Verdict: The Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080P remains a useful, inexpensive indoor monitor when bought at a substantial discount. It provides 1080p video, motorized horizontal rotation, infrared night vision, motion alerts, two-way audio, and local microSD or NAS recording without requiring a cloud subscription. However, it is an older model with regional specification inconsistencies, 2.4GHz-only Wi-Fi in the cited documentation, no physical privacy shutter, and less detail and storage capacity than newer Xiaomi cameras.
This review covers the Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080P, model MJSXJ02CM. It should not be confused with Xiaomi’s newer 2K, C200, or C300 cameras.

What is the Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080P?
This is a wired indoor Wi-Fi security camera designed for basic room monitoring. Its motorized head pans horizontally, while the lens tilts vertically, allowing you to reposition the view through the Xiaomi Home app. It is suitable for checking a room, pet, child, or elderly relative, but it is not an outdoor surveillance camera or a professional security system.

The camera is powered by a 5V/2A adapter rather than a battery. It can sit on a table or be wall- or ceiling-mounted, including in an inverted position. The app is used for live viewing, alerts, recording settings, sharing, and privacy schedules.

Official identification matters because Xiaomi has sold several similarly named products. The cited manual identifies this version as MJSXJ02CM. Confirm that model number, the intended regional market, the Xiaomi Home app region, and the seller’s warranty before buying an imported unit.

Xiaomi’s official pages are inconsistent about vertical coverage, listing 96° on one page and 108° on another. The manual gives a 110° lens angle, which is an optical specification rather than the same thing as motorized tilt. Storage documentation also varies between 32GB and 64GB. Treat the exact regional documentation as authoritative.

“360°” primarily describes horizontal rotation. The camera cannot see in every direction simultaneously, see through walls, or necessarily cover the space directly above and below it. A single rotating camera may also be facing away when an event occurs.
That makes it effective for general awareness in one room, but less suitable for entrances, corridors, or situations where every angle must be recorded continuously. Multiple fixed cameras can provide more dependable overlapping coverage.

Conveniently view live footage using voice commands through compatible Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant devices.
Video quality and night vision
At 1080p, the camera can show who is in a room and what a pet is doing, particularly in good light. It is less convincing for identifying a distant face, reading small text, or preserving forensic detail. Digital zoom cannot recover detail that the sensor did not capture.
Xiaomi lists WDR support for difficult lighting and says H.265 can reduce bandwidth or storage use compared with H.264 under comparable conditions. That is a codec-efficiency claim, not a guarantee that every recording will be half the size. Backlighting, room layout, movement, and network conditions will affect results.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Night monitoring uses 940nm infrared LEDs and is generally monochrome when infrared mode is active. Performance depends on room size, reflective surfaces, and available light. Motion can also be missed while the camera is pointed elsewhere or while a rotating view is repositioning.
Recording, local storage, and subscriptions
Basic local recording does not inherently require a cloud subscription. Insert a compatible microSD card and configure recording in the Xiaomi Home app. A card is an additional purchase, however, so “subscription-free” does not mean completely cost-free.
microSD recording
Use a reputable Class 10 card and format it through the camera or app if prompted. Xiaomi’s documentation conflicts: the current global product page lists up to 32GB, while the manual, FAQ, and some regional pages list 16GB–64GB. Verify the limit for the precise model and market rather than assuming a larger card will work.

Xiaomi’s storage and network FAQ provides the relevant compatibility requirements.
Continuous recording versus motion clips
Live viewing, continuous local recording, motion-triggered clips, and cloud event storage are different functions. Motion alerts may save short clips with gaps between them; they are not equivalent to uninterrupted 24/7 evidence.
Xiaomi’s current FAQ describes a 9-second motion recording with a five-minute interval in one section. The 1080p product page describes approximately 10-second clips and a possible trigger interval of three to 30 minutes. These differences appear to reflect product, region, or service-version variation. Check the options shown in your app.
NAS storage
NAS backup is available, but it is not plug-and-play. Xiaomi lists these prerequisites:
- A microSD card must already be inserted.
- The NAS or storage device must be on the same local network.
- The NAS must support SMB.
- A Mi Router requires its Samba plug-in to be enabled.
Cloud storage
Xiaomi now documents Home Secure cloud services, including seven-day and 30-day rolling options in supported markets. The global 1080p product page also advertises seven-day rolling storage for motion-triggered clips. Availability, trial terms, pricing, server region, and supported features vary by country, account, app version, and camera generation. Do not assume a universally free cloud plan.

Cloud storage can preserve footage if the camera or microSD card is stolen, but retention is rolling and paid plans may renew automatically. Local storage is cheaper for routine monitoring; cloud backup is more useful when protecting footage from physical loss.
Review Xiaomi Home Secure’s current service information.
App, alerts, and two-way audio
Setup uses the Mi Home/Xiaomi Home app. Once connected, you can view the live feed, reposition the camera, configure motion notifications, review recordings, and use two-way talkback. Xiaomi also describes AI human detection intended to reduce false alerts, but this should not be confused with advanced object recognition, facial recognition, or professional-grade detection.
Alert accuracy and delay depend on lighting, movement, camera position, network quality, and app settings. A rotating camera remains limited by what it is currently viewing. Xiaomi’s product page says up to three devices can view the camera simultaneously, although access and controls may differ between shared accounts.
Setup requirements and pairing problems
The official setup path is:
- Install the Mi Home/Xiaomi Home app.
- Power on the camera.
- Add or search for the camera in the app.
- Follow the pairing instructions.
- Connect it to a compatible 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Insert and format a microSD card if required.
- Configure recording, motion detection, notifications, sharing, and sleep schedules.
The cited FAQ specifies 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, WPA/WPA2 encryption, DHCP, and public internet access. The manual lists Android 4.4+ and iOS 9.0+, but those old minimums do not guarantee that every current app version will support every old device indefinitely.

If pairing fails:
- Connect the phone to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi; temporarily disable band steering or create a separate 2.4GHz network if necessary.
- Confirm WPA/WPA2 compatibility and that DHCP is enabled.
- Move the camera close to the router during setup.
- Check that the app’s selected region matches the camera’s intended market.
- Reset the camera if it was previously linked to another account.
- Update the app, then remove and re-add the camera if it remains offline after an account or router change.
Older reviews reported unreliable QR-code setup. That is evidence about an earlier unit and app, not proof that every current installation will fail.
Privacy and security
Xiaomi lists encrypted data transmission and software sleep or hibernate controls. It also describes encrypted cloud storage. These are manufacturer claims, not an independent security audit.
The cited sources do not document a physical privacy shutter. Sleep mode is software-controlled and is not the same as blocking the lens or disconnecting power. Avoid bedrooms, bathrooms, and other highly private spaces unless everyone in the household accepts that limitation. Use scheduled sleep periods, a strong unique Xiaomi account password, and local storage when minimizing cloud exposure is important.

This is an indoor camera. Xiaomi warns against humid locations and water exposure, and the cited material provides no outdoor weather-resistance rating. The listed operating temperature does not establish outdoor suitability. Do not install it where rain, condensation, or washdown could reach the camera or power supply.
How it compares with newer Xiaomi cameras
| Camera | Why consider it | Main advantage over the older 1080p model |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080P | Lowest-cost route into Xiaomi’s indoor pan-and-tilt ecosystem | Local microSD/NAS recording at a discount |
| Xiaomi Smart Camera C200 | Newer 1080p Xiaomi option | Human tracking and support for up to 256GB microSD, subject to region |
| Xiaomi Smart Camera C300 | More capable current Xiaomi option | 1296p/2K-class video, up to 256GB microSD, and newer security-related claims |
The C200 is the more natural replacement when the price difference is small and 1080p is sufficient. The C300 is more compelling when higher resolution and larger storage matter. Regional availability and pricing should be checked before treating either as the automatic choice.
Who should buy it?
It makes sense when you need:
- A cheap indoor camera for general room awareness.
- Motorized pan-and-tilt viewing.
- Infrared night monitoring and two-way audio.
- Local microSD recording without mandatory cloud storage.
- A camera that integrates with an existing Xiaomi Home setup.
Choose something else when you need:
- Outdoor or weather-resistant installation.
- Battery power.
- 5GHz Wi-Fi.
- A physical privacy shutter.
- Reliable professional monitoring or uninterrupted evidentiary coverage.
- High-resolution identification detail.
- Predictable cross-region support and long-term software certainty.
Final verdict
The Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080P is still a functional basic indoor monitor, not an obsolete curiosity. Its strongest features are affordable pan-and-tilt coverage, night vision, two-way audio, and the ability to record locally through microSD or NAS without making cloud storage mandatory.
Its weaknesses matter more in 2026: 1080p is modest, the camera sees only one direction at a time, the cited specifications disagree about storage and vertical movement, the app and cloud experience can vary by region, and there is no documented physical privacy shutter. Buy the MJSXJ02CM only when it is meaningfully cheaper than newer Xiaomi options and the seller offers a dependable return or warranty path. For most new purchases, the C200 or C300 is the safer current recommendation.
