What is the RFK SportsPlex?
District materials describe a planned indoor recreation and sports facility on the RFK campus, near the existing Fields at RFK. The project listing calls it “The RFK SportsPlex”; the District’s FY2026 capital-project record uses “THE COMPLEX AT RFK STADIUM.” The D.C. Council’s redevelopment law places the SportsPlex alongside a new stadium and supporting facilities in the first stage of campus redevelopment.

Agency materials give differing location fields: the project listing names 2400 East Capitol Street SE in Ward 7, while the capital-project record lists 401 Oklahoma Avenue NE as the facility address. How much is the project expected to cost?
The District project listing gives a rounded budget of $77 million. A separate FY2026 capital-project record estimates the full funding cost at $77.5 million and shows $77 million projected across FY2026 through FY2030, with budget authority requested through FY2031. These are budget figures, not evidence of a construction-management contract value.

An earlier District announcement about the wider RFK campus agreement said the mayor’s FY2026 budget proposal included $89 million for the SportsPlex. That proposal figure is distinct from the later capital-project estimate and the rounded listing budget; the documents do not establish that the figures are interchangeable. This is a budget description of proposed features, not a final construction specification. The District has described the facility as a year-round youth sports and tournament venue near the Fields at RFK.
Has the District named the construction-management team?
The official project and campus materials cited here do not name a selected construction-management firm or establish an award date. The project listing anticipated an RFP release in spring 2026, but a solicitation timeline does not prove that a contract was awarded. Without a specific award notice or agency announcement, the team’s identity cannot be confirmed from these records.

The FY2026 capital-project record identifies the Department of Parks and Recreation as the agency and the Department of General Services as the implementing agency. That identifies public agencies involved in the project, not the selected construction manager. FY2026 capital-project record.
When is the SportsPlex expected to be completed?
The District project listing gives fall 2030 as the target for substantial completion and spring 2026 as the expected RFP release. The Council’s redevelopment law says the first-stage campus projects, including the adjacent SportsPlex, were intended for delivery by 2030. Neither source verifies current construction progress or sets a public opening date. How does the project fit into RFK campus redevelopment?
The Council law describes the RFK campus as approximately 180 acres and frames the stadium and adjacent public SportsPlex as part of the initial redevelopment stage. The SportsPlex is therefore one element of a broader campus plan, rather than a standalone construction project with a separately established public opening schedule. The District’s announcement about the campus agreement also discussed the wider stadium and redevelopment; its economic-impact projections concern that broader deal, not the SportsPlex alone.
