The safest assumption is that a casino resort has no single, universal rule for parking, clothing, age, room access, or outside guests. Policies can differ between properties, between hotel guests and day visitors, and even between a resort’s casino floor, restaurants, clubs, pools, and event spaces. Before you leave, check the selected property’s current official pages for parking, check-in, identification, occupancy, smoking, and each venue on your itinerary. The Las Vegas examples below show how widely the details can vary; they are illustrations, not rules for every casino resort.
Start with five checks before you travel
A few minutes spent checking the right pages can prevent a denied entry, an unexpected parking charge, or a room-access problem. Confirm these items for the exact property and date:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Parking: identify the correct self-parking garage and valet entrance, the visitor and hotel-guest rates, whether event pricing applies, and whether you may leave and re-enter without paying again.
- Age and identification: separate the age required to check in from the age required to enter gaming areas, clubs, pools, shows, or other restricted venues. Carry the original valid government-issued photo ID requested by the resort.
- Clothing: read the general resort guidance, then check every restaurant, nightlife venue, pool, or event you plan to visit. A resort’s general standard may not apply at a particular venue.
- Reservation and room access: verify the maximum occupancy, registered guest names, extra-person charges, visitor rules, and who may access the room or suite.
- Conduct and prohibited items: look for smoking and vaping restrictions, outside food and beverage rules, cooler limits, and behavior policies.
Save the relevant policy pages or confirmation messages on your phone. Rates and rules can change, especially around large events, so a page checked months earlier is not a reliable substitute for a check shortly before departure.
Parking is a property-by-property decision
Do not plan around an assumed “casino parking” rate. A resort may offer free parking, charge visitors while waiving the fee for registered guests, price valet separately, or add event-period pricing. Ask four questions before setting out: Is self-parking available? Is valet available? Which option, if any, is free for hotel guests? Does the payment cover re-entry or only one continuous stay?

What the published examples show
| Property example | Published arrangement | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Wynn | Self-parking is complimentary for registered resort and Tower Suite guests; visitors pay a daily rate. | Special-event pricing may be higher, and valet has separate terms. |
| Rio | Complimentary self-parking and complimentary valet are stated. | Confirm that the current offer and any event restrictions still apply to your visit. |
| Virgin Hotels Las Vegas | Complimentary self-parking and complimentary valet are stated. | Check the current official parking page for entrance, operating, and event details. |
| Resorts World | Self-parking and valet are listed with property rates. | Event pricing may apply to non-hotel visitors. |
| MGM destinations | The FAQ says parking arrangements differ across destinations. | There is no single rate or privilege that can be applied to every resort in the group. |
The examples do not establish a market-wide price or a standard guest benefit. Even at a resort advertising complimentary parking, confirm whether the benefit applies to your reservation type, the garage you intend to use, and the date of your visit. A “free” offer may be limited to a registered hotel guest, while a day visitor may pay. Conversely, a paid rate may be replaced by a special event rule or temporary validation program.
How to avoid a parking surprise
- Open the property’s official parking page rather than relying on a search-result snippet or an old travel post.
- Record the current self-parking and valet terms, including any distinction between hotel guests and visitors.
- Look specifically for “event,” “peak,” “re-entry,” “validation,” and “associated resort” language.
- Map the entrance you need. A hotel check-in entrance, casino garage, and valet stand may be on different sides of a large resort.
- If you are attending a concert, convention, holiday event, or major sporting weekend, recheck the policy on the day of travel.
Check-in age is not the same as casino age
Age rules often change as you move through the property. A child may be permitted in a hotel with an accompanying adult while being prohibited from gaming areas. Check-in can also require an adult who is at least 21, even when younger people are allowed to stay in the room.
Examples of separate thresholds
- MGM: its FAQ says children can be at its hotels with an adult, but casino and gaming areas require guests to be 21 or older.
- Rio: an adult aged 21 or older must be present to check in.
- Resorts World and Virgin Hotels Las Vegas: their published policies describe age-21 check-in requirements and government-issued identification.
These are property examples, not a universal rule. Confirm the age requirement for every part of your itinerary: check-in, casino floor, sportsbook, pool, nightclub, show, restaurant, and any ticketed event. A venue may impose a stricter rule than the hotel itself.

Bring the right identification
Carry the original valid government-issued photo ID specified by the property. A photograph of an ID, an expired document, or an ID that does not meet the venue’s requirements may not be accepted. Keep the reservation name consistent with the person presenting the document, and ask in advance whether every adult in the room must be listed at check-in.

Dress codes become stricter at specific venues
Think of attire as a set of layers rather than one resort-wide rule. General public spaces may allow ordinary casual clothing, while a signature restaurant, nightclub, pool deck, show, or special event applies a more specific standard.
General resort guidance
The Cosmopolitan’s general policy calls for shoes and covered tops and bottoms. Its FAQ also says some restaurants and nightlife venues enforce stricter requirements. That means clothing acceptable in a lobby or casino walkway may still be refused at a particular venue.
Restaurant guidance
Resorts World describes business-casual attire for its signature restaurants and allows dress shorts and dress sandals there. “Business casual” is not a universal definition, so read the restaurant’s own wording and photographs or contact the venue if your outfit is borderline.

| Itinerary stop | What to verify | Practical preparation |
|---|---|---|
| General resort and casino areas | Basic coverage, shoes, and any prohibited clothing listed by the resort. | Choose clean, presentable clothing that can be adjusted with a layer or different shoes. |
| Signature restaurant | Business-casual or venue-specific requirements; whether dress shorts or sandals are allowed. | Reserve a change of clothes if the same day includes pool or sightseeing activities. |
| Nightlife venue | Minimum age, footwear, prohibited athletic wear, and stricter door discretion. | Check the club’s page separately from the hotel’s general FAQ. |
| Pool or day club | Swimwear, cover-up, footwear, bag, and age rules. | Bring the required cover-up and expect a separate entry policy. |
| Show or special event | Event organizer’s attire, ticket, and identification requirements. | Read the event instructions even when the event is inside the resort. |
Do not assume that a casino floor requires formalwear, and do not assume that casual clothing is accepted everywhere. The evidence supports variation, not one dress code for all casino resorts.

Room occupancy and guest access need their own check
A room reservation does not automatically give every companion or visitor the same rights. MGM says permitted occupancy varies by room type. Check your booking for the maximum number of people, whether an extra-person charge applies, and which names must be registered.
Wynn’s terms state that only registered guests may access hotel rooms and suites. That is a useful warning for anyone planning to meet friends in a room, bring a late-arriving companion, or host a small gathering. Ask the resort how visitors are handled before arrival; do not rely on a friend’s assumption that a room key or verbal invitation is enough.
For groups and families
- List every intended overnight guest according to the reservation instructions.
- Confirm whether children count toward the room’s occupancy limit.
- Ask about identification for additional adults arriving after the primary guest.
- Check whether a visitor may enter the room, use amenities, or remain overnight.
- Keep the reservation confirmation available if front-desk staff need to verify occupancy.
Smoking, vaping, and marijuana policies can be broader than expected
Never infer room-smoking rules from what you see in a casino or outdoor area. The reviewed properties describe non-smoking room policies and possible cleaning fees, but the details differ by resort.

MGM’s FAQ states that e-cigarettes, vapors, hookahs, and marijuana fall under its non-smoking policy. Rio lists a room cleaning fee for smoking or vaping. Those statements illustrate why “smoking” should be read broadly: a policy may cover more than combustible cigarettes, and a fee may be assessed after checkout.

Check the selected resort’s definition of non-smoking, the designated smoking areas, balcony rules, and any penalty before you pack. If someone in your party uses a vape, hookah, or medical or recreational marijuana, verify the property’s written rule rather than assuming that legality outside the resort makes use inside the room acceptable.
Outside food, beverages, coolers, and conduct
Resorts can limit what enters the property and can remove guests who violate conduct rules. Wynn, for example, says outside food and beverage and large coolers are not permitted at the resort and casino. Rio lists prohibited conduct and reserves the right to remove guests who violate its policy. These are property-specific examples, not a universal ban at every resort.
Questions to ask before packing
- Are sealed snacks, takeout meals, or nonalcoholic drinks allowed in the room?
- Are large coolers, glass containers, or outside alcohol prohibited?
- Can food be brought to a pool, show, or casino area even if it is allowed in the room?
- What behavior can lead to removal, loss of room access, or forfeiture of a reservation?
Read both the hotel terms and the venue rules. A room policy may allow an item that a pool, club, or theater does not.

| Your situation | Most important checks | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Day visitor driving in | Visitor parking rate, event pricing, re-entry, casino age, and venue dress code. | You may not receive hotel-guest parking or access benefits. |
| Overnight hotel guest | Check-in age, valid ID, occupancy, registered names, smoking policy, and room-access rules. | A reservation does not override age, occupancy, or registration conditions. |
| Family with someone under 21 | Hotel child policy, routes that avoid gaming areas, pool and restaurant ages, and an adult who meets check-in requirements. | Hotel access and gaming access can have different thresholds. |
| Restaurant or club visit | Venue-specific attire, age, ID, reservation, and entry time. | The venue may enforce stricter rules than the resort’s general policy. |
| Large event weekend | Event parking, peak pricing, road or garage instructions, and revised entry rules. | Normal parking privileges and rates may change. |
A practical arrival-day checklist
- Government-issued photo ID for each adult who may need to check in or enter a restricted venue.
- Reservation confirmation showing the correct dates, room type, occupancy, and registered guests.
- The current parking instructions, including the garage or valet entrance and any event notice.
- Clothing and footwear that meet the strictest restaurant, club, pool, or event requirement on your schedule.
- A plan for children or under-21 companions that keeps them out of gaming and other restricted areas.
- Knowledge of the resort’s non-smoking rule and designated areas.
- A quick check of outside-food, beverage, cooler, and conduct restrictions before loading the car.
If staff give you a different answer at arrival
Ask which written policy applies, whether the rule is for hotel guests or visitors, and whether an event or venue-specific exception is involved. Request clarification from the front desk, parking office, or venue manager rather than relying on a general casino employee’s memory. If the policy prevents entry, do not argue that another resort permits the item or clothing; ask what compliant alternative is available, such as changing attire, moving the vehicle, registering an additional guest, or using a designated smoking area.
Keep receipts and screenshots for a genuine billing dispute, but treat posted terms at the property as controlling when rates or access conditions have changed. The most reliable preparation is not memorizing one resort’s rules; it is checking the exact property, date, guest status, and venue immediately before the visit.
