Wyze’s Bulb Cam is a real camera-and-light combination, not an ordinary smart bulb with a hidden camera. It screws into a standard E26 socket, adds a 2K security camera below the bulb, and was listed by Wyze at $49.98 for one unit when checked on August 18, 2026. That makes it an appealing low-cost option—but only if your fixture is open, covered, compatible, and positioned so the camera can see beyond its housing.
The best use case is a covered porch, soffit, side entrance, or similar location with reliable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. It is a poor substitute for a dedicated floodlight camera, a battery camera, or a conventional camera that can be mounted independently of a light socket.

What is the Wyze Bulb Cam?
Announced on June 3, 2025, the Wyze Bulb Cam combines an adjustable LED bulb with a security camera in one screw-in device. The camera sits on a manually extendable stem that can be rotated and tilted, allowing it to look below a porch light or sconce rather than directly into the fixture.

- 2K video at 2304 × 1296 resolution
- A 166-degree diagonal field of view, with 144 degrees horizontal and 82.5 degrees vertical
- Color night vision and four 850nm infrared LEDs
- A dimmable, warm-white 800-lumen LED bulb at 3000K
- Two-way audio and a 95dB siren measured at four inches
- Local recording through a separately purchased microSD card
- IP65-rated construction for qualifying indoor and outdoor installations
Wyze’s launch material describes the view as 160 degrees. Its more detailed specification gives the precise measurements above; the difference reflects the way the viewing angle is being presented rather than two different camera models. Wyze’s introduction and technical specifications provide the full details.

Is it really only $50?
Broadly, yes. Wyze’s US product page listed the one-pack at $49.98 when checked on August 18, 2026. A two-pack was shown at $99.96, while a three-pack was $134.99, or $44.99 per camera. The product page also showed availability and 30-day returns at that time.
That is the hardware price, not necessarily the complete ownership cost. You may also need:
- A compatible microSD card, sold separately
- A Cam Plus subscription if you want Wyze’s cloud and AI features
- Accessory bulbs if you want multiple lights synchronized with the Bulb Cam
- Applicable taxes and shipping
Prices and promotions can change, so treat $49.98 as a dated price rather than a permanent MSRP. Check the official Wyze product page before buying.
What you get without a subscription
A subscription is not required for basic operation, live viewing, or local recording. Wyze says the Bulb Cam can record continuously to a microSD card of up to 256GB, with the card installed separately.
However, “no subscription required” does not mean every feature is free. Wyze promotes Cam Plus for cloud history, AI detection, full-length recordings, and back-to-back event recording. As of August 2026, Wyze listed Cam Plus at $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year for US customers. Cam Unlimited was listed at $9.99 per month for multiple Wyze cameras. See Wyze’s current pricing FAQ for plan details.
The practical choice is straightforward: use a microSD card if you prefer local storage and can manage it yourself; pay for Cam Plus if cloud history and Wyze’s AI-driven alerts matter more to you. The official product material does not establish how much 2K footage a 256GB card stores, whether every local-recording function remains available during an internet outage, or whether recordings can always be accessed remotely. Those details should not be assumed.
Installation: check the fixture before ordering
The unusual design is also the product’s biggest limitation. An E26 base only tells you that the screw fitting is compatible. It does not guarantee that the entire nine-inch-long device will fit or that the camera will have a usable view.

Hardware requirements
- Switch off power at the wall or breaker before removing the existing bulb.
- Confirm that the socket is a standard E26 socket.
- Screw the Bulb Cam fully into the socket.
- Extend and aim the camera so the lens projects below the bottom edge of the fixture.
- Do not use it with a dimmer or timer.
- Do not install it in a totally enclosed luminaire.
Wyze warns that looking through glass or fixture housing can create reflections, reduce image quality, and interfere with motion detection. A closed glass globe is therefore not a minor compromise; it may make the camera unsuitable for the installation.
App setup
- Install the Wyze app and sign in or create an account.
- Tap +.
- Select Device > Cameras > Wyze Bulb Cam.
- Follow the in-app instructions.
Bluetooth 4.2 assists with setup, after which the camera connects to a 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi network. It does not support a 5GHz-only network.
If setup fails, first confirm that the socket has power, the phone is using a compatible 2.4GHz network, and no dimmer or timer is controlling the fixture. If the camera does not announce that it is ready to connect, use the SETUP button beneath the camera to restart or reset the setup process.
Outdoor use is conditional
Wyze lists the Bulb Cam for indoor and outdoor use and gives it an IP65 rating. That does not mean it belongs in any exposed outdoor socket. The quick-start guidance says not to use it where it is directly exposed to water and not to install it in a totally enclosed fixture.

Questionable locations include: an exposed socket in driving rain, a sealed glass globe, a fully enclosed outdoor luminaire, or any fixture that blocks the camera’s view.
The listed operating range is -4°F to 122°F. The device uses 120V AC at 60Hz, produces up to 800 lumens, and measures 2.36 × 2.36 × 9.45 inches with its telescoping rod extended. It weighs 0.84 pounds, or 13.5 ounces, and carries a one-year warranty. Wyze’s specification page contains the complete list.

How useful is the light?
The 800-lumen bulb should provide useful warm-white illumination for a doorway, porch, or walkway, and brightness can be adjusted in the Wyze app. Wyze also supports synchronized control of up to five separate Wyze Accessory Bulbs.

But this is not a dedicated floodlight. The camera and bulb share one location, so the best camera angle may not be the best lighting angle. The device is also longer and heavier than an ordinary bulb, which may be a poor match for lightweight or portable fixtures. It produces 3000K warm-white light rather than tunable color or daylight-white illumination.
The key buying test: will your fixture work?
Before ordering, check every item below:
- Does the fixture use an E26 socket?
- Is the socket controlled by a standard on/off switch rather than a dimmer or timer?
- Is the fixture open enough for the camera stem and lens to extend below its housing?
- Will the lens have a clear view without glass between it and the area being monitored?
- Is the location sheltered from direct water exposure?
- Can the fixture safely support a device measuring up to 9.45 inches when extended and weighing 13.5 ounces?
- Is a stable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal available there?
If any answer is no, a conventional camera is likely to be a better purchase than trying to adapt the fixture.
Strengths and limitations
Why it makes sense
- Low entry price: roughly $50 buys both a camera and a controllable light.
- Simple concept: in a compatible socket, installation is closer to changing a bulb than mounting a camera and running a separate light.
- Wide coverage: the detailed specification gives a 166-degree diagonal view.
- Local recording: a microSD card can support 24/7 recording without requiring Cam Plus.
- Useful deterrence features: two-way audio and a siren supplement the camera and light.
Why it may disappoint
- Fixture dependence: the camera cannot be placed independently of the bulb socket.
- 2.4GHz-only Wi-Fi: a 5GHz-only network will not work.
- Installation restrictions: dimmers, timers, enclosed fixtures, and direct water exposure are prohibited or unsuitable.
- Extra storage cost: the microSD card is not included.
- Not a floodlight: 800 lumens is substantially less than the 2,800 lumens Wyze lists for its Cam Floodlight v2.
- Moderate frame rates: video is listed at 20fps during the day and 15fps at night, with digital rather than optical zoom.
- Subscription trade-off: cloud and AI conveniences are part of Wyze’s Cam Plus offering.
Wyze Bulb Cam alternatives
| Alternative | Best for | Main difference |

| Wyze Cam Pan v4 | Adjustable pan/tilt coverage | A conventional pan/tilt camera; Wyze listed it at $59.98 on its deals page. |
| Wyze Cam Floodlight v2 | Bright security lighting | A dedicated floodlight-camera design with 2,800-lumen LEDs; Wyze listed it at $99.98. |
| TP-Link Tapo C520WS | Flexible outdoor placement and local storage | A conventional outdoor pan/tilt camera supporting microSD cards up to 512GB without monthly fees. No current price is stated here. |
Who should buy the Wyze Bulb Cam?
Buy it if you already have a covered, open E26 fixture, want a broad view of a porch or entrance, have dependable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and like the convenience of combining lighting and surveillance. It is especially compelling for budget-conscious homeowners or renters who can use an existing suitable socket.
Choose a normal camera instead if you need battery operation, 5GHz Wi-Fi, independent camera placement, stronger lighting, direct-weather exposure, a fully enclosed fixture, or a professional-grade security system with monitored alarms and guaranteed evidence preservation. A separate camera and smart bulb will cost more or require more installation, but they let you aim and replace each device independently.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Bottom line: the Bulb Cam is a clever, inexpensive solution for the right fixture—not a universal security-camera replacement. The most important question is not whether it costs about $50; it is whether the camera lens can extend beyond your fixture and remain sheltered with a clear view.
