10 of the Best Brand Alternatives to Ring Doorbells in 2026

The best Ring alternative depends on why you are leaving. Google Nest is the strongest choice for Google Home households, Eufy and Tapo are practical no-monthly-fee options, Reolink is better for wired local recording, and Aqara or Logitech suit Apple Home users. Before buying, decide four things: whether you need local storage, whether you will accept a subscription, how the doorbell will be powered, and which smart-home platform you use.

Why look beyond Ring?

Ring remains a recognizable video-doorbell ecosystem, but it is not the right fit for every home. Many owners want to avoid recurring cloud-storage charges, keep recordings locally, reduce cloud dependence, improve package visibility, add 24/7 recording, or use Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant, or an NVR.

Ring subscriptions are not universally mandatory, and capabilities vary by model and plan. However, many Ring users need a paid plan for convenient recorded-event history, extended playback, sharing, and advanced features. Switching brands can also mean replacing a Ring Chime, cameras, Alarm equipment, or other accessories, so compare the whole ecosystem rather than the doorbell alone.

This list focuses on established brands with U.S. purchasing routes and a meaningful difference from Ring in storage, privacy posture, installation, video, smart-home compatibility, ecosystem breadth, or subscription structure. A higher resolution number alone is not enough: mounting angle, HDR, night performance, compression, frame rate, latency, and detection quality often matter more.

1. Google Nest: best for Google Home households

Google Nest Doorbell is the easiest recommendation for people already using Google Home, Nest speakers, or Google smart displays. Person, package, animal, and vehicle alerts are central to its appeal, and the app experience is designed around Google Home rather than the legacy Nest app.

The current battery Nest Doorbell is listed at $179.99 on Google’s store, includes three hours of event history, and requires the Google Home app. Google Home Premium expands event history and some detection features. The battery model provides a head-to-toe 3:4 view but is listed at 960p rather than the wired model’s 2K HDR, and it cannot provide continuous 24/7 recording. Google also says the battery model can record for one hour if Wi-Fi goes down; this is model-specific behavior, not a general guarantee for battery doorbells.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It can be installed with existing wiring for charging and chime-related use, but renters should confirm the included chime arrangement and mounting requirements. Voice control can work through Google’s home assistant functionality and Alexa, but that is not the same as deep integration with every platform.

Choose it if: you want polished alerts and simple Google Home integration.

Skip it if: you require local recording, no cloud dependence, or battery-powered 24/7 recording.

2. Eufy: best mainstream no-monthly-fee alternative

Eufy offers one of the broadest alternatives for buyers who want local storage without committing to Ring’s recurring cloud fees. Its range includes wired, battery, dual-camera, and hub-based products, making it possible to prioritize package visibility, battery installation, or a larger camera system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Storage depends heavily on the exact product. Recordings may remain on the device, a hub, or HomeBase. Some features may require that hardware, so do not assume that every Eufy doorbell works identically. Product names such as S220, S330, E340, and newer generations should not be treated as interchangeable.

Local storage reduces reliance on a recurring recording plan, but it does not automatically make a system private. Account access, remote viewing, encryption, firmware updates, cloud-connected notifications, and remote access still matter. Battery life and notification responsiveness also depend on traffic, Wi-Fi, temperature, and model.

Choose it if: you want a conventional app and local-storage path without a mandatory monthly recording plan.

Skip it if: you want one completely standalone device with no hub or model-specific decisions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Reolink: best for wired local recording

Reolink is a strong choice for homeowners who want microSD recording, a Home Hub, an NVR, or a wired and PoE-oriented installation. Wired power makes more sense when the doorbell sees frequent activity, when continuous recording matters, or when high-resolution video is a priority.

The trade-off is installation. A PoE or wired setup may require Ethernet cable, a PoE switch or injector, a compatible transformer, an NVR, and more network planning than a battery doorbell. Local recording also transfers responsibility for storage capacity, backups, remote access, account security, and failed memory cards to the homeowner.

Reolink is generally better suited to local/NVR systems and third-party integrations than to a simple, deeply integrated Apple Home experience. Confirm whether the exact model supports the storage method, smart-home platform, and recording mode you need.

Choose it if: you own or want a local camera system and can support wired infrastructure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Skip it if: you rent or want the fastest no-tools battery installation.

4. Aqara: best for Apple Home and smart-home enthusiasts

Aqara is one of the strongest candidates for Apple Home users, especially people already using Aqara sensors, hubs, and automations. Applicable models can provide local recording through a chime or hub and may support Apple Home features, but compatibility is model- and region-specific.

Check whether the selected generation supports native Apple Home, HomeKit Secure Video, or only Aqara’s own app and hub. Those are different levels of integration. Some advanced functions require particular Aqara hubs or Apple infrastructure, and a product can be less attractive if you do not use Apple Home or Aqara automation devices.

Choose it if: Apple Home integration and local smart-home control matter more than standalone simplicity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Skip it if: you do not want to research hub requirements or ecosystem compatibility.

5. TP-Link Tapo: best value and storage flexibility

TP-Link Tapo offers a useful middle ground: current models include battery and hardwired options, broad views, applicable person/pet/vehicle/package detection, optional cloud features, and local microSD recording on supported products.

TP-Link lists microSD support up to 512GB on cited current models. A card is purchased separately, while Tapo Care adds cloud storage and additional services. The current Tapo D225 is advertised with a 2K view, 180-degree field of view, up to eight months of battery operation, and 24/7 recording when hardwired. Battery estimates depend on usage, temperature, Wi-Fi, and event volume.

Rank #2

  • 【Secure Storage No Subscription Required】Save recorded footage on a microSD card (up to 512GB, not included) or subscribe to Tapo Care for cloud storage which saves 30-days of video history. Your privacy is our priority when it comes to storing and transmitting sensitive information such as your camera videos and identity information. To ensure robust data security, Tapo implements AES 128-bit encryption and TLS 1.2 encryption protocols. (𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱: 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝟭𝟬, 𝗨𝗛𝟭, 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗦𝗗 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿)

Do not buy from an old comparison list without checking the model page. TP-Link marks the TDB21 page as end of life, while current D210, D225, and TD25 pages describe newer options. A wired model may store continuously, while the same product family’s battery mode may disable 24/7 recording or other features.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: you want modern features and local storage at a relatively accessible hardware cost.

Skip it if: you are relying on an old review or assuming every Tapo model has the same storage and AI features.

6. Arlo: best polished cloud ecosystem

Arlo is a credible Ring alternative for buyers who value polished hardware, wire-free and wired choices, and a broad multi-camera ecosystem. It is not the strongest answer to a subscription objection: recorded-video history and advanced detection are subscription-oriented, and the long-term cost can exceed the initial hardware price.

Arlo can be a sensible choice when convenience, design, remote access, and a unified cloud system matter more than local recording. Confirm current plan terms, recording duration, device coverage, and detection features before buying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: you accept ongoing cloud costs for a polished security ecosystem.

Skip it if: eliminating recurring fees is your main reason for leaving Ring.

7. Lorex: best for existing Lorex and NVR systems

Lorex doorbells suit buyers who already use Lorex cameras, a Home Center, or compatible recording equipment. Lorex promotes local microSD storage and Home Center connectivity, which can make the doorbell part of a more traditional surveillance setup.

Compatibility varies among products and recorders. Check the exact doorbell, Home Center, NVR, storage, and app requirements rather than assuming that every Lorex camera works with every Lorex recorder. The experience may be less intuitive than Ring or Nest, but it can be more appropriate for a homeowner who values local ownership of footage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: you already have Lorex equipment or want a recorder-oriented system.

Skip it if: you want a simple standalone purchase without compatibility research.

8. Logitech Circle View: best for Apple HomeKit Secure Video

Logitech Circle View Doorbell is designed for Apple Home users who want HomeKit Secure Video and iCloud+ rather than a separate vendor cloud. That makes it a focused alternative, not a universal Ring replacement.

The commonly cited Circle View configuration is wired-only. Consumer Reports notes that it requires low-voltage wiring and can ring an existing home chime. Confirm transformer voltage, chime compatibility, Apple hardware, software, and iCloud+ requirements before installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Native Apple Home and HomeKit Secure Video are distinct from a third-party bridge or an unofficial integration. Circle View is a poor fit for Android-first households, renters without suitable wiring, or buyers seeking a battery doorbell.

Choose it if: you already use Apple Home and pay for or plan to use compatible iCloud+ storage.

Skip it if: you need battery power, local NVR recording, or cross-platform flexibility.

9. Wyze: best low-cost entry point

Wyze appeals to buyers who want a lower-cost entry into a broad smart-home ecosystem. It sells multiple doorbell generations and storage approaches, so the exact model matters more than the brand label.

Cam Plus commonly adds cloud history and advanced detection. Consumer Reports has cited an example price of $3 per month for one camera, but plan prices and feature bundles can change. Investigate notification behavior, app reliability, local-storage support, detection features, and whether several cameras would make the subscription less economical.

A low purchase price can be worthwhile for a small installation, but the five-year cost may look different when cloud plans, additional cameras, memory cards, or replacement hardware are included.

Choose it if: upfront price is the primary constraint.

Skip it if: you need predictable professional-grade recording, a mature NVR workflow, or a simple brand-wide feature set.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

10. Ubiquiti UniFi Protect: best advanced local system

Ubiquiti UniFi Protect is aimed at technically capable homeowners and existing UniFi networking customers. Its appeal is local recording within the UniFi Protect environment without a traditional per-camera cloud-storage requirement.

Rank #3

Plus, it supports dual-way audio, allowing real-time video conversations through the monitor or your cell phone. Experience the convenience and peace of mind our camera doorbell brings to your home.

The doorbell is only one part of the system. Depending on the installation, you may need a UniFi console, storage, compatible Protect controller, network equipment, and possibly wired power. That produces a higher upfront cost than a $100–$200 standalone doorbell, even if ongoing cloud fees are lower.

UniFi Protect is a poor fit for a renter or casual buyer who expects a quick battery installation. It is compelling when you already own UniFi equipment or want unified local camera and network management.

Choose it if: you want a serious local system and are comfortable managing networking hardware.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Skip it if: you need a cheap, standalone, battery-powered replacement.

Which alternatives require subscriptions?

The important distinction is no required subscription versus no additional cost. A local-storage doorbell may still require a microSD card, hub, NVR, PoE switch, storage console, or an Apple/Google ecosystem account.

Brand Storage model Subscription role
Google Nest Cloud-first Useful or important for longer history and advanced features; battery model is not 24/7.
Eufy Device, hub, or HomeBase-dependent local options Optional services vary by model.
Reolink microSD, Home Hub, NVR, or local network storage Optional cloud service on some products.
Aqara Chime/hub microSD and supported Apple options Optional features vary by model.
Tapo microSD up to 512GB on applicable current models Tapo Care adds cloud history and services.
Arlo Primarily cloud-centered Important for recorded history and advanced detection.
Lorex microSD, Home Center, or NVR Optional cloud functions vary.
Logitech HomeKit Secure Video through Apple Compatible iCloud+ setup is required for recorded storage.
Wyze Model-dependent local options Cam Plus adds cloud history and advanced detection.
UniFi Protect Local console and storage No traditional per-camera cloud-storage requirement, but hardware costs more.

Best options for renters

Renters should start with battery models, low-impact mounting, removable batteries, included wireless chimes, and theft protection. Strong candidates include the battery versions of Google Nest, Aqara, Tapo, Eufy, Arlo, and Wyze.

Battery doorbells generally cannot provide true 24/7 recording. High visitor traffic, cold weather, weak Wi-Fi, night lighting, and frequent live viewing can reduce battery life. A doorbell that supports optional wiring may become more practical in a permanent home, but existing transformer voltage and chime compatibility must be checked first.

Best options for no-subscription recording

For a no-monthly-fee recording path, begin with Reolink, Tapo, Eufy, Aqara, Lorex, or UniFi Protect. Local recording can occur in different places:

  • On the doorbell: simple, but a thief may take the card with the device.
  • In a chime or hub: more theft-resistant, but adds hardware.
  • On an NVR or Home Hub: best for multiple cameras, but more expensive and technical.
  • In the cloud: easiest remote access and theft recovery, but creates recurring cost and cloud privacy dependence.

Local storage still requires card replacement, backups, secure accounts, firmware updates, and a plan for remote access. It is not automatically private or maintenance-free.

Best options for Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa

Apple Home: Aqara is the strongest broad candidate for Apple Home users, subject to model compatibility. Logitech Circle View is purpose-built for HomeKit Secure Video but is wired and Apple-dependent. Some Eufy models support Apple Home, while Reolink is usually more natural for local/NVR or third-party integrations. Verify Tapo, Wyze, and Arlo model by model. Native Apple Home, HomeKit Secure Video, bridge support, Home Assistant, and Scrypted are different things.

Google Home: Nest is the clearest native choice. Tapo, Eufy, Arlo, Wyze, Reolink, and Lorex may offer Google Assistant or display support, but the depth can range from live viewing to more useful automation and event handling.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Alexa: Several brands support Alexa, but “works with Alexa” may mean only live-view support. Blink is also an Amazon-owned Ring alternative, but it remains cloud- and ecosystem-oriented, so it does not solve every Ring objection.

Battery, wired, PoE, and 24/7 recording

Separate these installation categories before choosing:

  • Battery-only: easiest for renters, but usually event-based and not continuous.
  • Battery plus wiring: flexible, but some features may remain disabled in battery mode.
  • Wired transformer: suitable for more frequent activity and possibly continuous recording.
  • PoE: carries power and data over Ethernet, but requires cabling and compatible equipment.
  • Wired with local storage: the strongest fit for 24/7 recording and outage resilience.

Potential 24/7 candidates include wired or PoE Reolink models, the Tapo D225 when hardwired, compatible Lorex systems, UniFi Protect doorbells paired with the required console and storage, and certain wired Eufy products. Battery Nest and most battery doorbells are not suitable for continuous recording. “Wired” alone is not a guarantee: confirm the exact model, storage destination, recording mode, and any hardware requirements.

Installation checks before purchase

  1. Check whether the mounting location has reliable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and, where supported, 5GHz coverage.
  2. Confirm transformer voltage and VA rating before connecting a wired doorbell.
  3. Verify whether the existing mechanical chime works, needs a bypass, or must be replaced.
  4. Check whether a wireless indoor chime is included.
  5. Confirm whether the battery is removable and whether a spare is available.
  6. For PoE, plan the Ethernet route, injector or switch, console, and weatherproofing.
  7. Check vertical framing at the doorstep, not just the advertised diagonal field of view.

A wide-angle camera can still miss packages if it is mounted too high, blocked by a porch column, aimed into direct sunlight, or positioned where the open door covers the lower frame.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Privacy, security, and outages

Compare cloud versus local processing, encryption claims, two-factor authentication, retention policies, law-enforcement access policies, firmware support, and whether the device works on a local network without the vendor cloud. Manufacturer privacy and encryption statements should be treated as claims rather than proof that a system is absolutely private.

During an internet outage, separate the functions: live view may fail, notifications may be delayed, cloud recording may stop, local recording may continue, the doorbell button may still ring locally, and remote two-way talk may become unavailable. Ask those questions individually for the exact model.

Cloud backup is valuable when a doorbell is stolen. A microSD card inside the doorbell may disappear with it; hub- or NVR-based storage is more resilient. A local system may also lose footage if a card fails, so use suitable storage and backups where the recordings matter.

Five-year ownership cost

Use this formula:

Hardware + required hub or NVR + storage media + (subscription × 60 months) + installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For illustration, a $150 doorbell with a $5 monthly plan adds about $300 in subscription cost over five years, for approximately $450 before tax and installation. A $120 local-storage doorbell may need a $15–$30 card but no storage fee. A UniFi or NVR system can cost considerably more initially while avoiding per-camera cloud storage charges. These are examples, not current vendor prices.

Which Ring alternative should you buy?

  • Best for Google users: Google Nest.
  • Best mainstream no-monthly-fee choices: Eufy or Tapo.
  • Best local/NVR system: Reolink.
  • Best Apple Home choices: Aqara or Logitech, depending on whether you need battery flexibility.
  • Best budget entry: Wyze or Tapo.
  • Best advanced local setup: UniFi Protect.
  • Best existing security-system fit: Lorex for local recording, or Arlo for cloud convenience.

For most buyers, the decisive question is not which brand has the highest resolution. It is whether you want a simple cloud service, a local recorder you manage yourself, a battery installation, or a wired system that can keep recording continuously.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
