Water Corporation’s $73 million project is a wastewater link—not a drinking-water pipeline—between Henley Brook and Wangara, comprising 14.2 km of new pipeline and upgrades to the Henley Brook pump station. Construction began in August 2024, and the published target was mid-2026. However, the project page checked on 8 October 2026 still lists pump-station upgrades as underway, so it does not confirm that the entire project is complete.
What is the Ellenbrook-to-Wangara project?
Water Corporation is building a new wastewater pipeline and upgrading the Henley Brook wastewater pump station to help move more wastewater for treatment as the Cities of Swan and Wanneroo grow. The project is valued at $73 million.
The pipeline is 14.2 km long. Water Corporation reports that it includes 6 km of single wastewater pipeline and 8.2 km of dual wastewater pipeline. The station works are near Gnangara Road and Drumpellier Drive. Water Corporation’s project page describes the pipeline and station upgrade as parts of the same project.
Where will the pipeline go?
The route runs from Barrambie Way in Henley Brook to Wangara, where it connects with the existing wastewater network in Madeley. The 2024 announcement describes the project as a pipeline between Ellenbrook and Wangara. Taken together, these descriptions place the works in Perth’s north-east growth area rather than indicating a direct pipe from central Ellenbrook.

Water Corporation said tunnelling beneath Gnangara Road, Mirrabooka Avenue, Hartman Drive and Tonkin Highway would help minimise traffic disruption during construction. Its 30 August 2024 announcement set out the project and those planned crossings.
Why is the infrastructure being built?
The new link is intended to convey wastewater safely for treatment and provide capacity for housing and population growth across the Swan and Wanneroo areas. The Water Corporation announcement named Ellenbrook, Brabham, Dayton and Caversham among the City of Swan growth-corridor suburbs the infrastructure is intended to support.

In the same 2024 release, Water Corporation reported that 11,500 people moved to Aveley, Ellenbrook, Bullsbrook, Beechboro and The Vines between 2019 and 2023, citing Australian Bureau of Statistics data. It also reported nearly 4,800 additional residents in nearby Brabham and Henley Brook over that period. The release projected that around 132,000 additional residents would call the City of Swan home by 2050; that figure is a projection attributed here to Water Corporation, not a direct ABS forecast.
Water Minister Simone McGurk said in the release: “Perth remains Australia’s fastest-growing capital city, which highlights the need for strong investment in essential service infrastructure.”

What is the construction status and schedule?
Water Corporation’s FAQ says construction began in August 2024 and gives an expected completion of mid-2026. Its project page, checked on 8 October 2026, lists the Henley Brook pump-station upgrades as underway and gives delivery as mid-2026. Because that target has passed and the page still reports work underway, the published information does not establish that all project work has been completed.
The 2024 announcement described the work as an 18-month project and estimated that it would generate 150 jobs. Those were original expectations; the cited material does not verify the final construction duration or jobs outcome. Water Corporation’s project FAQ contains the original start and expected-completion information.

What nearby residents and road users may experience
Water Corporation says construction can bring increased noise, dust and activity, and may temporarily affect roads, verges and pedestrian paths. It says it will coordinate with the Cities of Swan and Wanneroo and nearby residents and businesses, and reinstate affected areas like for like where practically possible. The project information does not provide a street-by-street disruption schedule in the cited material.
