Depth varies considerably: expect about 1.3 to 3 inches without the stand and approximately 8 to 10 inches with it.
Those are planning estimates, not universal Samsung dimensions. The exact model, year, region, display technology, stand design, and rear connections determine whether the TV will fit a wall, cabinet, console, doorway, or vehicle.

For planning, allow at least 50 inches of horizontal space for the television itself. Additional room is useful for ventilation, cable routing, installation tolerances, and nearby equipment.

Why a 55-inch TV is not 55 inches wide
The 55-inch designation refers to the screen’s diagonal measurement from corner to corner. It does not describe the cabinet width.

A standard 16:9 screen with a 55-inch diagonal is mathematically about 47.94 inches wide by 26.96 inches high, before bezels and housing are added. Samsung identifies some 55-inch models with an actual diagonal of approximately 54.6 inches. The completed TV body is generally about 48–49 inches wide.

Dimensions are attributed to the cited Samsung US product pages. Model suffixes, model years, and regional versions can differ, so do not treat one row as representative of every Samsung 55-inch television.

With-stand dimensions: the key measurement for furniture
If the TV will sit on a console, entertainment center, cabinet, or custom furniture, check more than the overall width. Confirm all of the following:

- Designed for VESA sized from 3.9'' x 3.9'' through 15.7'' x 15.7''.
- Comfortable View with tilt range from +10° to -5°.
- Overall width: the cabinet must fit across the furniture surface.
- Stand footprint: the feet or pedestal must sit fully on the surface and remain within its load-bearing area.
- Overall depth: compare the complete stand depth with the usable furniture depth.
- Rear clearance: HDMI, optical, antenna, Ethernet, and power cables may extend beyond the listed TV or stand depth.
- Weight capacity: use the exact model’s listed weight, not a generic 55-inch estimate.
- Soundbar clearance: measure the TV and soundbar together, including any center stand or front overhang.
Will a 55-inch Samsung TV fit on a 50-inch stand?
Often, but not automatically. A 50-inch-wide console may be wider than the U7900F’s 48.2-inch cabinet, yet the arrangement is suitable only if the stand feet fit securely, the surface can support the weight, and there is enough depth for the stand and cables.
The stand footprint can be much narrower than the TV itself, and its shape differs by model. Measure the actual feet or pedestal rather than relying on the console’s nominal width.
Wall-mounting a Samsung 55-inch TV
For wall mounting, the television itself occupies approximately 48 inches of width and 27–28 inches of height. The wall area must also accommodate the mount, power outlet, cable routing, and the side and top margins you want visually.
Do not choose a mount solely because it is labeled “for 55-inch TVs.” Samsung’s examples use different VESA patterns:

- U7900F and QEF1: 200 × 200 mm
- S85F OLED: 300 × 200 mm
The cited Samsung models use M8 mounting screws, but screw depth differs. The U7900F lists approximately 23–25 mm, while the QEF1 and S85F list approximately 19–21 mm. Verify the exact manual before installation; an incorrect screw length can damage the television.
Wall-mount checklist
- Find the exact model number, including its suffix.
- Confirm the TV’s VESA width and height.
- Check the mount’s weight rating against the TV’s exact weight.
- Confirm compatible screw size and screw depth.
- Verify stud positions or use an appropriate masonry fixing system.
- Check that the mount provides the required tilt, swivel, or extension range.
- Plan the outlet and cable path before fixing the bracket.
- Leave room for rear ventilation and for removing cables or servicing the mount.
A slim OLED may be only 1.3 inches deep without its stand, but that does not mean the finished installation needs only 1.3 inches. Brackets, cables, plugs, rear housings, and ventilation all add to the required space.
Ventilation, cabinets, and recessed installations
Physical fit and safe installation fit are different questions. A television can fit inside an opening yet be unsuitable if the cabinet encloses the rear or sides too tightly.
Check the model-specific installation guide for required clearances. Do not assume the listed cabinet depth is the necessary clearance. Add space for heat dissipation, cable bends, plugs, external devices, and access to connections.

For a recessed wall or cabinet, also check whether the TV uses an external connection box, whether the power cord can bend without strain, and whether the mount can be removed after installation.
Package and delivery dimensions
The shipping box is substantially larger than the assembled TV. Examples from Samsung’s specifications are:

Before delivery, measure the narrowest doorway, hallway, landing, stairway, elevator, and vehicle cargo opening. Account for turning space, not just the straight-line width. Keep the TV packaged and follow the retailer’s or manufacturer’s handling instructions when moving it.

How to measure before buying or installing
- Identify the exact model. Use the label, box, receipt, or the TV’s Settings menu. Names such as U7900F, QEF1, and S85F are not interchangeable.
- Open the official Samsung product page or manual. Record dimensions with and without the stand, stand footprint, package dimensions, weight, and VESA specification.
- Measure the available space in three directions. Record usable width, height, and depth rather than nominal furniture dimensions.
- Compare the correct configuration. Use with-stand measurements for a console and without-stand measurements for wall mounting.
- Add practical clearance. Include rear-cable space, ventilation, side margins, and soundbar or other equipment.
- Verify the installation hardware. For a wall, separately confirm VESA pattern, weight rating, screw dimensions, wall structure, and cable routing.
- Check the delivery route. Use the boxed dimensions before arranging transport or delivery.

Stand-mounted versus wall-mounted installation
Stand-mounted
A stand-mounted TV avoids drilling and makes access to ports and future relocation easier. It needs more furniture depth, a stable surface, adequate stand-foot clearance, and sufficient weight capacity. A soundbar may also compete for the same surface.
Wall-mounted
Wall mounting reduces furniture-depth requirements and can improve clearance from children or pets, but it requires accurate structural fixing, compatible VESA hardware, planned cable routing, and careful positioning. It can also make later removal or repositioning more difficult.
Special fit problems to check
- Corner placement: the nearly 49-inch-wide cabinet, stand shape, rear cables, and console depth can make a corner installation awkward even when a straight wall works.
- Soundbars: measure the combined height and depth; a soundbar can obstruct the screen or conflict with a center pedestal.
- OLED versus LCD: OLED panels may be thinner without the stand, but their installed stand depth can be similar to or greater than that of a Crystal UHD model.
- Regional models: a model sold in the US, Canada, Australia, or another market may have different specifications or a different suffix.
- Older models: dimensions, VESA patterns, stand designs, and screw requirements can change between model years.
Common measurement mistakes
- Using 55 inches as the TV’s width.
- Measuring only the screen and ignoring the cabinet.
- Checking overall width but not stand-foot spacing.
- Ignoring the difference between with-stand and without-stand height.
- Assuming every Samsung 55-inch TV has the same depth or VESA pattern.
- Treating the listed depth as sufficient cable clearance.
- Forgetting the shipping box when checking doors and stairs.
- Using furniture depth equal to the stand depth with no margin.
- Assuming a regional equivalent has identical dimensions.
Bottom line
Plan on a Samsung 55-inch TV being about 48–49 inches wide, 28 inches high without its stand, and about 30 inches high with the stand. For a console, check the exact stand footprint, depth, cable clearance, and weight rating. For a wall, verify the exact model’s VESA pattern, screw depth, mounting surface, and cable route. For delivery, plan around a box roughly 53–54 inches wide and 32–33 inches high.
