If your WeatherKing furnace is not heating, start with checks that do not require opening the unit: confirm the thermostat is calling for heat, check the accessible furnace switch and breaker, note any fault light or display, and inspect the air filter. WeatherKing furnaces span different models and control systems, so a blink or code must be matched to the exact furnace manual—not a generic chart. Stop and call qualified service for repeated lockouts, suspected gas or combustion problems, or a tripped safety switch.
Start with safety
If you smell gas, do not try to light an appliance or operate electrical switches. Leave the building and call the gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone, following the instructions on your furnace’s safety label and in its manual. For an electric-ignition furnace, the WeatherKing 80+ user manual says, “Do not try to light the burners by hand.”
Do not remove service panels, touch wiring, adjust gas pressure, or bypass a safety device. The same manual says, “DO NOT jumper this switch,” referring to the flame-rollout safety switch. If it has tripped, have a qualified installer, service agency, or gas supplier investigate the cause. Disconnecting electrical power is required before maintenance described by the manual; follow the exact instructions for your model.

Confirm the thermostat is calling for heat
Check that it is set to heat and that the set temperature is above the room temperature. If the thermostat uses batteries, check them according to its instructions.

Check accessible power controls
Look at the furnace’s external switch and the household breaker. If a breaker has tripped again after being reset, do not keep resetting it; arrange service. Do not remove a panel to reach wiring or internal controls.

Record the light or display indication
If the furnace has a status light or display, note the number and rhythm of flashes, or the displayed code. Check any printed legend on the furnace door, then find the documentation for the exact model and control. The indication can report operating status as well as a fault, and meanings are not universal across WeatherKing models.

Inspect the accessible air filter
A dirty filter can restrict airflow and contribute to overheating or a shutdown. If it is dirty, clean or replace it only as directed by the filter and furnace instructions. Use the specified dimensions and type; there is no single filter size that fits every WeatherKing furnace. The 80+ manual gives cleaning instructions for a reusable filter, including thorough air-drying, but filter designs and access vary, so check your unit’s own manual first.

Look for an obvious outdoor obstruction from the ground
If your furnace has an accessible intake or exhaust termination, look from ground level for an obvious blockage. Do not climb, disassemble venting, or reach into the furnace. Persistent vent or draft problems need professional diagnosis.

What common symptoms can—and cannot—tell you
The furnace does nothing
Possible causes include a thermostat or control-signal issue, loss of incoming power, or a control fault. The accessible thermostat, switch, and breaker checks can rule out only some basic possibilities. If the furnace still does not respond, note any indicator and arrange service rather than opening the unit.
The blower runs, but the air is cool
This can involve ignition, flame proving, or a safety shutdown; it does not by itself identify a failed igniter, flame sensor, or control board. Record the fault indication and check the filter. If the problem continues, a technician needs to diagnose the cause.

Heat starts and then stops
Restricted airflow, an ignition or flame-proving problem, or another safety shutdown may produce intermittent heat. A clean filter may address an airflow restriction, but it will not resolve every ignition or safety fault. Repeated cycling or shutdowns call for service.
The control reports ignition lockout
Lockout means the control has stopped operation after an ignition or safety problem; it is not a component diagnosis. Trane’s general gas-furnace guidance lists possible causes such as a dirty or defective flame sensor, faulty ignitor, fuel-pressure issue, overheating, dirty filter, blocked venting, or faulty control board. This is general gas-furnace guidance, not a WeatherKing-specific diagnosis. Beyond checking the filter, leave diagnosis and repair to a qualified technician.

How to interpret a flashing light or displayed code
Use the exact model number and the matching manual or control documentation. Do not apply a code chart from another WeatherKing series: controls and code meanings can differ by model and generation. A WeatherKing W96T product document describes that particular series as having a 7-segment LED and direct-spark ignition; those details do not establish the controls on a different or older furnace.
- Record the full pattern or displayed code, including pauses, before the indication changes.
- Find the furnace model and serial number on its identification label, without removing a service panel.
- Look up the indication in documentation for that exact model and control, or give the recorded information to the service technician.
- Do not buy a sensor, igniter, pressure switch, or control board based on a code alone. The correct part depends on the model and on diagnosis of the underlying fault.
When to arrange professional service
Call a qualified HVAC professional for persistent lockout, repeated shutdowns, ignition trouble, suspected gas-pressure or combustion problems, electrical-control faults, or any tripped rollout switch. A reset is not a repair if the condition returns. The WeatherKing manual recommends annual inspection by a qualified installer, service agency, or gas supplier.
When choosing a provider, ask whether they are appropriately qualified and meet local licensing requirements, whether they have experience with your model or control system, and whether the diagnostic visit will identify the cause rather than simply reset the furnace. Request a written estimate, applicable warranty details, and confirmation that any proposed part is compatible with your full model number.
Finding the right filter or replacement part
For a filter, use the dimensions and type printed on the existing filter or specified in the unit manual; do not assume a universal WeatherKing size or rating. For any furnace repair component, provide the full model number and get a qualified diagnosis before ordering. A filter change can help when airflow is restricted, but it is not a general fix for ignition lockouts or other faults.
