The roundup names ten products; this guide covers its nine pool-cleaning robots and leaves out the Betta SE Plus, a robotic surface skimmer rather than a conventional cleaner for pool floors and walls. Check each model’s current specifications, price, warranty and availability before buying.
Which nine models are included?
Bob Vila’s 2026 roundup reports testing more than 40 robotic pool cleaners and identifies ten picks. The table below presents the nine conventional pool-cleaning robots from that list. The category labels are Bob Vila’s; they are not independent recommendations or test findings for this article. The source comparison reports pool type, cable or runtime, cleaning time and rating, but those values are not reproduced here because they should be checked against the current listing before purchase.
| Model | Bob Vila’s category label |
|---|---|
| Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus | Overall |
| Aiper Seagull SE | Value |
| Mova Rover X10 | Upgrade |
| Aiper Scuba X1 | Algae |
| Beatbot Sora 70 | All-in-one |
| Beatbot AquaSense 2 | AI navigation |
| Polaris P70 | Above-ground |
| Polaris 9650iQ Sport | Inground |
| Wybot C2 | Fine debris |
These labels describe how Bob Vila positioned the picks in its roundup; they do not establish that each model is best for every pool fitting that description. Bob Vila’s article also includes the Betta SE Plus as a robotic skimmer. It is omitted here because surface skimming is a different job from cleaning a pool’s submerged surfaces. See Bob Vila’s full 2026 roundup for its test account and complete list.
How to choose the right cleaner for your pool
Start with pool type and size
Confirm that the product is intended for your pool type—above-ground or inground—and that its stated capacity covers your pool’s dimensions. Check any limitations on shape or depth in the manufacturer’s current product information. A category label in a roundup is not a substitute for checking the model’s rating and compatibility.

Check which surfaces it cleans
“Pool cleaner” does not tell you whether a model handles only the floor or also climbs walls, reaches the waterline, or cleans steps. Compare those coverage claims with the areas that collect debris in your pool. Do not assume a floor-and-wall robot skims the water surface; a dedicated robotic skimmer, such as the separately listed Betta SE Plus, serves a different function.
Weigh corded operation against battery charging
A corded cleaner avoids a battery charging cycle but leaves a cable to manage. A cordless unit removes the cable from the pool but makes stated runtime and charging time practical constraints: confirm that the available cleaning time suits your pool and routine. Product guides cover a mix of corded and battery-powered models; confirm the exact configuration for the product and region you are considering. Maytronics’ 2026 comparison and WIRED’s 2026 guide discuss models and features, but manufacturer and publisher descriptions should not be treated as interchangeable evidence.

Match filtration to the debris you actually get
Fine particles and larger debris can call for different filtration and debris-handling capabilities. Check the manufacturer’s description of the filter and basket, how debris is removed, and how accessible the filter is for routine cleaning. A guide’s test result applies to that publisher’s specific test conditions; it does not guarantee the same performance in another pool.
Account for lifting and maintenance
Consider how often you will lift the cleaner out, empty it and rinse its filter. Weight and filter access can shape the day-to-day experience as much as navigation features or scheduling. WIRED reports that its tested Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra weighed 29 pounds and was cumbersome to lift; that is a result for that particular model in WIRED’s testing, not a weight or handling assessment for the nine models above.

What published 2026 guides do—and do not—establish
Independent publications and manufacturers offer different kinds of evidence. Bob Vila says its team tested more than 40 robotic cleaners and evaluated debris handling in inground and above-ground pools. WIRED describes testing robots for up to a week and using naturally accumulated debris and 100 silk craft leaves in its trials. Those are each publisher’s methods and claims, not tests performed for this article.
Maytronics, a manufacturer with a commercial interest in the category, compares models including Dolphin Nautilus EON 120d and EON 100, Aiper Scuba S1, Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra, Wybot C2 Vision and Hayward TigerShark QC. Its product descriptions and displayed prices are useful points to investigate, but confirm features with the product maker and treat displayed prices as snapshots, not guaranteed current prices. The models in that comparison are not a substitute for the nine-model Bob Vila list above.
Quick Recap
Check before placing an order
- Verify the model’s pool-type and pool-size rating against your pool.
- Confirm floor, wall, waterline, step and surface coverage rather than inferring it from the product name.
- For cordless models, check runtime and charging requirements; for corded models, consider cable handling.
- Review filter access, debris capacity and the cleaning routine described by the manufacturer.
- Check current price, availability, warranty terms and access to local service or replacement parts. Roundup prices and retailer listings can change.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
