental wall and is easier to remove or service than concealed wiring. Choose a channel large enough for the cables, use appropriate corners and covers, and keep the route simple. Do not place an ordinary extension cord inside the wall. In-wall routes require cables listed for in-wall use and an appropriate power solution; new outlets or electrical changes should follow local code and be completed by a qualified electrician where required.

32. Dining-room pass-through TV wall

Look: Mount the screen on a wall visible from both the dining and living areas, using a swivel or articulating mount only when the structure and viewing geometry support it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: One media zone can serve two rooms without adding a second television. Confirm that the mount’s full movement will not strike a doorway, light fixture, cabinet, or passing person. An articulating arm also places more leverage on the wall than a flat mount, so studs, blocking, or suitable masonry support matter.

33. Game-room equipment wall

Look: Build a dedicated wall with ventilated shelves, controller hooks, labeled cable paths, and accessible charging or power locations.

Payoff: The system turns a tangle of consoles and accessories into an organized station. Do not pack heat-generating consoles, receivers, or power equipment into sealed compartments. Ventilation is important for the equipment as well as the television. Leave room to unplug and replace cables, label both ends of longer runs, and keep controllers off walkways.

34. Minimal TV wall with one sculptural object

Look: Use a plain wall, low console, hidden cables, and one oversized plant, lamp, ceramic object, or piece of sculpture.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Payoff: This is the cleanest solution when the room already has strong architecture or the homeowner dislikes built-ins. The single object supplies scale and asymmetry without competing with the screen. Keep it stable, outside the television’s ventilation zone, and clear of speakers and remote sensors.

Installation checklist: plan the wall before choosing the finish

A stylish result depends on details that are easy to hide but difficult to correct later. Work through this list before ordering cabinetry, cutting a niche, or installing a slab.

  1. Record the exact television details. Note the model, screen dimensions, weight without and with its stand if relevant, power and signal connections, and the VESA mounting pattern. Samsung’s US guidance lists common patterns from 100 × 100 through 600 × 400 mm, but those are not a substitute for checking the exact model.
  2. Select the mount by specification, not by the word universal. The mount must support the television’s size and weight and match its VESA pattern. A low-profile mount suits a flat feature wall; a tilt mount can help with a slightly high position; a full-motion mount may solve a corner or pass-through layout but needs extra wall clearance and stronger structural planning.
  3. Verify the wall structure. A TV mount should be attached to a stud or another structure demonstrably capable of carrying the load. Inspect for studs, blocking, masonry, metal framing, plumbing, and electrical wiring before drilling. If the wall cannot provide a suitable attachment point, redesign the backing or use a qualified installer rather than relying on an advertised universal mount.
  4. Set the viewing height from the seats. Measure seated eye level and the actual viewing position. Approximately 42 inches from the floor to screen center is a starting point for a typical seated viewer, not a universal rule. Bedroom, reclined, accessibility, and multi-row viewing conditions may require a different height.
  5. Draw the complete elevation. Mark the television, mount, console, soundbar, outlets, shelves, cabinet doors, trim, fireplace, and walking paths at full scale. Check the screen’s outer dimensions rather than using its diagonal size alone. A console generally looks more intentional when it is wider than the TV.
  6. Plan ventilation and service access. Never cover the television’s ventilation openings. Check the exact manual for side, top, rear, and bottom clearances; where Samsung guidance specifies 4 inches around the television or One Connect Box, preserve that clearance. Recesses, sliding panels, artwork doors, and cabinetry need removable or openable sections so the television and equipment can be serviced.
  7. Map power and signal cables separately. Plan the outlet location, HDMI runs, network cable, antenna cable, speaker wire, and any One Connect Box location before the wall is closed. Use in-wall-rated cables for concealed runs and an appropriate cable-management or power-routing kit. Do not conceal an ordinary extension cord in a wall.
  8. Follow electrical code. A new outlet, relocated receptacle, hardwired power solution, or work inside a wall may require a qualified electrician and local permits or inspections. A low-voltage cable kit does not automatically make hidden mains power compliant.
  9. Coordinate the soundbar. A soundbar may go above or below a wall-mounted TV, but it needs clearance and should not be enclosed in a way that harms sound quality or access. For the Sonos Beam, Sonos recommends at least 2 inches between the Beam and a TV when the Beam is placed on a stand, at least 1 inch above the Beam for its controls, and clearance at both ends from walls or obstructions. Treat those as Beam-specific guidance and check the instructions for the exact soundbar.
  10. Anchor every wall-hung component. Floating consoles, wall cabinets, shelves, and tall towers need hardware suited to the wall material and the actual load. Follow the furniture manufacturer’s instructions, including anti-tip requirements. A wall-mounted cabinet has a different load calculation from a television mount.
  11. Test before finishing. Temporarily position the screen, soundbar, console, and seating. Check reflections, viewing height, remote operation, Wi-Fi or wired-network access, cable bend radius, door swings, and equipment temperatures. For a fireplace-side or fireplace-adjacent plan, follow the exact manufacturer guidance and test the proposed location rather than assuming the wall is cool enough.
  12. Photograph and label the infrastructure. Before drywall, paneling, or cabinetry conceals the wall, photograph cable routes and label both ends of every run. Keep a record of the mount model, fastener locations, outlet circuits, and any access-panel dimensions.

Product categories worth specifying

The most useful purchases for a TV wall are usually installation and finishing components rather than a replacement television. Compatibility must be confirmed against the chosen model and wall.

  • TV wall mount: Match the size range, weight rating, VESA pattern, wall structure, and desired movement. A full-motion TV wall mount is useful for some corners and pass-through rooms, but it is not the right choice for every wall.
  • in-wall cable management kit and in-wall-rated HDMI cable: Use these for planned concealed low-voltage routes, with a compliant power solution where mains power is involved.
  • paintable cable raceway: A practical surface-mounted choice for apartments, finished walls, and projects where opening the wall is not justified.
  • soundbar wall mount: Coordinate the bracket with the soundbar model, TV height, control access, speaker orientation, and clearance at the ends.
  • stud finder and carpenter’s level: Useful for locating structure and setting the mount or console accurately, but tools do not replace an assessment of the wall’s load capacity.
  • Floating TV console or modular TV storage: Choose a unit with suitable wall-mounting instructions, cable openings, ventilation, and load limits. BESTÅ TV unit combinations are one named example of a configurable system, not a universal solution for every wall.
  • Acoustic or slat panels: Select a system that can be removed around the mount, outlets, and ventilation openings.
  • TV LED backlight: Low-glare bias lighting can reduce the harsh contrast of a bright screen against a dark room, provided the strip and power supply are installed without blocking vents or creating heat against the television.
  • Shelving and anti-tip hardware: Use hardware rated for the wall material and the actual contents, especially for tall towers, floating shelves, and children’s rooms.

When to bring in a professional

DIY installation may be reasonable when the wall structure is clear, the mount is compatible, power already exists in the correct location, and the finish does not conceal difficult-to-service equipment. Get professional help for masonry or unusual framing, a new electrical outlet, concealed mains power, a heavy slab, a fireplace installation, a large built-in, a lift mechanism, or any project where the wall’s capacity is uncertain.

Professional TV mounting or home-theater installation is especially valuable when the project combines structural work, cable concealment, sound equipment, and custom cabinetry. The goal is not merely to get the television onto the wall; it is to make the finished system safe, ventilated, serviceable, and comfortable to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to mount a TV above a fireplace?

Usually, no. Samsung does not recommend mounting a TV above a fireplace because of heat, elevated viewing height, ash, and cable or equipment complications. Placing the TV beside the fireplace is generally the safer design direction when the room permits. Any above-fireplace installation must follow the exact TV and fireplace instructions and should include temperature testing and professional planning.

How high should a wall-mounted TV be?

A typical seated-viewing starting point is about 42 inches from the floor to the center of the screen, according to Samsung guidance. Adjust that measurement for the actual eye level of the people using the room, the sofa or bed height, reclined viewing, accessibility needs, and whether a soundbar or mantel changes the layout.

How do I choose the right TV wall mount?

Check the exact TV model’s weight, dimensions, and VESA pattern, then select a mount rated for all three requirements. Also confirm that the wall can carry the load and that the fasteners will attach to studs, suitable blocking, or properly specified masonry support. The word universal on a mount package is not enough.

What is the correct way to hide TV cables?

Use in-wall-rated cables and an appropriate cable-management or power-routing kit for concealed runs. Do not hide an ordinary extension cord inside the wall. A new outlet or concealed mains-power work should follow local electrical code and may require a qualified electrician.

Can a soundbar be installed above a wall-mounted TV?

Yes, but leave the clearance required by the soundbar’s instructions and preserve access to its controls and connections. Sonos, for example, gives Beam-specific guidance for spacing from the TV, clearance above the controls, and clearance at both ends. Do not seal a soundbar inside a cabinet if that harms its sound or access.

The Bottom Line

The best TV wall is the one whose style follows a sound plan: support the screen with a compatible mount, set the height from the seating, preserve ventilation, route power and signal cables correctly, anchor storage to the wall, and leave access for future repairs. Once those constraints are solved, built-ins, slats, stone, art, curtains, or a simple low console can make the television feel intentional rather than accidental.
