What changed at this year’s show
The City lists the Powerboat Show for October 8–11, 2026, in historic downtown around Ego Alley and Annapolis Harbor. The event is taking place while City Dock construction is underway. An event preview and local reporting describe a changed exhibit layout: the traditional A and B tents on City Dock are absent, other tents have expanded, and the show extends farther onto Compromise and Randall streets. How organizers adapted
In WMAR’s October 9 report, show organizer Ryan Gullang discussed efforts to keep the event close to normal. The report also notes that Susan Campbell Park was opened for the show after fencing was removed. These details describe the organizers’ response to the construction; they are not evidence of what attendees thought about the layout or the project.

Access and visitor logistics
During the show, dinghy traffic to City Dock is relocated from the end of Prince George Street to Shipwright Street. The City also describes changed parking and boating arrangements. Because the event is underway, routes and operating details may change; visitors should check the City’s current visitor information before setting out rather than relying on an earlier description.

What is known about attendee reaction
No attendee quotes about the construction-affected layout, and no published measure of attendee satisfaction, appear in the available reporting as of October 9. The changed tent locations and access arrangements are observable conditions, not proof that visitors found the show better or worse. Organizer comments cannot stand in for attendee testimony, and business-owner observations from the spring sailboat show do not establish the views of fall powerboat show attendees.
The larger City Dock debate
The City’s stated aim
The City describes the Dock project as a way to protect downtown from flooding while creating a public gathering space. In an August 25, 2026, update, it said the project was on budget and ahead of schedule, with City Dock Park on track to reopen as early as July 2027. That is the City’s forecast, not a guaranteed reopening date. The City characterized the completed project as “a critical defense system, safeguarding downtown from flooding.”

Historic Annapolis’s concerns
Historic Annapolis supports resilience measures but opposes the proposed Maritime Welcome Center’s size and potential effects on bay views and the waterfront’s historic openness. The organization’s president, Karen, said the center was “too big for the space” and would block a substantial portion of the bay view. That is the preservation organization’s position, distinct from the City’s stated flood-protection and public-space goals.

The show’s continued presence at City Dock, its expanded footprint onto nearby streets, and temporary access changes show how a major waterfront event is being accommodated during construction. They do not settle whether attendees approve of the project, how the event experience compares with previous years, or how visitors weigh flood resilience against preservation and views. Those questions require direct comments from showgoers, with their specific observations separated from their opinions about the project.
