A hot-water dispenser keeps a reservoir of water at a set temperature and dispenses measured volumes, which is a different use pattern from a kettle that heats a single batch on demand. Readers searching for a kettle will find the same appliance, but the product page and launch coverage both use “dispenser,” so that is the name to use when searching or comparing listings.
Xiaomi also has a separate, newer model. A Pro 5L version was reported in July 2026, and it is covered in its own section below. Many listings and articles blur the two, so confirm the exact model name before comparing prices.

The November 2023 report is the basis for the headline’s “widely available” wording. That language describes the 2023 China launch. It does not describe a 2026 check of retail shelves or online listings, and the sources used here do not show what stock looks like today.

Everything in this section comes from Xiaomi’s own product page or its materials description. These are manufacturer claims. None of them is an independent test result, and the page does not name a test laboratory.

- Boil time: 18 minutes to bring 5L to a boil. Xiaomi labels this as manufacturer-tested and says actual results may vary with environmental and other objective factors.
- Temperature range: selectable from 40°C to 90°C.
- Dispensing volumes: three settings of approximately 200 mL, 300 mL, and 500 mL.
- Control: temperature and dispensing settings through the Xiaomi Home app.
- Interior and water-contact parts: glass interior, 316 stainless-steel heating plate, rigid non-silicone water pipe, PP outer shell, and a hollow insulating layer.
- Additional functions: a one-touch extended-boil function that Xiaomi describes as chlorine removal, altitude-adaptive boiling-point detection, and a night light.
The chlorine-removal and altitude claims describe what Xiaomi says the appliance does. The page does not provide test data showing water-quality results, and it should not be read as a statement about purification, drinking-water safety, or suitability for infants.

Why the $42 figure needs a date
The headline converts the 299-yuan launch price into US dollars. That conversion is only as current as the exchange rate on the day it is calculated, and the launch price itself belongs to late 2023. A reader in October 2026 who wants a price in dollars should take the yuan figure from a current listing in the seller’s market and convert it on the day of purchase. The $42 number should be treated as a historical reference, not a price a buyer can expect now.
The original 5L and the 2026 Pro 5L
The two models are sold under similar names, but the reports describe different parts and prices. Where a value is not stated in the sources used here, the table says so rather than assuming it is the same.

The liner difference is the most concrete distinction in the sources. Both materials are described by their makers or by launch coverage, not by independent safety or materials testing, so the table reports them as claims. A buyer who cares about the water-contact material should check the specification sheet for the exact model they are buying.

- Match the exact model. Check whether the listing says “Hot Water Dispenser 5L” or “Pro 5L,” and compare the liner and water-circulation descriptions against the table above.
- Check the market. The sources cover the China launch. Ask the seller which region the unit is built for and whether it is sold with a plug suited to your country.
- Check the electrical rating. The page lists 1600W, but the sources do not state the rated voltage for every market. Confirm the voltage on the rating label or the listing before connecting it to a supply.
