If your name is missing from a housing beneficiary list, first identify the exact scheme, issuing authority and version of the list, then check the official application or beneficiary record. Ask the responsible local office what status or reason is recorded, submit a written correction or grievance with supporting documents, and keep the acknowledgement number. Being absent from one list is not, by itself, proof that you were rejected or that the record is wrong.
Procedures differ by country, state, municipality and programme. The steps below apply broadly, with specific examples from India’s PMAY-Urban 2.0 and PMAY-Gramin schemes. Use those examples only if your application is under the relevant programme.

Start by identifying the list and the authority behind it
“Housing beneficiary list” can refer to a rural housing-assistance register, an urban subsidy list, a local affordable-housing allocation, or a project-specific allotment. The correct remedy depends on which one you applied for.

- Note the country, state or province, district, city, ward or village and the office that issued the list.
- Write down the list date, publication number or version and any objection or appeal deadline.
- Find your application, assessment, registration or beneficiary reference number.
A list may omit a person because the application has not yet been processed, the published version is older, the name was entered differently, an eligibility decision was recorded, or an administrative field is wrong. Treat each as a possibility to verify rather than assuming the reason.

Check the official record before filing a complaint
Search with every identifier you have
Use the programme’s official beneficiary-search or application-status system, if one exists. Search the name exactly as filed, then try reasonable spelling, spacing and transliteration variations. Check the application or assessment number, household identifier and location fields as well. Save a screenshot or PDF of the result and write down the date and time of the search.
For PMAY-Urban 2.0, the official portal provides “Search Beneficiary,” including “Search By Name,” and a facility to track assessment or application status. Use the filed name and reference number rather than relying on a single spelling.
Distinguish a missing name from a missing application
If the search returns no result, ask whether the application was received and digitised. A beneficiary list can be different from an intake register; an application may exist even when the applicant is not in the current published list. If the system shows a status such as incomplete, under verification, ineligible or previously assisted, record the wording exactly. Do not paraphrase it in a way that changes its meaning.

Contact the office that owns the underlying record, not only a general information desk. Depending on the programme, that may be a municipality or Urban Local Body, village or block office, district programme unit, housing board or another implementing authority.
Ask the official to confirm four points:
- Whether an application exists under your name, household or reference number.
- What status, eligibility decision or exclusion code is currently recorded.
- Whether the name differs from your documents or whether a flag says you are dead, relocated, uninterested or a previous beneficiary.
- Which channel handles a correction, objection, review or service-delivery grievance.
Request the answer in writing where possible. If you visit in person, take the officer’s name, office, date and a concise note of what was said. A verbal assurance without a reference number is difficult to follow up.
Submit a documented correction or grievance
Include the facts the record keeper needs
Your request should allow an official to find the record without guessing. State:

- Scheme name and implementing authority.
- Ward, village, locality, project or other location used in the application.
- Your name exactly as filed, plus any spelling variation appearing on an identity document.
- Application, assessment, registration or beneficiary number.
- List date or version in which your name is absent.
- The precise problem: omission, misspelling, wrong status, duplicate record, incorrect death or relocation flag, previous-benefit flag, or another identifiable error.
- The action requested, such as correction of a field, confirmation of eligibility review, inclusion in the next lawful list or instructions for an objection.
Attach copies, not irreplaceable originals
Attach the acknowledgement or application receipt and the documents that establish the disputed fact. Keep the originals unless an authority specifically requires them through a secure, official process. In the PMAY-Urban 2.0 example, the official FAQ identifies a copy of Aadhaar, bank-account details and an eligibility undertaking as application materials. For Beneficiary Led Construction, land-ownership papers may also be required. State, Union Territory, Urban Local Body or implementing authorities may specify additional documents.

For example, explain that Attachment 1 is the application acknowledgement and Attachment 2 shows the name spelling used when the application was filed. Do not send unrelated personal information.
Obtain proof of submission
Use the channel named in the notice or by the responsible office. Ask for a stamped receipt, online acknowledgement, complaint number or other tracking reference. Keep:
- A complete copy of the request and every attachment.
- The submission date and method.
- The acknowledgement or complaint number.
- All subsequent emails, letters, messages and replies.
Record the date you were told to expect a response, but do not treat an informal estimate as a guaranteed processing time.
Use the programme’s grievance route when a correction is not enough
A correction request changes a data field; a grievance asks an authority to address a service or decision problem. Use the route that matches the issue and preserve the earlier reference number.

PMAY-Urban 2.0 in India
Eligible applicants may apply through the Unified Web Portal, a Common Service Centre or the concerned Urban Local Body or municipality. For service-delivery grievances, the official PMAY-U 2.0 FAQ identifies both the complaint option on the PMAY-U 2.0 portal and the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS). The FAQ states: “Additionally, Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) is available to the citizens to lodge their grievances to the public authorities on any subject related to service delivery including PMAY-U 2.0.”

Use the local Urban Local Body first when the problem is a missing or misspelled local record, then cite its receipt if you submit the matter through the portal complaint option or CPGRAMS. Construction-related issues are addressed by the concerned State or Union Territory, according to the same FAQ.
PMAY-Gramin in India
Official PMAY-G social-audit guidance expressly recognises the issue category “Eligible beneficiary not selected.” It also identifies potentially erroneous records in which a person is marked as not interested in assistance, dead, relocated or a previous beneficiary, and it lists discrepancies in a beneficiary’s name. Use the category that accurately describes your case and ask local programme officials how the error can be recorded and reviewed.
A separate PMAY-G workflow document describes district and state officials sending certain specified cases to a Gram Sabha for re-verification. That pathway applies to the administrative cases covered by the workflow; it is not evidence of a universal public appeal procedure or a universal deadline. Ask whether your circumstances fit the local process.
Check the deadline instead of assuming one
No universal appeal deadline applies to every housing beneficiary list. Some notices establish an objection window; others provide a correction period or no published date at all. Read the specific notice and ask the responsible authority:
- What is the final date for an objection or correction?
- Does the period run from publication, receipt of a decision or another event?
- Is an online submission required, or will a signed paper request be accepted?
- Will a late request be recorded for the next list or review cycle?
Submit promptly while you confirm these details. Do not use a deadline from another scheme or another district as if it governed your application.
Escalate without losing the paper trail
If the first office does not resolve the matter, escalate through the published scheme channel and include the earlier complaint number, submission date and copies of the response. Explain what remains unresolved rather than restarting the story.

Choose the route by comparing these practical features:

| What kind of route is available? | A correction request, scheme grievance and general public-service complaint may have different powers. |
| Will you receive a tracking number? | An acknowledgement lets you prove when and where you submitted the matter. |
| Is a deadline stated? | A notice-specific deadline may control whether an objection is considered. |
| Can the channel order a review? | Some channels only forward complaints; others can direct the record-owning office to examine it. |
The available material does not establish comparative processing times or success rates for these routes. Do not promise yourself a particular response date or reinstatement.

Name or identity mismatch
Compare the spelling, order of names, initials, transliteration and household relationship in the application with the identity and bank documents submitted. State which version is correct and attach evidence for the requested correction.
Incorrect “not interested” status
If you never declined assistance, say that clearly and identify when and where you applied. Ask the authority to show the source of the status and to record your statement for review.
Incorrect death or relocation flag
Explain that the applicant is living and provide current contact or address evidence requested by the authority. Do not submit another person’s confidential documents unless they are necessary and lawfully requested.
Incorrect previous-beneficiary flag
Ask which earlier assistance record triggered the flag, for whom it was issued and whether the household or property was confused with another record. Request a written explanation of the verification needed.

Application not yet processed
If the office confirms receipt but no decision, ask whether verification, a survey, funding allocation or the next list publication is pending. Obtain the current status and the next action expected from you.
Use this request template
Adapt the wording to your scheme and submit it through the official channel:
Subject: Request to verify and correct omission from [scheme] beneficiary list“I applied under [scheme] for [ward/village/locality]. My name was filed as [name], application or assessment number [number]. The list dated [date/version] does not show my name. Please confirm whether my application is recorded, state the status or reason currently shown, and advise the procedure to correct [specific issue] or seek review. I attach [documents]. Please provide an acknowledgement number and the applicable deadline.”

Sign and date the request, provide a safe contact method and keep the submitted copy.
Avoid actions that can weaken your case
- Do not pay an intermediary who promises guaranteed inclusion unless an official fee is clearly published and receipted.
- Do not submit multiple conflicting applications simply because one list is missing your name; ask whether a duplicate could create a problem.
- Do not alter documents or conceal a previous benefit, address change or household detail.
- Do not post Aadhaar, bank details or other sensitive records publicly when a private official channel is available.
- Do not assume that appearing on a preliminary list guarantees final approval or payment.
If you cannot identify the scheme
Return to the notice, SMS, receipt or local office and ask for the programme’s formal name and issuing authority. Record the country, state or province, city or rural block and publication date before seeking advice. Exact contacts, eligibility rules, acceptable evidence and appeal rights cannot be determined from the phrase “housing beneficiary list” alone.
What a successful follow-up should contain
When an authority replies, check that it identifies your application or household, explains the recorded status, states whether a correction or review was made, and gives the next step or applicable date. If the reply is incomplete, respond using the same reference number and ask the specific unanswered question. Keep the final decision with your records even if your name is added to a later list.
