The Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Power Strip HS300 was the best overall smart power strip for 2024, thanks to six independently controllable AC outlets, three USB ports, and energy monitoring. The Kasa KP303 was the better budget choice for Alexa and Google Assistant users, while the Meross MSS425FHK offered the broadest smart-home compatibility. Apple-focused buyers who prioritized documented electrical protection could choose the Eve Energy Strip.
For a construction office, workshop, or temporary project setup, do not compare these products by socket count alone. Check how many outlets are independently switched, whether the strip measures energy, which smart-home platform it supports, whether a hub is required, and whether its electrical rating suits the equipment you intend to connect.

1. Kasa HS300: best overall
The Kasa HS300 is the strongest all-purpose choice when you need several separately controlled devices in one location. Its six AC outlets can be switched independently, and it adds three USB ports and energy monitoring.
#1 Best Overall
- Surge protection: ETL-certified surge protection shields sensitive electronics and appliances from sudden power surges.
That layout suits a home office, media center, gaming station, estimating desk, or construction-project command center. You can schedule or remotely switch a monitor, printer, display, charger, or other connected equipment without turning everything off together. Energy monitoring is useful for identifying standby consumption, although the available product information does not establish that every connected outlet provides a separate, utility-grade measurement.
The HS300 supports Alexa and Google Assistant and uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Apple Home/HomeKit support is not established on the official product page, so Apple users should not buy it expecting native Home integration.
Buy it if: you want the most independently controllable outlets in this group, need energy information, and use Alexa or Google Assistant.
Avoid it if: Apple Home compatibility is a requirement or you need battery backup for computers and networking equipment.
2. Kasa KP303: best budget option
The Kasa KP303 is the simpler and cheaper Kasa choice. It provides three individually controlled smart outlets, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility.
It is well suited to a small desk, entertainment unit, or compact work area where three switched outlets are enough. Schedules and remote switching can handle straightforward tasks such as turning chargers or selected office equipment on and off.
The trade-off is important: the KP303 does not provide energy monitoring, and TechRadar’s review identifies the lack of Apple HomeKit support. It is therefore a switching product, not an energy-analysis tool or an Apple Home accessory.

3. Meross MSS425FHK: best for broad smart-home compatibility
The Meross MSS425FHK is the most flexible platform choice in this comparison. Its four AC outlets are independently controllable, and its four USB ports are controlled as one group rather than individually.
It supports Apple HomeKit, Siri, Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings. The product supports 2.4 GHz or dual-band Wi-Fi routers and is rated for a maximum device load of 15 amps. Meross also lists flame-retardant material and ETL and FCC certification; these are manufacturer-stated specifications and certifications, not a substitute for independent safety testing.

4. Eve Energy Strip: best premium Apple and privacy-focused pick
The Eve Energy Strip is aimed at Apple Home users who want three individually controllable outlets, energy-use information, and clearly documented protection features.
For the U.S. and Canada, Eve lists a 120-volt, 60-hertz rating with a maximum load of 15 amps or 1,800 watts. It also lists surge protection rated at 30,000 amps, along with overcurrent and overvoltage protection. Those figures describe the manufacturer’s stated protection features; they do not make the strip a UPS or guarantee protection from every electrical event.
The U.S./Canadian Eve Energy Strip is a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi product, not a Thread product. Eve’s product-identification information distinguishes it from newer Eve devices that use Thread and Matter. Remote HomeKit control requires a HomePod or Apple TV home hub.
Eve positions the strip around privacy and operation without an Eve cloud account for core functions. That is a manufacturer privacy position, not evidence of an independently audited security ranking. The strip is also relatively expensive for three outlets and does not emphasize USB charging.
Buy it if: you are primarily invested in Apple Home and value documented surge, overcurrent, and overvoltage protection.
Avoid it if: you need six outlets, extensive USB charging, or the lowest price per smart outlet.
5. Tapo P300: a regional alternative
The Tapo P300 has three individually controllable outlets and lists HomeKit, Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant support. It uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth used during setup.

It should not be treated as a universal U.S. recommendation. Availability, plug format, certifications, firmware, and platform support can vary by region. TP-Link’s regional documentation places the P300 in markets such as the U.K. and Australia rather than presenting it as a standard U.S. model. Confirm the exact regional version and retailer availability before purchasing.
Buy it if: you are in a supported market and have verified the exact model’s electrical and platform specifications.

What makes a power strip smart?
A smart power strip normally adds remote on/off control, schedules, timers, voice-assistant integration, and automations through a vendor app or smart-home platform. Better models let you control outlets separately rather than switching the entire strip as one unit. Some also report energy use.
Do not assume that USB ports are separate smart channels. On the Meross MSS425FHK, the four AC outlets are individually controlled but the four USB ports operate as a group. Before buying, count physical AC outlets, independently switched AC outlets, group-switched USB ports, and any always-on ports.
Energy monitoring: read the claim carefully
“Energy monitoring” can mean different things:
- Whole-strip monitoring: one combined reading for everything connected.
- Per-outlet monitoring: separate readings for individual devices.
- App-only history: data displayed in the manufacturer’s software but not necessarily exposed to every smart-home platform.
- Energy-saving automation: schedules that reduce runtime without measuring consumption.
The HS300 officially advertises energy monitoring, and Eve advertises energy-use information. The available evidence does not establish the exact 2024 presentation or per-outlet measurement behavior for every model. Do not buy a strip expecting appliance-by-appliance analysis unless the manufacturer or a credible test specifically confirms it.
HomeKit, Alexa, Google, Matter, Thread, and Wi-Fi
Voice control is not the same as full smart-home-platform support. A strip may respond to Alexa or Google Assistant while remaining absent from Apple Home. Conversely, HomeKit compatibility does not mean remote control works without a home hub.
Best Value
- 8-OUTLET SURGE PROTECTION: Safeguard your valuable electronics with 8 outlets, including 6 smart outlets for individual control and 2 always-on outlets for essential devices.
- 1200 JOULE SURGE PROTECTION: Rest assured that your devices are shielded from damaging power surges with surge protection up to 1200 joules.
- SMART CONTROL AND AUTOMATION: Conveniently control your smart outlets from anywhere using the Geeni app or voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
- EXTENDED POWER REACH: A 6-foot cord provides ample reach to connect your devices, ensuring convenient placement and eliminating cord clutter.
- NO HUB REQUIRED: Seamlessly integrate the Surge Ultra into your smart home ecosystem without the need for a hub. Simply connect to your home Wi-Fi and start managing your devices right away.
Most prominent smart strips in the 2024 shortlist were Wi-Fi products, commonly requiring a 2.4 GHz network. Matter and Thread should not be treated as synonyms: Matter is an application-layer interoperability standard, while Thread is a low-power networking technology. Matter can operate over Wi-Fi or Thread. Thread products require a compatible Thread Border Router, and Matter products require a compatible Matter controller.
In particular, do not label the U.S. Eve Energy Strip as Thread-based. It is identified as Wi-Fi, while newer Eve products use different wireless technologies.
Surge protection is not a UPS
A smart strip can provide switching and, on some models, protection against specified electrical conditions. It does not automatically provide battery backup, voltage regulation, or protection from every surge.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The Eve Energy Strip explicitly lists surge, overcurrent, and overvoltage protection. Meross lists its own protection, materials, load rating, and certifications for the MSS425FHK. For any model, look for the exact protection claims, maximum load, safety listing, and joule rating if disclosed. Do not infer equivalent protection from the phrase “smart power strip” alone.
For computers, routers, network storage, security systems, and other equipment that must remain powered during an outage, use a properly sized UPS instead.
Wi-Fi setup and offline behavior
Common setup requirements include a 2.4 GHz network, the manufacturer’s mobile app, a phone connected to the correct network, and—on some products—Bluetooth enabled during pairing. Captive-portal and enterprise Wi-Fi networks can prevent setup. The Tapo P300 specifically lists Bluetooth for setup.
Offline behavior is model-specific. The available product information does not independently verify whether each strip continues schedules, accepts local-network commands, or requires cloud access when the internet is unavailable. Do not assume that HomeKit support, privacy messaging, or a Wi-Fi connection makes a strip local-only. If offline operation is important, verify it in the exact model’s documentation or test it before relying on the strip for critical equipment.

Safety limits for construction and workshop use
- Check the total load of connected equipment against the strip’s maximum rating.
- Do not use a smart strip for high-wattage heaters or other large heating loads unless the product is explicitly rated for that application.
- Do not plug one power strip into another.
- Use extra caution with refrigerators, freezers, pumps, medical equipment, and other appliances that could be damaged by an unintended power cycle.
- Keep the strip dry and protected from dust, impact, solvents, and jobsite conditions unless it is specifically rated for them.
- Remote shutoff is not the same as electrical isolation. Follow applicable electrical codes and use proper lockout and disconnect procedures where required.
A residential smart strip is generally better suited to an office, charging station, or finished workspace than to an exposed construction site. For temporary power, use equipment designed and approved for the environment and load.
When individual smart plugs are better
A conventional surge protector combined with one or two individual smart plugs can be more flexible than an all-in-one strip. This arrangement makes sense when only one or two devices need control or energy monitoring, when outlet spacing is awkward, or when you want to replace one failed smart component without discarding the whole strip.
The disadvantages are extra cost, more cables, and a less tidy installation. A UPS is the better alternative for backup power, while a whole-home or circuit-level monitor is better for serious utility-bill and project-energy analysis.
