Which oil should you use?
SAE 10W-30 is the general-use recommendation in Harbor Freight’s manual for Predator generator item 71343. Harbor Freight’s generator break-in guide also describes conventional SAE 10W-30 as its standard recommendation for most climates, while directing owners to their manuals for alternate viscosity options in extreme conditions. The manual for your specific generator takes priority.
Use four-cycle engine oil with the SAE viscosity specified in that manual. Harbor Freight names STP Premium Small Engine 4-Cycle Oil SAE 10W-30 as an example for generators and outdoor power equipment; it is not a required brand.
Does temperature change the recommendation?
It can. Harbor Freight’s cited 212cc Predator engine manuals, items 69730 and 56712, specify SAE 10W-30 above 32°F and SAE 5W-30 at 32°F or below. That guidance is specific to those engines; do not apply it automatically to every Predator generator. Follow the temperature guidance in your model’s manual.

How much oil does a Predator generator take?
There is no single capacity established for every Predator generator. The cited 212cc engine manuals list an oil capacity of 0.5 quart, but that figure applies to those engines only. Check your generator’s manual for its fill amount rather than assuming all models share the same capacity.
