鹿島建設のA⁴CSEL（クワッドアクセル）は、建設機械を単に遠隔操縦するのではなく、施工計画に基づいて複数の機械を自律・自動運転させる建設生産システムです。鹿島建設は、熟練オペレーターの操作データ収集から始め、ダム工事でローラー、ブルドーザー、ダンプトラックへと適用範囲を広げました。近年は地形や材料が変化する造成工事、さらに高速道路の本線工事へ展開しています。
A⁴CSELは何をするシステムか
鹿島建設の説明によると、A⁴CSELは汎用建設機械に計測機器や制御コンピューターを搭載し、施工計画と管制室からの作業指示に沿って機械を自律・自動運転する仕組みです。管制室の担当者が一台ずつ操縦するのではなく、計画された作業を機械側が実行し、担当者が複数台の稼働を統括します。鹿島建設は名称を「Automated/Autonomous/Advanced/Accelerated Construction system for Safety, Efficiency, and Liability」と展開しています。鹿島建設のシステム解説

なぜ鹿島建設は施工の自動化に取り組んだのか
鹿島建設が描いたのは、機械を一台ずつ無人化するだけでなく、建設現場の作業を計画・管理し、複数機械を連携させる生産システムへの転換です。鹿島建設の開発史では、2009年に技術研究所のスタッフが開発を始め、まず振動ローラーを対象に熟練オペレーターの操作データを集めたと説明されています。熟練者の操作をデータ化し、自動運転へつなげることが、対象機械を増やす土台になりました。鹿島建設「A⁴CSEL×進化×深化 — 開発の軌跡」

- 移動距離と燃料：鹿島建設のダム向け技術ページは、成瀬ダムで、有人ブルドーザーと比べた移動距離が4分の1となり、敷きならし作業の単位体積当たり燃料消費量が約40～50％減ったと報告しています。同社は、最適化した計画と機械の移動回数削減を理由に挙げています。比較対象は同ページが示す成瀬ダムでの敷きならし作業であり、別の作業や現場に一般化できる数値ではありません。鹿島建設「A⁴CSEL for DAM」
これらは鹿島建設が公表したプロジェクト実績です。確認できる資料では、数値を独立した第三者が測定・監査した統計として示すものは確認できません。
ダムから造成工事へ――変化する地形への対応
ダム工事は反復作業が多く、作業条件や材料が比較的一定であるため、自動化の初期適用先として適していました。一方、造成工事では工事の進行に伴い地形、材料、標高が変わります。同じ走行経路を繰り返すだけでは対応しにくく、作業場所の形状に合わせて計画を調整する必要があります。
