There is no single best stainless steel cookware set for every kitchen. Good Housekeeping’s 2026 picks favor Hestan NanoBond overall and Tramontina for value; Food Network’s 2026 guide names Open Kitchen overall and T-Fal Pro for value. The right choice depends on the pans you will use, how the cookware is built, and which tradeoffs—such as weight, cleanup, and care—you can live with.
How the published reviews reached their picks
These recommendations come from two publishers’ separate evaluations, not a single head-to-head test. Good Housekeeping says its Kitchen & Cooking Lab has tested more than 170 cookware sets since 2015. Its evaluation covers ply, heat distribution, searing, simmering, boiling speed, comfort, handle temperature, and cleanability. Food Network says it unboxed and assessed 15 sets in 2026, considering construction, weight, handle comfort, design, manuals, assortment, and real-world cooking, including gravy, risotto, and seared chicken.
Because the guides used their own methods and categories, their winners should be read as attributed recommendations—not as a shared ranking. Their results also show why the highest ply count or the largest piece total alone cannot identify the best set.

What the individual sets did well—and where they compromise
Hestan NanoBond: Good Housekeeping’s overall pick
Good Housekeeping reports even heating and browning, easy cleanup, dishwasher safety, and oven safety up to 1,050°F. It also notes the price is high and the surface may darken over time. Check the manufacturer’s current care guidance and oven limit for the exact set before use.

Tramontina Gourmet Tri-Ply Clad: Good Housekeeping’s value pick
Good Housekeeping reports that the skillet heated more evenly than most skillets in its testing. In that guide’s stockpot test, the Tramontina pot boiled six quarts of water in under 18 minutes on both gas and induction. The set is listed as dishwasher-safe and oven-safe to 500°F. Its interior rivets can collect food, so expect to pay attention to cleanup around the handles.
All-Clad D3: Good Housekeeping’s tri-ply pick
Good Housekeeping describes three layers: stainless steel inside and outside with an aluminum core. The guide reports even heating and browning, but calls the set heavy and notes that residue can be difficult to clean around the rivets. It also says All-Clad recommends handwashing.
Cuisinart MultiClad Pro: Good Housekeeping’s mid-priced pick
The 12-piece set includes a steamer insert. Good Housekeeping reports relatively even heat; in its stockpot test, six quarts boiled in under 14 minutes on induction and in 18 minutes on gas. The guide also observed some tarnishing after high-heat use.

Made In: different set sizes, different editorial labels
Good Housekeeping names the Made In Starter Stainless Steel 6-Piece its restaurant-quality pick. It describes five-ply construction, even heating, and an included nonstick skillet, while noting that the stainless skillet was harder to clean in its tests. Food Network separately names a Made In 10-Piece set its splurge pick; the two recommendations refer to different set sizes and categories.

Viking: Good Housekeeping’s starter pick
Good Housekeeping reports good heat distribution and comfortable handling for the Viking 3-Ply Stainless Steel 10-Piece. Its scorch test found that the saucepan lid became hot, a practical reminder to use care when handling lids during cooking.
Food Network’s other category picks
Food Network names Open Kitchen Stainless Steel 10-Piece overall, T-Fal Pro Tri-Ply for value, Heritage Steel Eater 10-Piece 5-Ply for pro-grade use, and Goldilocks 8-Piece Try-Ply Plus as a starter set. For T-Fal, the guide describes tri-ply bonded to the rim and an assortment of two fry pans, two saucepans, a sauté pan, and a stockpot. That specific assortment is useful to compare against your own cooking; do not assume every set’s piece count uses the same convention.
Rank #3
- Impact-bonded aluminum base distributes heat evenly, for exceptional browning, searing, and sauteing
- Stainless steel long handles stay cool on the stovetop
- Convenient measuring marks, pour spouts, and straining covers allow you to cook with efficiency
- Dishwasher-safe for easy cleanup
- Oven-safe up to 450 degrees F, so you can easily go from stovetop to the oven
How to choose a set that fits your kitchen
Check the pan assortment, not just the piece count
List the pans you actually need: for example, a skillet for searing, saucepans for smaller portions, and a stockpot for larger batches. Then check the capacity and shape of each included vessel. Some brands count lids toward the advertised total, so separate cookware pieces from accessories before comparing sets. Food Network specifically advises checking actual contents rather than relying on the number on the box.
Understand clad construction
In fully clad cookware, the bonded layers extend up the pan walls; some cookware instead concentrates its layers in a disk at the base. Compare the construction description for each model, including ply count and the materials in its layers. A higher ply count is not, by itself, proof of better cooking performance: the guides’ model-specific results and handling observations vary.

Weigh handling against performance
Weight, handle shape, helper handles, lid temperature, and how securely a pan feels in your grip can matter as much as a test result. If possible, handle a comparable pan before buying, especially if you have limited strength or frequently move full pots. Good Housekeeping’s D3 notes illustrate the tradeoff: the guide reports even heating and browning but also calls the set heavy.
Rank #4
- COOKWARE SET: The Cuisinart 12-Piece Cookware Set includes a 1.5-quart saucepan with lid, 3-quart saucepan with lid, 3.5-quart sauté pan with helper handle and lid, 8-quart stockpot with lid, 8" skillet, 10" skillet, and 20cm steamer insert with lid.
- DURABLE DESIGN: Professional triple ply construction features a core of pure aluminum and brushed stainless finish. Heat Surround technology allows for even heat distribution along the bottom and sidewalls of the cookware.
- COOKING AND CLEANING: Making for easy cleaning, polished cooking surface does not discolor, react with food, or alter flavors. Tight-fitting stainless steel lids seal in food's natural juices and nutrients for more flavorful results.
- OVEN SAFE: This stainless steel cookware set is safe up to 500°F with rims tapered for a drip-free pouring experience. Suitable for use with induction cook tops as well.
- COOL GRIP HANDLES: The Cuisinart stainless steel cookware set features Cool Grip handles secured with stainless steel rivets, self-basting, and tight-fitting lids.
Match care and heat limits to your routine
Check the exact set’s oven limit, dishwasher guidance, cooktop compatibility, and warranty in its manufacturer instructions. Published guidance differs: Good Housekeeping lists Tramontina and Cuisinart as dishwasher-safe but says All-Clad recommends handwashing. Do not assume a care instruction or temperature limit for one model applies to another, even within a brand.
Compare value by useful pieces and upkeep
A lower-cost set is not automatically the better value if it duplicates pans you own or omits a shape you need. Factor in storage footprint, lid storage, cleanup around rivets, and how you plan to remove stains or discoloration. Prices and stock change, so compare current listings for the exact model and set size rather than treating an editorial label as a price guarantee.

Reduce sticking without seasoning
Stainless steel is not inherently nonstick. Food Network recommends preheating the pan first, then adding oil or another fat before the food. Stainless cookware does not need cast-iron-style seasoning.

Loosen residue and address discoloration
For stubborn food residue, Food Network suggests simmering water in the pan to help loosen it. Baking soda or a cleaner such as Bar Keepers Friend may help with discoloration. Follow the cookware maker’s care instructions and the cleaner’s label; stainless steel can stick, stain, or discolor, and the reviews do not establish that any set will remain mark-free.
Which pick is the most sensible starting point?
If your first priority is a value recommendation with reported heat performance and a clearly described limitation, compare Good Housekeeping’s Tramontina pick with Food Network’s T-Fal Pro. Tramontina has the more specific published heat-test details in the available guide, while Food Network details T-Fal’s tri-ply-to-rim construction and pan assortment. If you prioritize an overall pick, the publications disagree: Good Housekeeping names Hestan NanoBond, while Food Network names Open Kitchen. Use the model-specific tradeoffs and the set’s actual contents to make the final call.
