Wyze Bulb Cam is a 2-in-1 outdoor camera and LED bulb that screws into a standard E26 socket. It combines 2K video, a wide-angle view, color night vision, two-way audio, a siren, and a dimmable 800-lumen light without requiring a separate camera power cable.
The important qualification is that it is socket-powered, not battery-powered: the fixture must supply continuous 120V power. If someone turns off the wall switch, timer, pull chain, or smart-switch automation, both the light and camera go offline. Wyze launched the product on June 3, 2025; it is now a current product option rather than a new August 2026 release.

Quick verdict
The Wyze Bulb Cam is a practical retrofit for an open, continuously powered E26 fixture covering a porch, side door, garage exterior, deck, or small yard. It is especially useful where running a separate camera cable would be difficult.

It is a poor choice for an enclosed or glass-covered fixture, a socket that is regularly switched off, a location exposed directly to water, or an area that needs floodlight-level brightness. Buyers should also decide whether local microSD recording is enough or whether Wyze’s paid cloud and AI features justify an ongoing subscription.

What the Wyze Bulb Cam is
The Bulb Cam replaces a conventional bulb in a standard E26 socket while adding a fixed security camera. Its camera arm can be manually extended, rotated, panned, and tilted. The telescoping section extends by approximately 3 centimeters, and Wyze recommends positioning the lens beyond the lower edge of the fixture for the clearest view and more reliable motion detection.
The product connects to Wi-Fi and uses Bluetooth-assisted setup. It includes a microSD card slot for local recording, while cloud recordings and enhanced detection features are tied to Wyze’s service plans. It is designed for outdoor-oriented locations, but its installation restrictions matter as much as its IP65 rating.

Installation: simple mechanically, but not universally compatible
Installing the Bulb Cam is similar to replacing a bulb, but it remains a mains-voltage installation. Turn off the light switch and, where appropriate, the circuit breaker before removing the existing bulb. Allow the bulb to cool, then verify the fixture uses a standard E26 socket.
- Switch off power before handling the fixture.
- Remove the existing bulb.
- Screw the Bulb Cam fully into the E26 socket.
- Adjust the camera arm so the lens clears the fixture.
- Restore power.
- Install the Wyze app and sign in or create an account.
- Tap +, then choose Device > Cameras > Wyze Bulb Cam.
- Follow the Bluetooth-assisted pairing instructions and select the home’s 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
If the camera does not announce that it is ready to connect, press the SETUP button beneath the camera and restart the process. Wyze’s installation and safety instructions should be checked before fitting it.
Fixture checklist
The socket alone is not enough. Before buying, confirm that the installation location:
- Uses a standard E26 socket.
- Supplies continuous 120V AC power.
- Has enough clearance for the camera lens and adjustable arm.
- Is not a totally enclosed luminaire.
- Does not use a standard incandescent dimmer or timer.
- Can safely support a device weighing approximately 13.5 ounces.
- Does not expose the product directly to water spray.
Do not interpret IP65 as permission to install the Bulb Cam anywhere outdoors. IP65 indicates a level of dust and water resistance, but Wyze’s instructions still warn against direct water exposure and enclosed fixtures. Glass covers, narrow cages, and decorative housings can create reflections, glare, poor night imagery, and motion-detection problems.
Because the device is heavier than a normal LED bulb, a loose, damaged, or poorly supported socket should not be used. If you are uncertain about the socket, wiring, weather protection, or fixture support, consult a qualified electrician.

The most important limitation: the switch must stay on
The Bulb Cam has no battery backup. Its light and camera both depend on power from the E26 socket. Turning off the wall switch, pull chain, timer, occupancy sensor, or smart-switch automation takes the camera offline as well as turning off the light.
That makes the power arrangement more consequential than it would be with an ordinary smart bulb. A person may assume the property is being monitored when the camera is actually disconnected. Use a fixture with always-on power where possible, control the light in the Wyze app, and place the included “Do not turn off” sticker near the switch.
Light output: useful illumination, not a floodlight
The integrated LED produces up to 800 lumens at a warm 3000K color temperature and can be dimmed in the Wyze app. That is suitable for a doorway, walkway, porch, or small outdoor area.
It is not equivalent to a dedicated floodlight. Wyze’s comparison material lists the Bulb Cam at up to 800 lumens versus up to 2,800 lumens for the Wyze Floodlight v2. For a driveway, broad backyard, or large yard, the floodlight design is the more appropriate tool.
Subscription and local recording
A subscription is not required for setup, live streaming, basic app access, or local recording. A compatible microSD card, sold separately, can support 24/7 local recording up to 256GB.
Wyze’s paid plans add cloud event recordings and enhanced detections. The U.S. service-plan page listed the following prices when checked:

- Cam Unlimited: $9.99 per month for all cameras.
- Cam Unlimited Pro: $19.99 per month for all cameras.
Cam Plus includes 14-day cloud event recordings and person, vehicle, package, and pet detections. Higher plans add features such as multi-camera coverage, familiar-face detection, descriptive alerts, AI video search, and, on the Pro plan, emergency dispatch. See Wyze’s current service-plan page for features, trials, taxes, and current pricing.
At $2.99 per month, Cam Plus adds approximately $35.88 per year before taxes or plan changes. That recurring cost is easy to overlook when the hardware price is around $50.
Local recording avoids a mandatory cloud fee, but it has trade-offs. If the camera is stolen, the microSD card may disappear with it. A card is also a consumable storage device that may eventually need replacement. Cloud storage costs more but can preserve event footage after physical theft. Local recording should not be assumed to provide the same AI alerts or cloud backup as Cam Plus.

The Bulb Cam is compatible with Cam Plus, Cam Unlimited, and Cam Unlimited Pro, but Wyze lists it as not compatible with Wyze Home Monitoring. It is a camera and light, not a professionally monitored alarm-system component.

The camera supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, not 5GHz. The lower-frequency band can provide better range through walls, but it may also be congested in apartment buildings and dense neighborhoods. Check signal strength at the actual fixture rather than beside the router.
The wide view is useful for entrances and small outdoor spaces, but the camera does not give you the independent positioning of a separate camera and light. A camera angle that covers the doorway may not illuminate the same area optimally, and a preferred light direction may leave part of the scene outside the camera’s best view.
Optional synchronized bulbs
One Bulb Cam can automatically connect and synchronize lighting with up to five Wyze Accessory Bulbs, sold separately. This can extend coordinated lighting to other fixtures, but the accessory bulbs do not add cameras. The Bulb Cam remains the only camera-equipped device.
Who should buy it?
It is a strong fit when:
- You already have an open, powered E26 fixture in the location you want to monitor.
- Running a separate camera cable would be difficult.
- The lens can extend beyond the fixture without glass or housing obstruction.
- You want a wide view rather than optical zoom or motorized tracking.
- You want light and surveillance in one device.
- You are comfortable using the Wyze app and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
- Local microSD recording is sufficient, or you accept a Wyze subscription.
Choose something else when:
- The light switch is routinely turned off.
- The fixture is enclosed, narrow, glass-covered, or exposed to direct water.
- You need bright illumination across a driveway or large yard.
- The location has weak or congested 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
- You need battery operation or an off-grid installation.
- You require a professionally monitored alarm service.
- The fixture cannot safely support the Bulb Cam’s additional weight.
- You want local-only operation without dependence on a vendor account or app.
How it compares with alternatives
| Option | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Wyze Bulb Cam | Adding camera coverage to an existing suitable E26 light socket | Camera and light lose power together; only 800 lumens |
| Wyze Cam Floodlight v2 | Driveways, yards, and broad-area illumination | Hardwired installation is more involved; plug-in mounting is available from Wyze |
| Wyze Lamp Socket plus camera | Owners of a compatible Wyze camera who want socket-based power | Requires a separate camera and provides less of an all-in-one installation |
| Conventional Wyze camera | Lower-profile camera placement where lighting already exists | Does not replace or control the light fixture |
| Separate camera and smart bulb | Independent aiming, brightness, replacement, and upgrade choices | More devices, installation work, and potentially more apps |
The Wyze Cam Floodlight v2 provides 2K video, up to 2,800 lumens, 270-degree PIR motion detection, a 105dB siren, and microSD recording up to 256GB. It is the better fit when illumination and deterrence over a large area matter more than socket-level simplicity.
The Wyze Lamp Socket is more modular for someone who already owns a compatible camera. A separate camera and smart bulb offer the greatest flexibility because each can be aimed, replaced, or upgraded independently.
Bottom line
The Wyze Bulb Cam solves a specific installation problem well: it adds a camera and useful pathway or doorway lighting where a continuously powered, open E26 fixture already exists. Its roughly $50 hardware price and local-recording option make it attractive for budget-conscious users.
Buy it for a porch, side entrance, garage exterior, or small yard when the fixture provides uninterrupted power and clear lens clearance. Choose a floodlight camera for broad, bright illumination; choose separate devices for maximum flexibility; and avoid the Bulb Cam where the switch is regularly turned off, the housing is enclosed, or the location receives direct water exposure.
