CF means the indoor air filter needs cleaning. Samsung describes it as a filter-cleaning reminder, also called a filter-reset indicator—not, by itself, a diagnosis of a mechanical fault. Clean and dry the filter, reinstall it, then reset the reminder using the instructions for your exact model.
What CF means on a Samsung AC
Samsung’s support guidance says CF indicates that the air filter needs cleaning. The display is a reminder to maintain the indoor filter; the reviewed guidance does not establish that CF measures a particular amount of dust or identify whether the reminder is triggered by operating time, a sensor, or another model-specific rule. How to clean the filter and clear CF
Filter access and reset controls differ among Samsung models. Use the owner’s manual for your unit’s model number before removing the panel or choosing a reset sequence.
- Find the model-specific instructions. Check the owner’s manual for how to open the panel, remove the indoor filter, and reset the indicator. Samsung notes that procedures and codes can vary by model. Samsung Russia’s CF guidance also directs owners to the manual.
- Remove dust gently. Follow the manual to remove the filter. Samsung’s general instructions say to use a soft brush or vacuum to clear dust.
- Wash only if appropriate for the filter. Samsung’s cited guidance describes soaking a washable filter in water with mild detergent for 30 minutes, rinsing it, and letting it air-dry in a ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Avoid hard brushes or force that could damage the filter. Samsung Saudi Arabia and Samsung Latin America provide cleaning guidance.
- Reinstall it dry. Wait until the filter is completely dry before putting it back in the unit.
- Reset the reminder. On remotes that support Samsung’s general menu procedure, operate the AC, open Options, use the arrow buttons to select Filter Reset, then press SET. If your remote has no Options button or the menu differs, follow your model’s manual rather than assuming this sequence applies.
How often to clean the filter
Samsung recommends cleaning the filter every two weeks or when CF appears. The appropriate frequency can depend on how often the AC is used and environmental conditions, according to Samsung Latin America; Samsung Philippines gives the same two-week-or-CF guidance. Treat that as a maintenance recommendation, not proof that every model uses the same trigger or schedule.

If CF remains after cleaning
- Confirm the filter is dry, correctly seated, and installed as the manual specifies.
- Check that you completed the reset procedure for your exact model. The Options > Filter Reset > SET path applies only to compatible controls.
- Use the model manual or Samsung support if the display remains after the correct cleaning and reset steps. The available Samsung guidance does not establish one reset-button sequence for every AC.
If the filter is damaged or the manual says it should be replaced, identify the exact model before seeking a replacement; Samsung Philippines’ guidance refers to cleaning or replacing indoor filters, but compatibility depends on the unit.
