Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The Ti-Scout is a compact, triangular multitool built around stacked plates rather than the familiar plier-and-handle layout. Rotate its top plate to reveal features beneath it, including a compass, level, ambient thermometer, fire-starting tools, magnifier, pry bar and bottle opener. That unusual arrangement makes it distinctive, but its small format and maker-stated performance limits matter as much as the shape.
How the Ti-Scout’s triangular design works
New Atlas described the folded Ti-Scout as 62 × 58 × 19 mm (2.4 × 2.3 × 0.7 inches). The plates are joined at a pivot near one corner; turning the upper plate aside exposes functions below. A further plate beneath the magnifier is described as scratch protection. New Atlas calls it an eight-tool design, while its component-by-component account names the features below; the descriptions do not establish how every feature is counted toward eight.
This is not a conventional plier-based multitool. It is better understood as a compact set of small tools and reference features arranged in layers. New Atlas also notes a ratcheting sound at the stainless-steel pivot, a descriptive observation rather than evidence of durability.
What tools and features are included?
- Compass and bubble level: for basic orientation and leveling.
- Metric and imperial ambient thermometer: intended to read surrounding air temperature.
- Magnifying glass: can focus sunlight onto tinder, subject to the light conditions described by the maker.
- Removable magnesium fire-starting rod: the maker recommends it as the fire-starting option in cloudy conditions.
- Pry bar and bottle opener: small utility features integrated into the plates.
- Two slots for optional tritium vials: these are accessory positions, not included tools.
The maker also describes an optional titanium hanging clasp and a leather carrying case. They are accessories, not part of the listed core functions.

Materials, dimensions and weight
New Atlas reported three material versions and their weights in 2025. The material characterizations in the final column come from the maker’s campaign FAQ and are promotional comparisons, not independent material tests.
| Version | Reported weight | Maker’s material description |
|---|---|---|
| Titanium | 88 g (New Atlas, 2025) | Lightest and corrosion-resistant, according to the maker’s 2025 FAQ |
| Stainless steel | 153 g (New Atlas, 2025) | A balance of wear resistance and value, according to the maker’s 2025 FAQ |
| Brass | 165 g (New Atlas, 2025) | Naturally oxidizes and develops patina, according to the maker’s 2025 FAQ |
The reported folded dimensions—62 × 58 × 19 mm—are given for the tool generally; New Atlas does not state separate dimensions by material. The weights are not a substitute for a head-to-head assessment of how the versions hold up in use.
How to calibrate the compass
In its campaign FAQ, the maker says to hold the Ti-Scout horizontally and rotate it through 360 degrees twice. This is the maker’s calibration instruction, not an independently verified procedure. For navigation where a wrong bearing would have consequences, use a dependable compass and confirm direction with other means rather than relying on this small integrated compass alone.
Can the magnifier start a fire on a cloudy day?
The maker’s FAQ says the magnifying glass needs direct sunlight and is ineffective in cloudy light. It says dry tinder may ignite after focusing sunlight for 10 seconds; that is a maker claim, not a guaranteed ignition time. The FAQ recommends using the magnesium rod in cloudy conditions.

The same FAQ estimates that the magnesium rod can be scratched about 10,000 times. The maker says to replace it by sliding the side cover and inserting a new rod, and says replacement packs are offered. Neither the strike-life estimate nor the ignition performance is established by an independent test in the cited coverage.
What does the thermometer measure, and how accurate is it?
The maker says the thermometer measures ambient temperature, not body temperature, and gives an accuracy of ±2°C. For the most accurate reading, the FAQ advises not holding the tool and leaving it suspended or still for three minutes. The accuracy figure is a maker claim; New Atlas did not report independent testing.
How much force can the pry bar take?
The maker’s FAQ says the steel crowbar can withstand 500 N of pulling force, described there as about 50 kg, and cautions against violent use. This is a stated pulling-force claim only; it should not be treated as a general load rating for prying, levering, striking or other uses. The cited material does not include independent force testing.

Kickstarter lists the campaign period as July 8 through August 2, 2025, and shows that it ended funded. The campaign result and a third-party tracker give conflicting aggregate totals, so a precise amount pledged or backer count cannot be stated reliably from those sources. The campaign FAQ, last updated June 21, 2025, expected production to finish in early November and described global direct mail to backers; that past estimate does not establish present delivery status or retail availability.
No current retail price, stock status or authoritative current retail listing is established here. Check the maker or a current seller directly before relying on availability or price.
Who might find the design useful?
The Ti-Scout’s strongest distinction is its layered, rotating layout and combination of small utility features. It may appeal to someone who wants a compact novelty-oriented EDC or outdoor accessory and values a compass, level, opener and fire-starting options in one object. It is not a like-for-like replacement for a plier-based multitool, and the maker’s performance claims should be treated as claims rather than tested ratings. A practical comparison with another compact tool should consider material and weight, folded size, how its functions deploy, and the limits of its compass, thermometer and fire-starting features.
