The xTool D1 Pro is a desktop diode laser engraver and cutter, but it is not one fixed configuration: xTool lists 5W, 10W, and 20W diode modules, plus a 2W 1064nm infrared module. That distinction matters when judging project suitability, accessories, and value. The available evidence supports a configuration-specific buyer’s guide—not a firsthand test: Tom’s Hardware reviewed a 20W kit, while the published specifications and safety information below come from xTool. Current stock and official support can vary by region.

What the xTool D1 Pro is—and why the module matters

xTool describes the D1 Pro as a desktop diode laser cutter and engraver. Its product introduction lists 5W, 10W, and 20W visible-light diode modules and a 2W 1064nm infrared module. These are distinct configurations, not interchangeable descriptions of one machine’s capabilities. The appropriate choice depends on the material and job; the available specifications do not establish a universal cutting or engraving result for every configuration.

xTool’s published product introduction gives configuration-dependent spot specifications and a nominal work area in the approximate 430 × 400 mm range. Because the page includes inconsistent dimensions and configuration tables, confirm the exact machine’s specification and manual rather than treating one measurement as universal. The same page lists USB and Wi-Fi connectivity and compatibility with xTool Creative Space (XCS) and LightBurn. See xTool’s D1 Pro Product Introduction.

Published speed figures are manufacturer claims

xTool’s 2023 product introduction claims a maximum processing speed of 24,000 mm/min in feature text and lists 160 mm/s in its specifications. Those values are mathematically equivalent, but they are stated maxima from the manufacturer—not independent speed measurements or a promise that a particular job will run at that rate.

What the published specifications do—and do not—tell you

Specifications help identify a configuration, but they do not replace project-specific evidence. The supplied material does not establish independent cutting trials, measured accuracy, noise levels, or performance across different materials and thicknesses. Treat xTool’s figures as product claims and look for results tied to the exact module and material before planning a job.

The machine’s approximate work area may suit work that fits within the frame; larger pieces may require the extension accessory. xTool says the extension expands the work area to 432 × 936 mm. It also describes rotary engraving for cylindrical objects. Verify that an extension, rotary, risers, honeycomb working panel, enclosure, or air-assist unit is compatible with the exact D1 Pro configuration and included in the listing you are considering.

Setup and software workflow

xTool’s Quick Start Guide lists package components including frame plates, shaft, laser module, safety goggles, material pack, power adapter, cables, TF card, coupling, screwdriver, and hex key. Package contents can differ between listings or bundles, so use the guide for orientation and confirm what is actually supplied with a used or remaining-stock machine.

  1. Assemble and check the frame. Follow the current Quick Start Guide for the exact model. xTool advises keeping the right and left timing belts at the same tension for proper cutting and engraving.
  2. Position the laser module. The guide explains positioning it with the focal-length setting bar; follow its instructions rather than estimating focus.
  3. Choose the control software. xTool lists XCS and LightBurn as compatible. The guide notes that LightBurn must be purchased separately.
  4. Confirm the computer connection and accessories. The product introduction lists USB and Wi-Fi. Check your intended workflow and any accessory-specific instructions before starting a job.

Tom’s Hardware reported that its reviewed 20W kit arrived with the X-axis module preassembled, belts threaded into the Y-axis channels, and most wiring already done. That describes the particular kit in its review, not a guarantee about every D1 Pro package or secondhand machine. Read Tom’s Hardware’s review of the 20W kit.

Safety: ventilation and eye protection are essential

xTool says laser cutting produces smoke and calls for controlled ventilation; it also warns that intense laser light can harm eyes if viewed directly. The Quick Start Guide lists goggles among the package components. Follow the current official safety instructions for the exact machine, use appropriate eye protection, and plan smoke extraction or ventilation for the work area. A cover or included goggles should not be treated as removing operational risk.

Is the D1 Pro discontinued?

EngraverHQ’s recent review says the D1 series was discontinued effective January 1, 2025 and frames the D1 Pro as a secondhand purchase. The evidence here does not include an official xTool discontinuation announcement, so that date should be treated as a secondary-source report rather than a confirmed statement of current support or availability. Check xTool’s current regional product and support pages before buying, especially if warranty, replacement parts, or service access matters. Read EngraverHQ’s D1 Pro review.

What to check before buying a D1 Pro

Listings may represent different modules, accessory bundles, conditions, and sellers. Check the details in writing rather than assuming a listing title describes a complete, ready-to-use machine.

  • Module: Confirm whether it is the 5W, 10W, or 20W diode module, or the 2W 1064nm infrared module.
  • Core parts: Verify that the laser module, safety goggles, power supply, and required cables are present and in working condition.
  • Accessories: Identify whether air assist, enclosure, honeycomb panel, rotary attachment, extension kit, or risers are included, and confirm compatibility with that unit.
  • Condition and recourse: Check the machine’s condition, the seller’s reputation, and return terms—particularly for a used machine.
  • Workflow: Confirm your computer and preferred software can use the machine as intended; LightBurn is a separate purchase according to xTool’s guide.
  • Availability and support: Check current regional stock and xTool support rather than relying solely on a marketplace listing or secondary report.

Who should consider it?

The D1 Pro may suit a buyer who wants a desktop engraver/cutter, has a defined project and material in mind, and can confirm that the specific module and work area fit that use. An extension may matter for larger work; a rotary attachment is relevant for cylindrical objects; ventilation and air-assist needs depend on the workspace and job. A buyer who needs a verified cutting capacity, turnkey package, or assured current manufacturer support should resolve those specifics before committing.
