Common VESA mounting screws include M4, M6 and M8, but the exact diameter and safe length depend on the TV’s full model number and the wall-mount setup. Check the model’s manual before buying screws: a screw with the right diameter can still be too long and damage the TV.
First, identify which bolts you mean
Three different kinds of fasteners are often confused:

- VESA screws attach a wall bracket to the threaded mounting holes on the TV.
- Stand screws attach the TV’s feet or pedestal. They may be different from the VESA screws; do not substitute them unless the manual specifies the same hardware.
- Wall fasteners attach the bracket to studs, masonry or another wall structure. They are selected for the wall and bracket load, not for the TV’s threaded holes.
This article is about the screws between the TV and its bracket. Wall anchors and structural fasteners require their own selection for the wall material and installation.

Common LG VESA screw sizes
M4, M6 and M8 are common metric sizes found in LG mounting documentation and support answers. They are examples, not a universal LG sizing chart. Screen size alone does not establish which one your TV takes.

For example, LG’s documentation specifies M4 × L10 for the 24MT57S, while its 55LF5700 quick-start guide lists M6. An LG Digital Customer Care answer hosted by Best Buy identifies M6 for the 65UM7300PUA; a similar answer identifies M8 for the 65-inch B2 OLED. A 27-inch 27LQ625S-PU is listed as M4 with a 75 × 75 mm VESA pattern in an LG Digital Customer Care response hosted by Best Buy. The model’s pattern and screw size are separate specifications; use the exact model documentation. 27LQ625S-PU answer.
VESA pattern is hole spacing, not screw length
A VESA measurement such as 75 × 75, 200 × 200 or 400 × 400 mm describes the distance between mounting holes, usually measured horizontally by vertically. It does not, by itself, tell you the screw diameter or how long the screw should be. LG documentation includes patterns such as 400 × 200 mm, and LG mount specifications cover other patterns, but the TV’s own model-specific instructions remain decisive. Do not infer M8 from a large VESA pattern or a large screen. The 65-inch B2 example uses M8, while the 65-inch UM7300PUA example uses M6; the pattern and exact model specification matter.
Find the exact model and its screw specification
- Read the full model code. Look on the label on the back of the TV, the original box or purchase receipt, or in your LG account’s registered products. Some TVs also show model information in Settings; menu names vary by model and software version.
- Search LG Support by that full code. Include suffixes, such as OLED55C4PUA, rather than searching only “55-inch LG OLED.” Regional versions and suffixes can have different specifications. Start at LG Support.
- Open the model’s manual or mounting guide. Search the PDF for “wall mount,” “VESA,” “standard screw,” “mounting screw” or “wall mounting.” Record the VESA pattern, screw diameter and length, any spacers, and the number of fasteners specified.
- Compare the TV instructions with the bracket instructions. Confirm that the bracket supports the TV’s VESA pattern and weight, and that its hardware arrangement works with the TV’s rear shape.
If the manual does not specify a safe length, contact LG or the mount manufacturer rather than choosing a screw by screen size or by trial and error.
Understand the screw marking—and why length matters
In a marking such as M6 × 20 mm, M6 denotes a nominal metric thread diameter of about 6 mm, and 20 mm is the nominal screw length. Manuals may also write a length as “L10” or “L20”; for example, M4 × L10 indicates an M4 screw with a 10 mm length. Use the thread specification stated by the TV or bracket documentation rather than assuming that any similar-looking hardware has the correct thread.

The screw’s total length is not the length that enters the TV. The bracket rail, washer and any spacer sit between the screw head and the TV. As a conceptual check, the remaining reach into the TV is the screw length minus the thickness of those intervening parts. That calculation does not replace the TV’s stated maximum insertion depth or required engagement.
- A screw that is too short may not engage enough threads to hold securely.
- A screw that is too long may bottom out or reach internal components, even if its diameter is correct.
- A recessed or curved rear panel may require spacers, which change how much screw reaches the threaded insert.
LG’s manual warns that an excessively long screw can damage internal components. A universal mount guide likewise instructs installers to check hole depth and not use a screw longer than the available safe depth. LG manual; mount installation guide.
Check fit safely if the manual is unclear
- Disconnect the TV from power before moving it or working on its mounting points.
- Check the manual and any supplied mounting hardware first. If you need to lay the TV down, use a clean, padded, stable surface and get another person to help, especially with a large screen.
- If the diameter is genuinely unknown, compare a known M4, M6 and M8 screw by hand. The correct diameter should start smoothly in the threaded insert without force.
- Stop if a screw binds, feels cross-threaded or engages for only a turn or two. Do not use a power driver to test an uncertain screw.
- Before choosing a length, account for the rail, washers and spacers and confirm the safe depth from the TV documentation or manufacturer. A screw that hand-threads is not automatically safe to install.

Troubleshoot a screw that does not fit
| What happens | Possible cause and next check |

| The screw spins without catching. | It may be too small, or you may not be at a threaded VESA hole. Stop and verify the model specification and hole location. |
| The screw will not enter the hole. | It may be too large, misaligned or the wrong thread. Do not force it; recheck the specified screw and bracket alignment. |
| It catches but seems too short. | The bracket, washer or spacer stack may leave too little engagement. Check the mount instructions and safe depth before changing length. |
| It tightens before the bracket is secure. | The screw may be too long and bottoming out, or the assembly may be misaligned. Remove it and verify the permitted length; do not tighten harder. |
| The correct screw is blocked by the bracket. | Check that the rail and holes are aligned and that any required spacer or adapter is installed in the specified position. |
| The apparent hole is not threaded. | You may be looking at a stand attachment, cable opening or other feature rather than a VESA insert. Consult the rear-panel diagram in the manual. |
Some LG OLED Gallery or flush-mount products use a supplied or model-specific mounting system. A generic VESA bracket may not provide the intended fit or clearance. Check compatibility for the exact regional model in LG’s OLW480B product information or the relevant OLW480B support page and LSW440B support page.

Before ordering screws, confirm more than the diameter:

- Safe length for the specific TV, bracket, washers and spacers.
- Head style that fits the bracket openings and can be tightened with the correct tool.
- Suitable machine-screw strength and material, plus any washers or spacers specified by the manufacturers.
- Required number of TV attachment screws and bracket compatibility with the TV’s VESA pattern and weight.
A universal mount kit can be convenient because it may include several metric diameters, washers and spacers. It does not tell you which screw length is safe for your TV. Buying the specified screws individually is more precise once you know the full specification. An LG-branded mount can simplify compatibility checks when the exact TV is listed, but it may be a poor fit if you need articulation or the model is not included. LG’s current product page notes that availability and specifications may change, so verify the exact model and current compatibility rather than relying on a family name. LG OLW480B information.

For a model-specific mount, LG lists the OLW480B for certain VESA patterns, including 300 × 300, 300 × 200 and 400 × 200 mm; the LSW440B is listed for a 400 × 400 mm pattern. These descriptions do not establish compatibility with every TV that shares a pattern: confirm the exact model on the manufacturer’s current compatibility information. OLW480B; LSW440B.
Mount the bracket with the wall—not just the TV—in mind
The screws that attach the bracket to the TV are separate from the fasteners that secure the bracket to the wall. Select the bracket for the TV’s weight and mounting pattern, and attach it to appropriate structural material using fasteners and anchors suitable for the wall type. Do not assume drywall alone can support a heavy television unless the mounting system is specifically engineered for that application.
- Disconnect power before handling the TV.
- Follow the TV manual for its mounting points and the bracket manual for its hardware and tightening guidance.
- Use the correct anchors for the actual wall material; do not substitute TV VESA screws for wall fasteners.
- Use two or more people to handle a large TV. Consider professional installation for a heavy, thin, expensive or unusually shaped display.

When to stop and contact support
Do not proceed if you cannot identify the exact model, the manual and bracket instructions conflict, the screw specification or safe depth remains uncertain, a screw binds, or the TV appears to require a proprietary mount.
