Construction is under way on 100 two-bedroom low-income houses at the Le Reconnaissance Housing Development on East Coast Demerara, Guyana. At a ministerial inspection reported on October 4, 2026, the homes were about 15 per cent complete, with completion expected by the end of January 2027. The report said all 100 had already been allocated.

The current construction block comprises 100 two-bedroom homes classified as low-income housing. Guyana Chronicle reported the project details on October 4, 2026, citing a Ministry of Housing press release. The report said Housing Minister Collin Croal inspected the site on Friday, October 2.

The report put the value of each unit at $5.6 million, but did not specify the currency or explain whether “valued at” refers to construction cost, sale price or another measure. It also did not give further specifications for the houses.

At the time of the reported inspection, construction was approximately 15 per cent complete. The forecast was for the homes to be finished by the end of January 2027; that is an expected completion date, not confirmation that the work was subsequently completed.

How the 100 homes fit into the wider development
The 100 homes are part of a larger Le Reconnaissance programme reported to comprise about 175 low-income houses. An earlier block of 75 homes accounts for the remainder of that approximate total.
The report said all 100 homes in the current block had been allocated. It did not provide the eligibility or selection criteria, recipient payment terms, or details on whether further allocations are available. The report therefore does not establish that these homes are open for purchase or application.
Place in Guyana’s housing programme
The project was presented as part of a government effort to increase the supply of completed homes for applicants who prefer a finished house to a residential lot alone. The wider programme also includes prefabricated and modular housing approaches. Croal said those approaches would not replace conventional building: “The traditional way of constructing houses will continue. What we are trying to do does not displace the conventional type of housing construction.”
