Weber is recalling about 3.2 million metal-wire-bristle grill brushes after reports that detached bristles were swallowed and consumers sought medical treatment. If your brush has model number 6277, 6278, 6463, 6464, 6493 or 6494, stop using it immediately. Contact Weber for the recall replacement and discard the recalled brush as instructed.
Is my Weber grill brush included in the recall?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on February 26, 2026. It covers only these six model numbers:
- 6277
- 6278
- 6463
- 6464
- 6493
- 6494
Check the model number printed on the product packaging. Do not rely on appearance alone; consult the CPSC recall notice and product photographs if you need help identifying a brush.
How to distinguish the recalled models
The CPSC describes the recalled brushes as having plastic or wood handles and measuring 12 to 21 inches. The model descriptions can help, but confirm the number against the packaging:

What should you do if you own one?
- Stop using the brush immediately. Do not use it for another cleaning or grilling session.
- Contact Weber using the recall instructions. The company is offering a cold-cleaning nylon-bristle replacement. Use the contact details and current directions in the CPSC recall notice.
- Discard the recalled brush as instructed. Do not pass it on or sell it.
- Before grilling, inspect the grill surface for detached bristles and examine food closely. Acting CPSC Chairman Peter A. Feldman gave this advice in the agency’s February 26, 2026 statement. He also urged consumers to switch to non-wire alternatives.
Why are the brushes being recalled?
Metal bristles can detach from the brush, remain on the grill or transfer to food, then be swallowed. According to Weber information reported in the CPSC notice, the company received 38 reports and reviews of detached bristles. Four reports involved consumers swallowing bristles and seeking medical treatment. The CPSC warns that swallowed bristles can cause serious internal injuries that may require surgery. These reports do not establish an injury rate for all brushes or users.
Where were the brushes sold?
The CPSC says the brushes were sold from 2011 through 2026 for $10 to $17 at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Target stores, as well as online at Amazon and Weber.com. They were also found on resale sites such as eBay. The recall applies to the listed model numbers regardless of where a brush was bought.

The CPSC notice identifies Weber-Stephen Products LLC of Palatine, Illinois, as the importer and lists China and Cambodia as manufacturing countries.

For this recall, Weber’s remedy is a cold-cleaning nylon-bristle replacement. CPSC’s Acting Chairman advises switching to non-wire alternatives. The cited statements do not establish that every nylon brush has been tested or approved by CPSC, so follow Weber’s recall directions rather than treating the remedy as a general certification of other products.
