Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Your alarm clock is almost certainly not haunted. An unexpected alarm is usually caused by a second schedule, a sleep or bedtime feature, another device, a recurring setting, a time-zone or daylight-saving mismatch, or a software state that needs resetting.
Before deleting anything, note the exact time, sound, device and message on screen. That evidence can quickly reveal whether you are dealing with a normal alarm, timer, reminder, sleep schedule, smart-home routine or a different clock entirely.

Start with a one-minute diagnosis
- Record the exact time. Is it recurring, or did it follow a countdown?
- Identify the sound. A distinctive tone may belong to a sleep app, reminder or smart speaker rather than the Clock app.
- Read the screen. Look for “Alarm,” “Timer,” “Reminder,” “Bedtime,” “Wake Up” or “Routine.”
- Identify the device. Check the phone, watch, tablet, smart speaker, sunrise lamp and traditional bedside clock.
- Check notification history immediately afterward, where your device provides it.
“Ghost alarm” is a description, not a single technical fault. Treating every unexplained alert as a deleted alarm can send you in the wrong direction.
The fastest general fix
- Disable or delete alarms you do not recognize.
- Temporarily turn off sleep schedules, routines and third-party alarm apps.
- Restart the device.
- Create one test alarm for about five minutes in the future.
- Confirm that it rings and can be dismissed.
- Recreate only the alarms you need, then re-enable other schedules one at a time.
On Android, Google recommends leaving at least five minutes between alarms because alarms set too close together can conflict. See Google’s Android alarm guidance.

- Built-in nightlight gently illuminates a dark room
- Repeating snooze function makes it possible to sleep a little longer
- AC powered with integrated power supply. Batteries may be used as a backup power source to ensure time and alarms are retained in memory for 8 hours (refer to User Manual for details)

If you use an iPhone
Check both alarm systems
Open Clock → Alarms and use Edit to disable or delete unrecognized alarms. Then inspect the separate sleep system: Health → Sleep → Full Schedule & Options. A regular Clock alarm and a Sleep Schedule “Wake Up” alarm are separate, so deleting one does not necessarily remove the other. Apple documents this distinction in its iPhone sleep-schedule guide.
Also check Calendar alerts, Reminders, Shortcuts automations, medication or fitness apps, Apple Watch alarms and other Apple devices that may be audible nearby.
If it is silent or only vibrates
- Make sure the alarm’s sound is not set to None.
- Raise Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone and Alerts.
- Check headphones and StandBy if the sound or vibration seems different.
- Apple says normal alarms should sound even when Silent mode or Do Not Disturb is enabled; StandBy disables alarm haptics. The selected sound and volume still matter.
Restart the iPhone, create one test alarm and update iOS and relevant apps. Avoid erasing the phone or using “Reset All Settings” as an early step. If the problem survives schedule checks, app isolation and a test alarm, contact Apple Support.

If you use Android
Open Clock → Alarm. Select each alarm and check its time, AM/PM setting, repeat days, sound, vibration and any attached Google Assistant Routine. Google confirms that recurring alarms and Assistant Routines can be configured from the Clock app.
Then check the common causes listed in Google’s Android support guidance:
- Alarm volume is high enough.
- The alarm sound is not silent.
- Vibration is enabled if you rely on haptics.
- Clock notifications are enabled.
- Do Not Disturb is not suppressing the alert.
- Battery Saver is not preventing the alarm from sounding. Google identifies Battery Saver as a possible cause, although behavior varies by device.
Menu names differ between Samsung, Pixel and other Android phones. Clear the Clock app’s cache only after recording your alarms; the path varies by manufacturer, and clearing app data can delete saved alarms.

In practical terms, inspect sleep, medication, fitness, task and automation apps before assuming the Clock app is malfunctioning.

Several alerts can sound like an alarm:
- Calendar event or medication reminders
- Timer completion sounds
- Focus, bedtime or task notifications
- Smart-home routines
- Emergency alerts
- A sleep app using a custom tone
- A smart speaker playing a scheduled routine
Temporarily disable likely apps one at a time. If the alert stops, re-enable them individually to identify the source. Check watches, tablets, speakers and family members’ devices as well; sound can travel farther than expected, and shared household routines may run from another account or device.

- Alarm A and Alarm B
- Weekday or weekend modes
- A radio alarm as well as a buzzer alarm
- Snooze or sleep-timer settings
- An auto-set or radio-controlled clock
- A daylight-saving-time switch
- A backup battery that preserved the alarm during a power cut
Exact controls vary by model. Manufacturer manuals such as the HoMedics clock instructions and this digital-clock manual show why there is no universal button sequence for resetting every bedside clock.
- Turn both alarm indicators off.
- Unplug the clock.
- Remove the backup battery if the manual permits it.
- Wait several minutes.
- Install the correct replacement battery.
- Reconnect power and set the time.
- Check the DST or summer-time setting.
- Set one alarm and test it.
If the clock has a stuck button, moisture damage, a flickering display, clicking relay or spontaneous resets, treat it as a hardware fault. Do not open mains-powered equipment. Replace it or contact the manufacturer.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Why an alarm rings at the wrong time
- Incorrect time zone or location
- Manual time adjustment
- Incorrect DST setting
- Automatic network or radio time synchronization
- 12-hour AM/PM confusion
- A recurring alarm crossing a daylight-saving transition
- A phone and connected clock showing different times
- A sleep schedule using a separate time configuration
Correct the time zone and automatic-time settings before recreating the alarm. Avoid manually changing the iPhone’s system time to influence an alarm or app; Apple warns that manual time changes can affect alarms.

Isolate software and synchronization problems
If the alarm returns after deletion, restart and test with only one alarm enabled. Update the operating system, Clock app and sleep or automation apps. If the problem began immediately after an update, record the operating-system and app versions before changing other settings; user reports alone do not prove that an update caused the behavior.
Next, disable third-party alarm and automation apps temporarily. Review devices signed into the same Apple or Google account, shared smart-speaker routines and family devices. If alarms or settings are changing without permission, change the account password, enable two-factor authentication and remove unknown devices. That is a precaution, not proof that an account has been compromised.
Do not start with a factory reset. It creates considerable setup work and will not solve an alarm recreated by another device or cloud-synchronized routine.

If the alert disappears after isolating an app or device, you have found the practical cause. If it continues after checking every schedule, disconnecting other devices, updating, restarting and testing with a single alarm, the next step is manufacturer support or replacement—not repeated random resets.
During troubleshooting, use an independent backup alarm on a different device and, ideally, a different power source. Do not rely on two alarms on the same malfunctioning clock.
Should you replace the clock?
Replacement is optional, not the first fix. Choose according to the source of the problem:
Quick Recap
- Basic offline digital clock: Best when you want physical controls, no account, no app and the fewest synchronization variables. Look for separate alarm indicators, a physical alarm-off switch, battery backup, clear DST controls and an alarm that works without Wi-Fi.
- Loftie Clock: A premium phone-free option with a two-phase alarm, backup battery and no-Wi-Fi mode listed by the manufacturer. Its official page showed $169.99 during research on August 18, 2026; pricing, features and Loftie+ terms should be confirmed at checkout. See Loftie’s official product page.
- Hatch Restore 3: Suited to readers who want light-based waking, sleep sounds and a structured bedtime routine. Hatch’s official page showed $169.99 during research on August 18, 2026, while Hatch+ was listed separately at $4.99 monthly or $49.99 annually. Confirm current pricing and which features require the subscription at Hatch and its Hatch+ information page.
- Phone-free sunrise clock: Compare brightness adjustment, gradual-light duration, an audible backup alarm, physical controls and power-outage behavior. Sunrise light may be less effective in a bright room or for heavy sleepers.
