These 16 ideas synthesize IKEA U.S. guidance on pantry storage; they are not a list IKEA published as a single 16-idea article. Measure your shelves and cabinet clearances before choosing organizers, then check current product dimensions and availability.
Start with clear, grouped storage
1. Decant dry goods into clear containers
Transfer foods such as cereal, flour, or snacks into transparent containers so contents are easier to see at a glance. IKEA names IKEA 365+ food containers and glass jars such as KORALLVIPPA and VARDAGEN as examples. Choose containers that fit the shelf and the foods you actually store. IKEA’s pantry storage guidance recommends transparent storage for visibility.

2. Label containers
Mark each container with its contents, and consider adding an expiration date. Labels help distinguish similar-looking ingredients and make it easier to see what needs replenishing. IKEA recommends labels as a way to identify contents and track dates. IKEA’s six pantry storage tips discusses labeling and grouping.

3. Group supplies by category or use
Keep baking ingredients, breakfast foods, snacks, or sauces together in a basket or bin. A grouped container can be lifted out when you need the whole category, rather than retrieving items one by one. IKEA suggests this approach for pantry supplies; a wire basket such as RISATORP is one named example. IKEA’s pantry tips covers baskets and grouping.

5. Use stackable containers
Stackable boxes can make better use of shelf area for foods such as snacks, baking supplies, and cereal. IKEA names IKEA 365+ boxes as an example. Before stacking, check the shelf’s usable height and make sure the containers remain stable and easy to remove. IKEA’s pantry organization ideas includes stackable food storage.
Make shelves and cabinets easier to reach
6. Add shelf inserts where space above items is unused
A shelf insert creates another level for jars or shorter items, helping use vertical space that might otherwise sit empty. VARIERA is an IKEA example. Check the insert’s width, depth, and height against both the shelf and the items beneath it before buying. IKEA’s storage guidance recommends inserts as an extra shelf level.

7. Add a clip-on basket beneath a shelf
A clip-on basket can create storage below an existing shelf without a major cabinet change. IKEA names PÅLYCKE as an example. Confirm that the shelf edge and the clearance below it suit the basket, and that it will not interfere with doors or items on the shelf beneath. IKEA’s pantry storage page describes clip-on baskets as an add-on option.
8. Use pull-out storage in deep cabinets
When items disappear at the back of a deep cabinet, a pull-out tray or basket can bring them forward. IKEA’s pantry guidance recommends pull-out storage to improve access. Measure the cabinet interior and check the hardware and installation requirements for the system you choose; a pull-out must fit the cabinet and move freely.
9. Choose adjustable shelves for changing item heights
Adjustable shelves can accommodate a mix of short jars and taller packages as your storage needs change. IKEA describes adjustable shelving as a layout and access option. Match the insert to the drawer’s interior dimensions and the size of the items you want to separate. IKEA’s pantry storage ideas describes drawer inserts and organizers.
11. Put a turntable in a cabinet for small jars
A turntable can make small jars easier to bring into view, especially when they would otherwise sit in a back corner. IKEA’s pantry organization ideas includes turntables for small goods.
12. Arrange cans in accessible rows
Keep cans visible and avoid stacking them so deeply that front items block those behind. Holders or pantry drawers can help organize cans in rows that are easier to scan and retrieve. 13. Use open shelving or a cart if you do not have a pantry cabinet
Open shelves or a cart can provide visible storage for dry foods where built-in pantry cabinets are absent. Keep frequently used goods easy to reach and group smaller items in baskets or containers. IKEA suggests both open shelving and carts as alternatives for pantry storage.
14. Assign locations by frequency of use
Put daily-use foods in the easiest-to-reach locations and less frequently used items higher or farther away. Store heavy goods where you can lift them safely; use a stable step stool rather than reaching precariously for anything kept high. This placement strategy follows IKEA’s guidance to make daily storage accessible and separate it from higher storage.
15. Use baskets for categories you need to see or lift together
Wire baskets can keep a category together while leaving contents visible, and a whole basket can be lifted out when needed. IKEA names RISATORP as a wire-basket example and discusses wire baskets for visibility and access. Consider whether you can see into the basket from your usual viewpoint and whether its contents make sense as a group. IKEA’s pantry storage guidance discusses wire baskets.
