Consumer Reports uses a different and more laboratory-oriented protocol: more than 80 detergents, swatches soiled with blood, body oil, chocolate, coffee, dirt, grass, and salad dressing, two cool-water washes in a front-loading machine, colorimeter measurements of remaining color, and hard-water testing.
