The current Serious Eats review names three reusable food bag picks—not two: the (re)zip Stand-Up Pack ’n Go Kit for flexible, upright storage; Stasher’s 3-Pack for silicone; and the Ziploc Endurables Large Pouch for flat freezer storage. Those recommendations come from the review updated July 30, 2026, which reports testing 13 sets. The best fit depends on whether you prioritize easy filling and storage, silicone construction, or a pouch that stacks flat.
How the bags were tested
Serious Eats writer Madeline Muzzi reports testing 13 sets. The review describes filling bags with colored water, inverting and shaking them, and knocking them against a paper-towel-lined sheet pan to check for leaks. The tester also filled different sizes with raspberries, strawberries, and chopped kale; tried fitting a peanut butter and jelly sandwich; and left turmeric and canola oil in bags for eight hours before cleaning them according to manufacturer directions. These checks reveal practical trade-offs rather than a guarantee of performance in every use. Serious Eats found lighter, flexible PEVA bags easier to open and close than thick silicone models, which could be harder to seal. Upright bags were easier to fill and store; flat bags suited freezer stacking. Cleaning and storage bulk also matter: silicone may resist visible staining better, while its thickness can take up more cabinet space.

The kit contains five food-safe PEVA bags: two 8-ounce bags, two 16-ounce bags, and one 32-ounce bag. Serious Eats lists them as dishwasher-safe. In the review’s reported inversion test, none of the (re)zip bags leaked. The reviewer favored their balance of flexibility and structure: they stand upright, open wide for filling, and can fold down for shallower storage.

The translucent PEVA shows staining more readily than tinted silicone, and the thinner material may be more prone to rips or holes. Choose the kit if easy access, upright filling, and flexible storage matter more than the thicker feel of silicone. See the (re)zip review details.
Best silicone set: Stasher 3-Pack
The set includes three silicone bags in 8-, 16-, and 32-ounce sizes. Serious Eats praises their wide mouths, range of sizes, stability while filling, dishwasher-safe care, and minimal visible staining. Editor Rochelle Bilow reports using them in place of food storage containers, noting that their ability to stand upright helps keep leftovers from getting mangled in the refrigerator.

The thicker seal was harder to close than thinner models, and the bags spilled when inverted and shaken vigorously in the review. Thick silicone also takes more storage space. Stasher is a reasonable choice when you want silicone and bags that stand up, but the test does not support treating the seal as secure against vigorous agitation. See the Stasher review details.
Best for flat freezer storage: Ziploc Endurables Large Pouch
The reviewed large silicone pouch holds 8 cups (one-half gallon), is listed as dishwasher-safe, and lays flat. A flat shape can fold and stack conveniently on freezer shelves, where upright storage is less useful.

Serious Eats cautions that a gap in the seal can let contents spill and advises against storing liquid-heavy ingredients in this pouch. Consider it for freezer items that benefit from flat stacking, not as the first choice for liquids. See the Ziploc Endurables review details.
How to choose among the three
- For flexible, upright everyday storage: The (re)zip kit combines wide openings and stand-up structure; its PEVA may show stains and is thinner than silicone.
- For a silicone set in several sizes: Stasher offers three capacities and stood upright for filling, but its thick seal was harder to close and it spilled during vigorous shaking in the test.
- For flat freezer stacking: The Ziploc pouch lays flat and holds a half gallon, but avoid liquid-heavy contents because a seal gap can cause spills.
How to clean and dry reusable food bags
Follow the care directions for the specific bag. Serious Eats lists dishwasher-safe care for all three picks, but drying thoroughly matters whether you wash by hand or use a dishwasher. Lingering water can lead to mildew and a musty smell.

- After washing, set the bag upside down in a drying rack.
- Prop it open with a utensil so air can reach the inside.
- Wait until it is fully dry before reusing it or putting it away in a cabinet.
For stubborn stains, the review’s FAQ suggests applying a paste of baking soda and water, then washing the bag. For odors, it suggests soaking the bag in equal parts water and distilled white vinegar, followed by washing. Check the product’s care instructions before trying either method.

The title reflects an earlier version of the Serious Eats feature. The currently accessible review was updated July 30, 2026 and names three picks: (re)zip, Stasher, and Ziploc Endurables.
