Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor a fall craft you can start right away, make paint prints with freshly fallen leaves. If you have time to prepare leaves first, pressing them opens the way to hanging ornaments, bunting, bookmarks, and other decorations. Collect leaves from the ground, not the trees, and choose a project based on how long you want to wait.
Quick autumn leaf craft: make paint prints
Leaf printing needs only freshly fallen leaves, paper, poster paint, and a paintbrush. The National Trust for Scotland’s leaf-printing activity uses the leaf’s underside to capture its shape and veins.
- Brush paint over the underside of a leaf.
- Place the leaf paint-side down on paper and press gently so it makes contact across the surface.
- Lift the leaf to reveal the print. Repeat with different leaves or colors if you like.
This is the quickest option because the leaves do not need to be dried or flattened first.
Choose a preparation method for pressed-leaf crafts
Pressed leaves need time to flatten and dry. A dedicated flower press is optional: the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) describes using a heavy book as an alternative, with kitchen or tissue paper around the leaves. Its guide gives two to four weeks as a typical drying time, depending on leaf size, moisture, and thickness. See the RHS pressing instructions for both approaches.

Make wax-paper leaf ornaments
For a hanging or tabletop decoration, the Peabody Essex Museum’s leaf ornament activity seals dry leaves between sheets of wax paper. - Place the leaves between two sheets of wax paper.
- Put a dishcloth beneath the wax paper and another on top. Iron gently on the lowest setting, keeping the iron off the bare wax paper. The museum recommends the cloth barrier to help prevent wax from melting onto the iron.
- When the sheets are sealed, cut around each leaf, leaving about half an inch of wax-paper margin.
- If you want to hang an ornament, punch a hole through the margin and add string.
The RHS cautions: “Please ensure only adults or older children handle the iron.” Keep an adult in charge of ironing, and follow the activity’s cloth-barrier instructions.
Make pressed-leaf bunting

Wax-paper sealing is one way to preserve a fallen leaf for a craft, but the sources do not establish that leaves will keep their color indefinitely. Avoid treating paraffin dipping as a casual alternative: Texas Parks and Wildlife warns that overheated paraffin can burst into flame and melted paraffin can cause burns. See its autumn leaves guidance for that heat-related caution.
