TP-Link used CES 2025 to present a much broader Tapo smart-home strategy, spanning access control, lighting, security monitoring, outdoor cameras and robot cleaning. The announced lineup included a palm-vein smart lock, a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Mesh lighting system, an NVR security platform, three distinctive camera concepts and a robot vacuum with water purification and recycling features.
However, this was a product showcase—not confirmation that every device was shipping. The January 6, 2025 announcement did not provide final prices, release dates, U.S. availability, subscription terms or platform compatibility for the individual products. BetaNews reported that pricing and availability were expected closer to launch.

PalmKey: an unusual approach to smart-lock access
The PalmKey lock stood out because TP-Link said it uses palm-vein recognition. The company also described it as working with wet, dry or dirty hands—an attempt to address one practical weakness of some biometric systems.
Palm recognition could be convenient, but the announcement does not establish how accurate or secure the system is. There were no published false-acceptance or false-rejection rates, details about spoof resistance, or information about whether biometric templates are stored locally or in the cloud.
Before considering it for a real entrance, buyers would need to confirm deadbolt compatibility, installation requirements, battery life, emergency access, physical-key or keypad backup, guest credentials, enrollment deletion and ANSI/BHMA certification. A smart lock should always have a usable fallback when the app, battery or internet connection fails.
Atom-Link: improving lighting connectivity, not automatically adding Matter
Atom-Link combines Wi-Fi with Bluetooth Mesh and was described as supporting Tapo bulbs, downlights and switches. The proposed benefit is better control where a conventional Wi-Fi network does not reach reliably.
Rank #2
- 【Matter: All-Round Compatibility】With Matter, users are no longer tied to specific platforms and works with all certified smart home platforms, such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings. You can control all your smart home devices from a single app, reducing the need for multiple apps for different devices.
- 【Matter: Smooth LAN Control】With Matter, all devices in your LAN communicate efficiently, even if your internet goes offline. A direct device-to-device interaction eliminates the need for a 'forwarding' device. For instance, a Matter switch or sensor can control a Matter bulb without any cloud service. Once set up, direct communication between Matter devices on your local network is easily achieved.
- 【Matter: Multi-Admin】Matter also allows you to control devices via multiple smart home systems at the same time through its Multi-Admin feature. That means you can turn on your lights from the SmartThings app on a Samsung smartphone, dim them by asking Alexa on an Amazon Echo speaker, and then turn them off from the Apple Home app on an iPad.
- 【App-Guided Install】The Tapo app guides you through step-by-step setup. Requires neutral wiring and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Consulting an electrician is recommended if you’re unfamiliar with electrical wiring.
- 【Voice Control】Enjoy the hands-free convenience of controlling the lights in your home with your voice via Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant. Perfect for times when your hands are full or entering a dark room.
Bluetooth Mesh and Matter are different technologies. Atom-Link’s announcement does not confirm Matter certification or support for Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Home Assistant or SmartThings. It also does not establish whether a separate hub is required, how devices behave during an internet outage, or how the mesh handles difficult building layouts.
For a large home, the important questions are whether control remains local, how many devices the system supports, whether switches require a neutral wire and whether scenes and schedules continue working when the internet is unavailable.
NVR and camera expansion
Tapo NVR Security System
TP-Link presented the NVR as a centralized security system with continuous monitoring, live multi-camera streaming, secure local storage and AI recognition. The announced AI categories included people, pets and vehicles.
Recommended Free Tools
Local recording can be valuable because it may reduce dependence on cloud storage and recurring fees. It does not automatically make the entire system local, subscription-free or independent of the internet. Remote viewing, push notifications and some AI functions may still require an account or cloud service.

Before buying, confirm the storage medium and capacity, encryption, supported camera count, retention period, recording export formats and offline behavior. It is also important to know whether footage remains accessible if the NVR fails and whether the cameras are locked to Tapo hardware.
Tapo C4086B
The C4086B was described as using ColorPro Night Vision. That name identifies a feature or product technology, but it is not proof of a particular resolution, color accuracy, sensor size or identification range. Buyers should wait for a specification sheet and independent testing before treating it as a decisive advantage over infrared cameras.
SolarCam and HybridCam Duo
The Ultra-Long-Distance Wireless SolarCam targets outdoor locations with limited connectivity. Solar power can simplify installation, but it does not mean unlimited operation. Runtime depends on sunlight, panel orientation, shade, weather, battery capacity, temperature, motion frequency and recording mode. The phrase “ultra-long-distance” also needs a verified range, antenna configuration and line-of-sight conditions.
The HybridCam Duo uses two lenses to provide a wide-area view and distant detail simultaneously. That may be helpful for a large yard, farm or driveway, but two lenses do not eliminate blind spots or provide the placement flexibility of two independently positioned cameras. Night glare, fences, distance and false AI detections remain practical concerns.

RV70 Pro Ultra brings Tapo into robot cleaning
The RV70 Pro Ultra is a robot vacuum and mop with a station TP-Link described as purifying and recycling water. The announcement also attributed humidity regulation and odor neutralization to the dock.
The idea could reduce the frequency of handling mop water, but “recycles water” needs clarification. It could mean filtering and reusing water, or it could refer primarily to separating clean and dirty water. Buyers would need to know how often filters, brushes, bags and tanks require service, whether plumbing is necessary, and what replacement parts and consumables will cost.
Other unanswered questions include carpet behavior, mop lifting, thresholds, pet-hair performance, obstacle avoidance, noise and the practical meaning of the humidity feature. The robot-cleaning category already includes specialists such as Roborock, Dreame, Ecovacs and Eufy, so Tapo’s app integration alone will not establish cleaning performance.
Why the announcement matters
TP-Link has long been associated with networking and connected devices. This lineup points toward a more vertically integrated Tapo strategy:
Best Value
- 【Matter-Certified】Matter-certified devices, regardless of brand, can work together and are compatible with most major smart home platforms like Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. Enjoy more flexible and unified control.
- 【Insightful Energy Tracking】 Monitor your energy consumption with in-depth statistics and clear visuals, helping you optimize power usage.
- 【Estimate Your Energy Bill】 Enhance energy management by integrating with billing systems for clear cost visualization (both single and periodic readings). Additionally, programmable scheduling allows automatic operation of high-consumption devices during off-peak hours with lower electricity rates, resulting in cost savings.
- 【Overcharge Prevention & Power Management】 Automatically cuts off power based on user-set thresholds and durations to prevent overcharging, conserve energy, and protect connected devices from overcurrents by shutting off when power exceeds set limits.
- 【Voice & Remote Control】 With built-in support for both Alexa and Google Assistant, issue simple voice commands to adjust settings, turn devices on or off, or even access specific functions without lifting a finger. Manage Tapo P110M and its connected devices from anywhere with the user-friendly Tapo app.
- Entry: the PalmKey lock.
- Ambience: Atom-Link lighting.
- Security: the NVR, cameras, solar connectivity and dual-lens surveillance.
- Household automation: the RV70 Pro Ultra.
- Control: the Tapo app.
That creates a product ecosystem: several devices managed in one vendor app. It does not necessarily create a true cross-platform ecosystem in which products interoperate freely with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Matter or other systems. Nor does it prove that hardware, cloud services, firmware, storage and accounts can be used independently.
The benefit is convenience—one app for onboarding, scenes, alerts and device management. The trade-off is lock-in. Locks, cameras and robot vacuums are expensive and disruptive to replace, making firmware support, privacy controls, spare parts and service availability more important than they are for a smart bulb.
What buyers should verify before purchasing

- Country-specific availability, especially in the United States.
- Subscription requirements for recording, remote access and AI detection.
- Local-storage capacity, encryption and footage export.
- Support for Matter and major third-party platforms.
- Offline behavior during internet and power outages.
- Security certifications and fallback entry methods for the lock.
- Biometric enrollment, deletion and data-storage policies.
- Solar-camera battery capacity, weather rating and verified wireless range.
- Robot-dock maintenance, plumbing requirements and replacement-part availability.
- Expected firmware-support period and warranty terms.
How the lineup compares by category
For security, Ring and Arlo offer established camera ecosystems but may involve cloud plans and greater cloud dependence. Philips Hue and Nanoleaf are more established lighting alternatives for buyers prioritizing lighting depth. Yale, Schlage, Aqara and Lockly provide other approaches to smart-lock access, while Home Assistant and Matter-based products may suit buyers who prioritize cross-brand interoperability and local control.
These are category alternatives, not performance rankings. The CES announcement did not provide enough information for a product-for-product comparison.
Availability remains the central caveat
The CES coverage did not confirm prices, launch dates, U.S. retail availability, subscription plans or final specifications for the announced devices. It also did not establish whether the products were finished retail products, prototypes or preproduction units. The same uncertainty applies to compatibility claims, storage details, certifications and independent performance.
TP-Link’s official U.S. entry point is tp-link.com/us, but an exact model should be treated as commercially available only when an official product page or launch notice confirms it.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: TP-Link’s CES 2025 lineup was significant because it broadened Tapo from a collection of connected devices into a more ambitious smart-home ecosystem. The palm-vein lock, hybrid lighting architecture, local-storage NVR and specialized outdoor cameras address real installation and control problems. But the announcement alone does not prove availability, price, performance, privacy practices or open-platform compatibility. Treat these products as announced concepts until TP-Link provides model-specific retail documentation.
