It launched on June 3, 2025, and remains Wyze’s current camera-equipped smart-bulb product—not the company’s newest product overall.
For homeowners with a compatible outdoor or semi-outdoor fixture, it can add lighting, motion alerts, color night vision, and local recording without installing a separate camera. But it is not battery-powered, does not provide motorized 360-degree coverage, and is unsuitable for enclosed fixtures, dimmers, timers, or direct water exposure.

What is the Wyze Bulb Cam?
The Wyze Bulb Cam is an integrated light-and-camera device rather than a normal smart bulb with an optional camera accessory. The camera and LED share one screw-in housing, so a single powered socket provides both illumination and surveillance.

The wide 160-degree view is useful for covering a porch, walkway, driveway entrance, or other broad area. It should not be confused with a motorized pan-and-tilt camera: the Bulb Cam’s viewing angle is adjusted manually, and the camera does not mechanically rotate through 360 degrees. How the bulb and camera work together
The LED can be controlled in the Wyze app and used with manual controls, schedules, ambient-light activation, motion-activated lighting, and Wyze automations. Wyze also says one Bulb Cam can be paired with up to five Accessory Light Bulbs for grouped lighting. Those accessory bulbs are lights, not additional cameras.
The light can illuminate a walkway and may deter activity, while the camera provides live video, motion notifications, and recording options. Because both functions use the same socket, turning off the wall switch will cut power to the entire device. That means the camera will not continue monitoring while the fixture is switched off.
Installation restrictions matter
“Turn any light fixture into a security camera” is useful marketing shorthand, but the fixture must meet specific requirements. Before buying, confirm all of the following:
- It uses a standard E26 socket.
- It is not controlled by a dimmer.
- It is not controlled by a timer.
- It is not a totally enclosed luminaire.
- The device will not be directly exposed to water.
- The circuit is not intended for emergency lighting.
- The fixture can safely support the extra weight, particularly if it is a free-standing portable lamp.
- The wall switch can remain on whenever surveillance is required.
Switch off power before installation. Remove the existing bulb, screw the Bulb Cam fully into the socket, restore power, and then complete setup in the Wyze app. Wyze’s setup guide directs users to tap +, choose Device > Cameras > Wyze Bulb Cam, and follow the on-screen instructions.
The camera can use Bluetooth during setup. If it does not enter pairing mode, Wyze says the setup button beneath the camera can be used to reset it before repeating the app setup process.
Status-light guide
- Solid red: powered on and initializing.
- Flashing red: ready to connect.
- Flashing red and blue: connection in progress.
- Flashing blue: connected and completing setup.
- Solid blue: operating normally.
- Solid purple: firmware updating.
Storage and subscriptions
A subscription is not required for the basic product. Wyze advertises local video storage through the built-in microSD slot, but the card is not included. A compatible card is therefore an additional purchase if you want local recordings or 24/7 local recording.
It is important to separate the hardware’s local-storage capability from Wyze’s cloud features:

- Basic use: live viewing, motion notifications, and local microSD recording are the central subscription-free proposition, subject to Wyze’s current software and feature rules.
- Local continuous recording: requires a compatible microSD card, with capacity depending on resolution, recording mode, and card size.
- Cloud and AI features: Wyze markets features such as descriptive alerts and unlimited full-length recordings through Cam Unlimited Pro or applicable plans.
Do not treat “no subscription” as meaning that every cloud-history or artificial-intelligence feature is included. Remote viewing, notifications, and app access also depend on the camera’s network connection and Wyze’s service operation. Local storage may preserve footage during a network outage, but it does not make the entire system cloud-independent.
Price and value
On August 18, 2026, Wyze’s direct product page showed a regular price signal of $49.98 and a promotional sale price of $39.98. Promotions and availability can change, so treat those figures as date-specific rather than permanent pricing. Check the official product page before purchasing.
Wyze’s Accessory Light Bulb was listed at $16.98 on the related product page. It expands grouped lighting but does not expand camera coverage. A microSD card is also sold separately; the exact card, capacity, compatibility, and recording duration should be checked before purchase.

Who should buy the Bulb Cam?
It is a good fit if you:
- Already have a powered E26 outdoor or semi-outdoor fixture.
- Want lighting and video from one installation point.
- Prefer a broad view over a narrowly aimed camera.
- Want local recording without making a cloud subscription mandatory.
- Are already using Wyze devices or the Wyze app.
- Want a less conspicuous alternative to a conventional camera mounted beside a light.
Choose something else if you:
- Need battery operation or a separate camera power cable.
- Cannot leave the wall switch on.
- Have a fully enclosed fixture, dimmer, timer, or water-exposed location.
- Need motorized pan and tilt.
- Want much brighter illumination than an 800-lumen bulb.
- Need professional weatherproofing, wired Ethernet, or a fully local, cloud-independent ecosystem.
- Want the light and camera to be independently replaceable.
The last point is a practical design trade-off: because the bulb and camera are integrated, replacing one component may mean replacing the combined device. Wyze’s product materials do not establish a separate replacement policy for either component.

Troubleshooting common problems
The camera goes offline when the light is switched off
That is expected for a socket-powered device. Leave the circuit energized if you need continuous camera availability, and make sure the fixture is not being controlled by a timer or dimmer.
Setup will not complete
- Confirm the wall switch is on and the socket is E26.
- Remove dimmers and timers from the circuit.
- Check the Wyze app and firmware status.
- Use the setup button to reset the camera, then repeat the official app setup path.
- If the connection is weak, temporarily move the camera closer to the Wi-Fi router as a general troubleshooting step.
The view is poorly aimed
Use the camera section’s manual extension, rotation, and tilt. Also check whether the fixture, shade, nearby wall, glass, or another reflective surface obstructs the lens or creates glare. A wide field of view does not guarantee useful detail at every distant edge of the scene.
There is no continuous local recording
Install a compatible microSD card; it is not included with the Bulb Cam. Recording capacity varies with card size, resolution, and recording mode.

Do not install the Bulb Cam where it is directly exposed to water. “Outdoor security solution” does not mean unrestricted installation in every open-air location. Choose a fixture that provides suitable protection without enclosing the device completely.
Privacy and placement
A camera mounted above a doorway or outside a building can capture neighboring property, shared walkways, or public areas. Aim it toward the area you need to monitor, avoid private spaces such as neighboring windows, and follow applicable local law, building rules, and community requirements. The Bulb Cam is a consumer smart-home camera, not a professionally monitored alarm system.
Verdict
The Wyze Bulb Cam is more than a novelty, but its usefulness depends heavily on the fixture. It is a clever, relatively simple solution for a powered E26 location where you want a broad 2K view, modest security lighting, color night vision, and optional local recording from one socket.
It is not a universal replacement for a floodlight camera, a motorized pan-and-tilt camera, or a battery-powered camera. If the wall switch may be turned off, the fixture is enclosed or water-exposed, or you need independent camera placement and brighter lighting, a conventional camera or separate camera-and-bulb setup is the better design.
