On most Samsung front-load washers, the pump or debris filter sits behind a small access panel near the bottom front of the machine. Open the panel and look for the emergency drain hose and filter. The exact location and removal method can vary by model, so check your washer’s manual if the panel or parts differ.
Which filter are you looking for?
Samsung calls the component behind the low front panel the pump filter or debris filter; Samsung Australia also calls it the drain filter. It catches lint and other debris before they enter the drain system. It is separate from the mesh filter on the water-supply hose, which is a different component.

How to find and access the pump filter
- Look near the bottom front. Find the small pump-filter access panel. Samsung says the cover may open by pressing it.
- Prepare for water. Put a towel and shallow container beneath the area. If the washer recently ran a hot cycle, allow the water to cool; Samsung US advises waiting one hour after a hot cycle because the water can be very hot.
- Drain the washer. Open the panel, pull out the emergency drain hose, remove its cap, and direct the water into the container.
- Remove the filter. After the water drains, turn the filter counterclockwise. Some models require you to push the filter in while turning.
- Clean and reinstall it. Use a soft-bristle brush, such as a small toothbrush, to remove debris. Check the pump impeller inside the housing as well. Turn the filter clockwise to reinstall it, replace the hose cap, secure the hose in its clip, and close the panel.
If you cannot find the panel or the filter mechanism does not match these steps, use the model number to find the manual for your exact washer. Samsung notes that its general instructions may not apply to every front-load model.

- If your Samsung washer is leaking when you use it again after cleaning the original filter with a lock, consider replacing this non lock filter! Avoiding flooding in your home.
When to clean it
Samsung US recommends cleaning the pump filter at least once a month or about every 40 washes. Samsung Australia’s guidance, which applies to Australian models, recommends cleaning it five to six times per year. Follow the manual for your washer’s model and region if its schedule differs. Why the filter matters for draining and spinning
A clogged pump filter can contribute to poor drainage or spin problems. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance for a washer that will not spin checks whether it can drain, because the washer must drain before spinning. A clogged filter is only one possible cause; consult Samsung’s washer-not-spinning troubleshooting guidance if cleaning it does not resolve the symptom.
