There is no verified evidence of a US or global launch, local electrical certification, US pricing, or international warranty support.
What the Xiaomi Mijia S20 is
The S20, listed in Chinese as 米家智能净烟机 S20, is a wall-mounted kitchen extractor designed to capture cooking smoke and oil vapor at the cooking zone. The “smoke purifier” name describes its kitchen exhaust and oil-smoke handling functions; it should not be treated as a replacement for a whole-room air purifier or a building’s required ventilation system.

Xiaomi reported the China launch in late May 2025, with sales beginning at 8 p.m. China time on May 31. The product appears on Xiaomi’s China shopping pages and official JD storefront. The reported regular launch price was ¥2,599; the ¥2,079.20 figure was tied to a temporary Chinese government subsidy and should not be treated as a permanent price.

What the 120,000-RPM claim means
The S20 uses a variable-frequency fan or motor. English-language coverage describes a maximum speed of 120,000 revolutions per minute. However, the retrieved Chinese IT之家 report uses the wording “12万转/小时,” literally “120,000 rotations per hour” in translation. Because of that inconsistency, the safest description is that Xiaomi’s product information promotes a headline speed of up to 120,000 rotations, commonly rendered in English as 120,000 RPM.
Fan speed is not the same as useful extraction performance. RPM does not directly tell a buyer how much air reaches the duct outlet, how well the hood performs under resistance, or how effectively it captures smoke from a pan. Those outcomes also depend on:

- duct diameter and length;
- the number and sharpness of bends;
- external vent termination and backdraft resistance;
- mounting height above the cooktop;
- the position and size of the cooking vessel;
- whether the installation exhausts outdoors or recirculates air; and
- the kitchen’s replacement-air supply.
Accordingly, the 120,000 figure should not be interpreted as making the S20 twelve times more effective than a conventional hood. Standardized airflow, pressure, noise, and capture-efficiency testing would be needed for that comparison.

Airflow and smoke-capture design
Xiaomi promotes a straight-line air inlet producing airflow of up to 12 m/s, maximum static pressure of up to 1,000 Pa, and air movement of up to 11 m3 per minute. These measurements describe different properties:
- Airflow volume indicates how much air the appliance can move.
- Static pressure indicates how well it can maintain airflow against resistance in the duct system.
- Inlet speed describes air velocity at a particular part of the intake, not the complete installed system.
The S20 also uses a front anti-escape curtain and left and right smoke-blocking panels. These are intended to keep cooking emissions within the hood’s capture area. They may be useful when cookware is positioned beneath the hood, but no design can guarantee capture when smoke is generated outside that area or when ducting is poorly installed.
Xiaomi also describes a redesigned air duct intended to reduce noise while maintaining extraction performance. The reported maximum noise rating is 65 dB(A). That is not a silent-operation claim, and the available reports do not establish whether the figure applies only to maximum speed, which measurement method was used, or how the hood compares with competing products.
Oil separation, odors, and cleaning
The S20 is promoted with a no-oil-mesh design, oil-separation efficiency of up to 90%, and odor reduction of up to 95% under normal use. These percentages should be attributed to Xiaomi’s product information rather than treated as independently verified test results.

“No oil mesh” does not mean maintenance-free. Oil can still collect in internal air passages, separators, collection areas, ductwork, the front curtain, and nearby cabinets. The design may reduce the need to remove and wash a conventional filter, but buyers should confirm the cleaning procedure, service intervals, drainage or collection arrangements, and availability of replacement parts before installation. The retrieved launch material does not provide a complete maintenance schedule or detailed service manual.
PM2.5 monitoring is not the same as purification
A built-in PM2.5 sensor is intended to show real-time particulate readings during cooking. That can help users see how cooking affects indoor air, but monitoring and removal are separate functions. The sensor does not itself remove particles, and its readings may be influenced by placement, calibration, steam, the composition of cooking smoke, and the hood’s airflow.
The S20 should therefore be viewed as an exhaust appliance with air-quality monitoring—not as a substitute for proper outdoor ventilation or a separate room air cleaner.

Reported smart features include:
- Mijia app control;
- Xiaoai voice commands;
- Xiaomi smart-home scene automation;
- hood-and-stove linkage;
- automatic start when a compatible gas stove is turned on;
- automatic shutdown after residual smoke has cleared; and
- gesture controls such as waving to operate the hood.
These features are most relevant to users already operating Xiaomi’s Chinese smart-home ecosystem. App support does not establish compatibility with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, or Matter. It also does not establish that the hood can be added to a non-China Mijia account.

Automatic stove linkage may require a compatible Xiaomi or Mijia stove and supported firmware. The available reports do not confirm the required app version, supported regions, language options, firmware requirements, or whether every feature works outside mainland China.

At 895 × 427 × 903 mm and 26 kg, the S20 is a substantial appliance. Before buying or importing one, verify:
- Mounting space: Confirm the available wall or cabinet width, depth, height, clearances, and cooktop alignment.
- Wall strength: A roughly 57-pound appliance must be anchored to suitable structural material using an appropriate mounting method.
- Duct routing: Check the duct diameter, outlet position, total length, bends, exterior termination, and whether local rules permit the proposed installation.
- Exhaust type: Confirm whether the unit and kitchen support outdoor ducted exhaust. Do not assume a Chinese-market hood is configured for local recirculation requirements.
- Electrical supply: Verify voltage, frequency, plug, wiring, grounding, and required circuit protection. The retrieved material does not confirm compatibility with US power standards.
- Building and fire requirements: Local codes may govern clearances, make-up air, gas appliances, grease-laden exhaust, and professional installation.
- Service access: Plan how internal components, oil-collection areas, controls, and duct connections will be reached for cleaning or repair.
Correct ductwork matters as much as the published pressure and airflow numbers. Excessive bends, undersized ducts, leaks, or an obstructed termination can produce weak capture, more noise, and lingering odors even when the hood itself is operating normally.

China availability and international buying risks
The evidence establishes a China launch and Chinese retail availability. It does not establish a US or worldwide release. No verified US price, US retailer listing, US electrical certification, international warranty, local service network, or international shipping policy was provided in the launch material.

Importing the S20 can create several failure points:
- the Mijia app may not discover hardware assigned to another region;
- Xiaoai voice features may depend on Chinese-language or mainland-China services;
- stove linkage may fail without a compatible Mijia appliance;
- the appliance may require electrical adaptation that is unsuitable or unsafe without qualified advice;
- replacement parts and technical documentation may be difficult to obtain; and
- warranty claims, returns, installation damage, taxes, and shipping may fall outside local consumer protections.
The launch price is historical. Converting ¥2,599 into a current dollar price would require a stated exchange-rate date and would still omit shipping, taxes, installation, electrical work, and warranty risk.
Who should consider the S20?
The S20 is most plausible for a China-based buyer who has a compatible kitchen, can arrange compliant local installation, and already uses Xiaomi or Mijia appliances. Its combination of high published pressure and airflow figures, smoke-containment panels, PM2.5 monitoring, and automation could be attractive in that context.
A buyer outside China should be more cautious. A locally supported smart range hood with confirmed electrical certification, code compliance, installation service, replacement parts, and warranty coverage is usually the safer construction decision. If PM2.5 visibility is the priority, another practical approach is a conventional ducted hood paired with a separately supported indoor-air monitor. Xiaomi’s JD catalog also lists the Mijia Smart Smoke Purifier P2, but the available evidence does not provide enough comparable specifications to rank it against the S20.
Verdict
The Xiaomi Mijia Smart Smoke Purifier S20 is an interesting China-market smart range hood with ambitious published specifications and extensive Mijia automation. Its 120,000-RPM headline is not, by itself, proof of superior installed extraction, and its oil, odor, airflow, and noise figures remain manufacturer or listing claims.
For international construction or renovation projects, the decisive questions are less about the headline motor speed and more about duct compatibility, electrical standards, mounting, maintenance access, local code, smart-home region support, and warranty. Until Xiaomi confirms broader availability and local compliance, the S20 is a China-focused product rather than a straightforward recommendation for US buyers.
