WYBOT S3 Pool Cleaning Robot: What the CES 2025 Announcement Promised—and What Buyers Can Get in 2026

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The WYBOT S3 was announced at CES on January 6, 2025, but it was not an immediate retail launch. WYBOT later announced a commercial launch and presale in March 2026. As of August 16–18, 2026, WYBOT’s U.S. store listed the S3 at $2,499.99, discounted from $2,999.99.

The S3’s appeal is unusually ambitious automation: self-docking, debris transfer to an above-ground bin, automated charging, 3D mapping, app scheduling, and solar-assisted charging. Those features could substantially reduce routine handling, but they do not make pool ownership maintenance-free—and the major performance claims remain manufacturer claims rather than independently verified results.

The short version

WYBOT introduced the S3 at CES 2025 as a cordless robotic pool cleaner designed to return to an above-ground dock, transfer collected debris into a larger bin, and recharge automatically. The CES announcement also highlighted 3D mapping, AI-assisted debris detection, app control, and solar-assisted charging. WYBOT’s CES announcement described the product as a highly automated alternative to conventional robotic cleaners.

Availability came much later. WYBOT announced a March 2026 launch and presale, and its current product page now lists the S3 for sale. That distinction matters: CES 2025 presented an announced product and technology showcase, not a cleaner that consumers could necessarily buy in January 2025.

The S3 is most compelling for pool owners who place a high value on reducing retrieval, charging, and debris-emptying chores. At roughly $2,500 on the dated promotional listing, it is not an obvious choice for buyers who simply want an inexpensive floor cleaner.

What WYBOT announced at CES 2025

WYBOT announced the S3 on January 6, 2025, during CES at the Venetian Expo in Las Vegas, Level 2, Booth 51423. The company positioned it as a self-docking, self-emptying, automatically charging pool robot and used “world’s first” language for several aspects of the design. Those superlatives should be treated as WYBOT’s marketing claims, not as independently established industry facts.

The CES-era feature list included:

  • 3D pool mapping and smart navigation;
  • camera- and AI-assisted detection of larger debris;
  • automatic return to an above-ground dock;
  • transfer of debris from the robot into a larger dock-side bin;
  • solar-assisted charging alongside conventional DC charging; and
  • real-time or underwater app control.

WYBOT’s CES 2025 page also identifies the S3 among the company’s CES products. Independent CES coverage from IEEE Spectrum described the same broad concept: a self-emptying, solar-charging, pool-mapping robot.

From CES announcement to retail product

The timeline is central to understanding the S3:

Date What happened
January 6, 2025 WYBOT announced the S3 at CES 2025.
March 2026 WYBOT announced the later commercial launch and presale.
August 16–18, 2026 WYBOT’s U.S. store listed the S3 at $2,499.99, reduced from $2,999.99.

The retail product page supplies current specifications, warranty information, app requirements, and purchase terms. However, a product listing should not be confused with independent evidence that the cleaner performs perfectly across different pool shapes, surfaces, debris loads, climates, or seasons.

How the self-emptying dock is supposed to work

The S3’s main differentiator is its dock ecosystem. According to the CES announcement, the robot has a 3-liter debris bin. After a cleaning cycle, it returns to the dock, where debris is transferred into a 10-liter above-ground base-station bin. WYBOT claimed that the larger bin could support up to 30 days or eight full cleanings before emptying.

The current product page describes the dock bin as a 10-liter self-sanitizing debris bin and says maintenance may be reduced to roughly once a month. These are manufacturer claims. Actual emptying frequency will depend on:

  • pool size and cleaning frequency;
  • leaves, insects, and other large debris;
  • algae, dust, and fine sediment;
  • the condition of the filter and brushes; and
  • whether the cleaner is running full-pool cycles or floor-focused cycles.

A heavily loaded robot bin may also affect cleaning before the dock has a chance to empty it. “Self-emptying” reduces one recurring chore; it does not eliminate inspection, filter care, brush cleaning, or debris removal from the dock.

What 3D mapping means in practice

WYBOT says the S3 scans the pool during its first run, creates a map, and uses that information to plan more efficient routes on later cycles. Its March 2026 launch material attributes the navigation system to 36 sensors.

That could be more repeatable than random movement, especially in a simple rectangular pool. But mapping is a navigation feature, not proof that every square foot will be cleaned in every cycle. The available sources do not establish:

  • whether maps are retained permanently or can be reset;
  • how the system responds to changed water levels, floating covers, toys, ladders, or furniture;
  • how well mapping works in cloudy water, bright sunlight, or heavy debris;
  • whether every cleaning mode uses the map in the same way; or
  • what happens when the robot loses its position or cannot find the dock.

Pool owners with steps, tanning ledges, unusual transitions, drains, or free-form geometry should treat mapping as a promising aid rather than a coverage guarantee.

AI Vision is narrower than the headline suggests

The CES announcement described camera- and AI-powered debris detection intended to identify larger debris and direct cleaning activity where it is needed. The current product page calls this feature AI Vision Technology, but its detailed listing specifically identifies AI Vision Mode (Floor Only).

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That qualification is important. The available information does not show that AI vision controls every mode, including wall and waterline cleaning. Nor does it independently establish detection accuracy, false-positive rates, improvement in coverage, or performance with fine dust and algae. The safest description is that AI Vision is a manufacturer-advertised floor-cleaning feature intended to target visible debris.

Solar charging: assistance, not unlimited autonomy

The CES announcement described solar-assisted charging with conventional DC charging as an all-weather fallback. WYBOT said that, under optimal sunlight, the dock could provide approximately 1.5 hours of runtime after one day of charging.

That is a conditional figure, not a promise of continuous off-grid operation. Solar output depends on panel exposure, shading, season, weather, panel cleanliness, and how the dock manages charging. A shaded pool, winter installation, or series of cloudy days may make the DC charger the more predictable option.

What the S3 still cannot replace

The S3 is a pool-cleaning robot, not a complete pool-maintenance system. Even if it operates reliably, owners should still expect to manage:

  • water chemistry and sanitiser levels;
  • surface skimming and floating debris;
  • filter, brush, and sensor maintenance;
  • dock-bin emptying;
  • inspection of charging contacts and seals; and
  • areas the robot cannot reach, such as some steps, ledges, corners, or obstructions.

Fine sediment is another qualification. An 180-micron filter specification does not prove that very fine dust or algae will be removed efficiently in every pool. Similarly, listing waterline scrubbing does not quantify performance on tile transitions, curved walls, or difficult waterlines.

Who should consider the S3?

The S3 makes the strongest practical case for:

  • owners who want to minimise routine retrieval and charging;
  • pools with substantial leaf or insect loads;
  • people willing to pay a premium for automated debris transfer;
  • owners with a suitable, protected dock location; and
  • users comfortable with Bluetooth and app-connected equipment.

It is a weaker fit for:

  • budget-conscious buyers seeking a basic floor cleaner;
  • pools with complicated steps, shelves, unusual geometry, or frequent obstructions;
  • shaded locations where solar assistance will be limited;
  • owners who do not want app or Bluetooth setup; and
  • buyers who require independently verified reliability before spending approximately $2,500.

Before purchasing, check how the robot handles your specific ladders, drains, ledges, covers, and waterline. Ask how failed docking is handled, whether replacement consumables are readily available, and whether app control is Bluetooth-only or supports remote internet access; the available sources do not establish the latter.

Alternatives to the S3

WYBOT S2 Solar

WYBOT’s S2 Solar is the company’s lower-tier alternative for buyers primarily interested in cordless operation and solar-assisted charging. It may make more sense for owners who do not need the S3’s self-emptying dock and mapping package. Its current price was not reliably established here and should be checked directly before purchase.

Conventional robotic cleaners

Conventional cordless or corded cleaners may cost less and be simpler to replace. Their trade-off is usually more manual retrieval, charging, filter emptying, or hose and power management. The sensible comparison is not just cleaning ability; it is how much the S3’s dock ecosystem is worth to you.

Professional pool service

A professional service may be the better answer when the goal is reduced personal labour rather than ownership of a robot. A technician can also handle water chemistry, brushing, inspection, and problems a robot cannot solve. Local service pricing varies substantially by location.

Verdict

The WYBOT S3 is now more than a CES concept: it was announced in January 2025, reached presale in March 2026, and was listed for retail purchase later in 2026. Its technical ambition is clear, particularly the combination of self-docking, debris transfer, automated charging, mapping, scheduling, and solar assistance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

At the dated promotional price of $2,499.99, however, the purchase is primarily a decision about convenience. Buy it only if reduced manual intervention has meaningful value for your pool and you are willing to verify dock placement, replacement parts, app requirements, warranty support, and performance expectations. The S3 may be a compelling premium automation system, but CES demonstrations, AI labels, “world’s first” language, and manufacturer claims are not substitutes for independent long-term reliability and coverage testing.
