Volvo Construction Equipment’s third quarter of 2026 was stronger underneath than the headline suggests. Volvo-brand demand, deliveries, sales, service and profitability all improved, while reported total construction-equipment volumes fell because the prior-year comparison still included SDLG, which Volvo divested on September 1, 2025. The key forward-looking question is North America: Volvo forecasts construction-equipment market growth of 0% to 10% there in 2027, with data-center building, energy infrastructure and manufacturing onshoring supporting demand.
Why was Volvo CE’s Q3 2026 mixed?
The quarter combines genuine Volvo-brand growth with a distorted total-portfolio comparison. The total construction-equipment line is not like-for-like because SDLG was part of the year-earlier base but is absent from the current figures.

That is why a simple reading of the total-order and total-delivery declines would be misleading. On the continuing Volvo-brand business, orders and deliveries increased, and sales growth was faster on an organic basis than on the reported basis.
What improved Volvo CE’s profitability?
Volvo CE said the earnings improvement reflected a better product mix, service growth and lower net U.S. tariff costs after a refund related to the U.S. International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Adjusted operating income therefore rose even though management continues to face inflationary pressure and higher energy and raw-material costs.

Volvo’s market table puts North American construction-equipment demand in a 0% to 10% growth range for 2027. The range is unchanged from the company’s prior 2026 range, so it is a scenario band rather than a single-point forecast or a promise that Volvo’s own unit sales will rise by the top of the range.

Do not substitute the separate Volvo Group truck forecast for the CE outlook. The Q3 report lists North American heavy-duty truck retail sales of 300,000 for 2027 versus a 265,000 forecast for 2026; those figures describe the truck market, not construction equipment.
Are data centers lifting Volvo excavator demand?
Volvo CE identifies data-center construction, energy infrastructure and manufacturing onshoring as reasons North American demand has remained resilient. These projects can require excavation, material handling and larger wheel-loader capacity, but the company presents them as demand supports rather than a quantified forecast for any single machine type.
Supply capacity is also being expanded. Volvo’s Shippensburg, Pennsylvania facility produced its first U.S.-built excavators and larger wheel loaders in August. That is a regional manufacturing and responsiveness measure; it does not establish that every Volvo model is now built locally or that the market will reach the upper end of the 2027 range.

What happened in Europe, the Middle East and South America?
