Great Day Improvements’ 2027 launch announcement says 75% of homeowners polled plan some form of renovation in 2027, with decisions increasingly framed around quality of life rather than simply chasing home value. That is a statement of intention, not a count of completed projects—and the announcement does not provide the full report or its survey methods.
What the 2027 announcement says is driving renovation
The announcement describes homeowners as more deliberate about renovation choices and says the focus is shifting toward improving how a home feels and functions. It reports that 75% of homeowners polled plan some form of renovation in 2027. The figure comes from Great Day Improvements’ launch announcement, updated October 6, 2026; it should be read as reported intent, not a prediction that three-quarters will complete a project.
Great Day Improvements president and CEO Drew Weinfurtner described an industry shaped by “changing factors, from the pandemic-fueled boom, supply chain disruptions, inflation, labor shortages to rapidly changing consumer expectations.” The announcement does not establish how much each factor influenced the reported plans.
What last year’s survey adds—and what it doesn’t
Great Day Improvements’ separate 2026 report provides useful context for the newer framing, but its findings are not 2027 results. The company says a third-party research firm surveyed 3,070 U.S. respondents ages 30–75, across genders and regions, with household incomes from $75,000 to $200,000 or more; it lists a 1.77% margin of error. In that 2026 survey, 65% said they had completed a home project in the prior year.

The most frequently reported 2026 project categories included painting, outdoor living, bathroom remodeling and landscaping:

Those figures suggest that practical refreshes and improvements to indoor and outdoor spaces were common in the prior-year survey. They do not identify the most popular projects planned for 2027.

Personal value mattered more than resale in 2026
In the 2026 survey, respondents cited aesthetics (19%) and comfort or livability (18%) as renovation motivations more often than resale value (8%). That pattern is consistent with the 2027 announcement’s emphasis on quality of life, but the two statements come from different years and evidence: one is a prior-year survey result, the other is the company’s summary of its newer report.
The 2026 report also found that 43% said renovations evoked excitement, while 36% reported stress and 28% anxiety. A home project can therefore be appealing and burdensome at the same time—a useful reminder that motivation alone does not remove planning, budget or contractor concerns.

Cost, trust and time were leading obstacles
In Great Day Improvements’ 2026 survey, high costs were the most commonly reported obstacle (54%), followed by difficulty finding trusted professionals (28%) and lack of time (25%). These are reported barriers from that survey, not verified causes of the 2027 plans. For homeowners turning an intention into a project, they point to three practical planning needs:
- Set a workable scope and budget. In the 2026 survey, 59% of respondents with a planned renovation budget expected to spend at least $10,000, and nearly 40% anticipated at least $20,000. Those are expectations reported in the 2026 survey, not current cost benchmarks or guarantees of what a project will cost.
- Check contractor fit before committing. Compare written scopes, schedules, references and payment terms so that bids describe the same work.
- Plan around the time the work requires. Confirm access, disruption, material decisions and who will make day-to-day choices before work begins.
Homeowner plans are not the same as market spending
A separate 2026 outlook from Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies projected home improvement and repair spending to grow 0.5% year over year by Q1 2027, with total spending projected at $523 billion in early 2027. That is a market spending forecast, not a survey of how many homeowners intend to renovate. It uses a different measure and time horizon from Great Day Improvements’ 75% intention figure. Harvard JCHS managing director Chris Herbert said, “Remodeling follows the overall housing market.”

What the announcement leaves unanswered
The accessible 2027 announcement does not establish the survey’s sample size, field dates, methodology, weighting, or detailed project rankings. It also does not show how many planned projects will proceed. Those details should not be inferred from the 2026 report, whose respondent profile and findings belong to its own survey year.
Accordingly, the clearest takeaway is limited but useful: the 2027 announcement presents renovation as a quality-of-life decision and reports widespread homeowner intent, while the 2026 survey shows that comfort and aesthetics already outpaced resale value as stated motivations—and that cost, contractor trust and time were substantial obstacles.
