The Best Fly Traps The Spruce Has Tested: 6 Identifiable Picks by Pest and Placement

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The best fly trap depends on the fly problem and where it is happening. For fruit flies around a sink or fruit bowl, a food-baited trap such as the TERRO T2502B is the most targeted choice. For mixed flying insects in a kitchen or living area, a low-odor UV-and-glue trap such as the Zevo Flying Insect Trap is more discreet. Outdoor garbage areas, sheds, kennels, stables, and patios call for stronger baited bags or exposed sticky traps that should not be placed beside occupied indoor spaces.

The accessible Spruce-related research identifies six products clearly enough to evaluate. Although the original coverage refers to seven selections, the available copy does not reliably identify a seventh product or provide complete testing data. Rather than invent a recommendation, this guide covers the six defensible picks and explains exactly where each one fits.

Quick comparison

Pick Best fit Placement Power or replacement needs Main limitation
Zevo Flying Insect Trap Discreet indoor control for mixed flying insects Kitchen, living area, or other indoor outlet Electric base and disposable adhesive cartridges Ongoing cartridge cost; captured insects become visible during disposal
TERRO Fruit Fly Trap T2502B Fruit flies Near fruit bowls, sinks, trash cans, or counters Disposable liquid-lure trap; up to 45 days per trap according to the manufacturer Specialized for fruit flies, not a universal house-fly trap
Safer Home Indoor Fly Trap Indoor plug-in trapping when a larger coverage claim is useful Near an indoor outlet, such as a kitchen UV-LED plug-in design; current cartridge and coverage details should be verified Evidence available here is secondary reporting
Lfsys Window Fly Traps Flies entering through a known window Glass or another identified entry point Adhesive strips; package and service details can change Not a whole-room solution; full testing specifications were not available
Raid Fly Ribbon Low-cost sticky coverage in a utility area Shed, garage, or outdoor area No electricity, insecticide, or refill reported Exposed, unattractive adhesive can touch skin or walls
Flies Be Gone Original Fly Trap Severe outdoor house-fly pressure Garbage, livestock, kennel, ranch, or other outdoor source area Disposable baited bag using Formula KM34, according to the manufacturer Odor makes it unsuitable as a discreet indoor kitchen trap

Prices, package counts, stock, model numbers, replacement-part availability, and coverage claims change frequently. They are intentionally not listed here without a final live retailer and manufacturer check.

What The Spruce testing tells us—and what it does not

The available Spruce-related copy describes testing in real-world locations including a garage, kitchen, and outdoor garbage area. The reported comparison criteria included indoor versus outdoor suitability, ease of use, odor, maintenance, visibility, and effectiveness. That is useful for deciding which type of trap belongs in a particular space, but it is not the same as a controlled laboratory study.

The accessible copy is incomplete and visibly corrupted in places. It does not expose a complete methodology table, sample size, test duration, or the identity of every selection. The product-specific details below therefore separate clear manufacturer specifications from reported observations and secondary descriptions. A reported catch count or test result should not be read as an independently repeatable performance guarantee.

Best indoor fly traps

1. Zevo Flying Insect Trap: best discreet, low-odor indoor option

The Zevo Flying Insect Trap is the strongest general fit for a kitchen, living area, or other indoor space where exposed flypaper and bait odor would be unwelcome. Zevo describes a reusable plug-in base that combines blue and ultraviolet light with a disposable adhesive cartridge. The adhesive faces the wall, which helps conceal trapped insects while the device is operating.

The manufacturer positions the trap for house flies, fruit flies, and gnats, and describes it as fragrance-free and odor-free. That makes it a better indoor choice than a baited outdoor bag when the infestation involves more than tiny fruit flies or when the reader wants a relatively discreet device. Spruce-related reporting selected it as a favorite plug-in option and described a reduction in flying-insect activity during home testing; that observation should be treated as reported testing, not a guarantee for every room.

  • Choose it when: you want low-odor indoor control for mixed flying insects.
  • Place it: near the area where insects are active and where an outlet is available, while keeping normal food-handling and label instructions in mind.
  • Expect: a reusable base but recurring adhesive-cartridge purchases.
  • Watch for: a visible collection of insects when the cartridge is removed, even though the wall-facing design hides most catches during use.

Existing owners should confirm the exact device generation before buying Zevo refill cartridges. The trap depends on disposable adhesive inserts, and compatibility should not be assumed across every version or package listing.

2. Safer Home Indoor Fly Trap: best reported high-catch indoor alternative

The Safer Home Indoor Fly Trap is another UV-LED wall plug-in designed for indoor use. A June 20, 2026 NJ.com shopping roundup attributed testing to The Spruce and reported that a unit placed near a kitchen outlet caught more than 50 fruit flies, as well as a moth and a larger housefly. The same secondary report described coverage of up to 400 square feet.

Those results make the Safer Home a plausible alternative for readers who want an indoor plug-in trap and are dealing with more than one type of flying insect. However, the evidence available here is secondary rather than the original Spruce article or a current manufacturer specification sheet. Verify the model number, current coverage statement, and replacement-cartridge availability before treating those details as current.

Best kitchen trap for fruit flies

3. TERRO Fruit Fly Trap T2502B: best targeted choice for fruit flies

The TERRO Fruit Fly Trap T2502B is designed for a narrower problem than the plug-in traps: adult fruit flies gathering around food and moisture. The apple-shaped, ready-to-use trap contains a non-staining, food-based liquid lure. TERRO recommends placing it near fruit bowls, trash cans, sinks, and kitchen counters.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Each trap lasts up to 45 days according to the manufacturer. A two-trap package therefore provides up to 90 days of total lure supply, although the traps operate separately rather than functioning as one 90-day unit. TERRO says captured adult fruit flies cannot escape and that a decrease should become noticeable within days. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.

  • Choose it when: the insects are very small and concentrated around fruit, a sink, recycling, a trash can, or damp organic residue.
  • Place it: beside the suspected source rather than across the room.
  • Expect: a disposable trap; the manufacturer does not sell replacement lure separately.
  • Do not expect: a specialized fruit-fly lure to solve a large outdoor house-fly problem.

This is the clearest example of why a trap should match the pest. A food-based lure can be more appropriate for fruit flies than a general UV trap, but it still will not remove the breeding material that keeps producing new adults.

Best trap for a known window entry point

4. Lfsys Window Fly Traps: best for flies coming through one window

The Lfsys Window Fly Traps, identified in secondary commerce coverage as a 50-pack, suit a very specific situation: flies repeatedly enter through a particular window or gather on its glass. Adhesive strips placed at that point can intercept insects before they spread through the room.

This is an entry-point tool, not a replacement for screening, weatherstripping, a closed window, or source control. It makes the most sense when observation confirms that one opening is the route indoors. If flies appear throughout the kitchen without a clear entry path, strips on one window are unlikely to address the main problem.

  • Choose it when: you can identify a window as the main entry route.
  • Place it: on the recommended glass or surface at the entry point, following the package directions.
  • Watch for: adhesive residue, visible strips, and non-target insects.

Best outdoor and utility-area fly traps

5. Raid Fly Ribbon: best inexpensive sticky coverage

Raid Fly Ribbon is the simple, low-cost option for a shed, garage, utility area, or another location where appearance matters less than broad sticky coverage. The indexed Spruce-related copy describes the ribbon as odorless and pesticide-free, requiring neither electricity nor a refill. It can catch multiple types of flying insects.

That reporting also describes a ribbon catching flies outdoors near a shed. The same source says a ribbon can hold up to 100 flies and that a carton contains 10 traps, but those figures should be checked against the current package because the accessible copy is not an official Raid product page.

The trade-off is the exposed adhesive. It can transfer to skin or walls, the ribbon may break if pulled too hard, and it can catch non-target flying insects. It is also visually unattractive, making it a poor choice directly beside a dining area or in a prominent living space.

  • Choose it when: you need passive, inexpensive coverage and do not want to supply electricity.
  • Place it: in a utility or outdoor area away from people, walls that could be marked, and locations where non-target insects are a concern.
  • Handle it: carefully during installation and removal; do not pull the adhesive strip aggressively.

6. Flies Be Gone Original Fly Trap: best for heavy outdoor fly pressure

The Flies Be Gone Original Fly Trap is a disposable outdoor bait bag for situations that are too intense for a small indoor trap: garbage areas, horse ranches, stables, dog kennels, restaurants, and large outdoor spaces. The manufacturer describes it as nontoxic, uses Formula KM34 bait, and claims that one bag can catch thousands of flies.

The important qualification is odor. This is a lure intended to draw large numbers of flies, not a discreet product for a kitchen counter. Place it outdoors and well away from doors, windows, patios, food-preparation areas, and other occupied locations, following the current label. Its purpose is to intercept flies near an outdoor source rather than invite them into the home.

  • LONG LASTING. Hang your fly paper outdoor for up to 3 months before replacing. The gnat traps for house indoor may need replacing sooner in very dusty environments.
  • Choose it when: house flies or blow flies are abundant around outdoor garbage, animals, manure, kennels, or similar sources.
  • Place it: outdoors, away from occupied areas; exact placement should follow the product directions and local conditions.
  • Expect: an odor-producing disposable bag and a large visible catch.
  • Do not use it as: a discreet indoor kitchen solution.

The manufacturer’s statements about nontoxicity and capacity are product claims. They do not replace reading the current label, keeping the trap away from children and animals, or following disposal instructions.

How to choose the right fly trap

Start with the pest

What you see Likely first choice Why
Tiny flies around fruit, a sink, recycling, or a trash can TERRO T2502B Its food-based lure is targeted to fruit flies and can be placed close to the suspected source.
Mixed small flying insects indoors Zevo or Safer Home UV light and adhesive provide broad indoor interception without an outdoor bait-bag odor.
Flies concentrated on one window Lfsys Window Fly Traps The adhesive is positioned at the route of entry.
Flies around a shed or garage Raid Fly Ribbon It needs no outlet or refill and is suited to utility-area sticky coverage.
Large numbers around outdoor garbage, livestock, or kennels Flies Be Gone The baited bag is designed for heavy outdoor pressure, where odor is acceptable.

Then consider the placement trade-offs

Odor
UV-and-glue traps and fly ribbons are the better direction when odor is unacceptable. Food-baited traps have a lure scent, while outdoor bait bags are deliberately strong-smelling.
Visibility
Zevo conceals much of its catch while operating because the adhesive faces the wall. A TERRO trap is designed to look less like conventional flypaper. Ribbons, window strips, and bait bags expose the catch more clearly.
Electricity
Zevo and Safer Home require an outlet. TERRO, Lfsys strips, Raid Fly Ribbon, and the Flies Be Gone bag do not require electricity.
Refills and waste
Zevo uses a reusable base with recurring adhesive cartridges. TERRO, Raid, and Flies Be Gone are disposable formats, while window strips are replaced as their adhesive becomes full or ineffective. Follow the current product directions for removal and disposal.
Non-target insects
Exposed sticky products can catch insects other than flies. If preserving beneficial insects matters, avoid placing broad sticky traps near lights, flowering plants, or other areas with frequent non-target activity.

A trap will not remove the breeding source

Fly traps remove adult insects. They do not necessarily eliminate the material where the next generation is developing. For fruit flies, inspect overripe produce, fruit bowls, trash and recycling containers, spilled liquids, damp organic debris, sink edges, and drains. Remove or seal the source, wash the container, rinse bottles and cans, clean around the sink, and keep affected areas dry.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For house flies outdoors, inspect garbage lids and bins, pet waste, manure, compost, animal bedding, and other decomposing material. Repair screens and door gaps if flies are entering rather than originating indoors. A trap placed near the source can reduce adults, but sanitation and exclusion determine whether the problem actually ends.

A practical setup and troubleshooting plan

  1. Identify the pattern. Note whether the insects are tiny and concentrated around food or moisture, larger and associated with garbage or animals, or clustered at a window.
  2. Remove the obvious source. Dispose of spoiled produce, clean trash and recycling containers, rinse residue, and address drains, spills, pet waste, or outdoor organic material.
  3. Select the format. Use a food lure for a localized fruit-fly problem, UV-and-glue indoors for mixed flying insects, window strips for a confirmed entry point, and bait bags or ribbons outdoors.
  4. Place it where activity occurs. Do not hide an indoor trap so far from the source that insects never encounter it. Conversely, keep odor-producing outdoor traps away from the house and occupied areas.
  5. Monitor for several days. A trap may catch adults while new ones continue emerging. A lack of improvement means the source may still be active, the trap may be in the wrong location, or the insects may not match the lure.
  6. Replace and dispose of it according to the label. Do not improvise with full adhesive surfaces, bait bags, or electrical units.

If fruit flies continue after food and moisture sources have been removed, inspect drains and hidden spills. If larger flies continue appearing indoors, look for an entry gap or an outdoor source close to the building. If the infestation is persistent, unusually large, or associated with dead animals, sewage, or a sanitation hazard, professional pest-control advice is more appropriate than adding more traps.

Bottom line

For most indoor mixed-fly problems, start with the Zevo Flying Insect Trap if low odor and a less conspicuous catch matter. Choose the TERRO Fruit Fly Trap T2502B when the problem is specifically fruit flies around a kitchen source. Use window strips only for a confirmed entry point. Reserve Raid Fly Ribbon for inexpensive utility-area coverage and Flies Be Gone for severe outdoor fly pressure where odor is acceptable.

The available evidence does not responsibly support naming a seventh product from the source material. Whichever trap you choose, pair it with source removal, cleaning, and exclusion; otherwise, the trap may keep catching adults without ending the infestation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can one fly trap handle fruit flies, gnats, and house flies?

Not equally well. Zevo is positioned for house flies, fruit flies, and gnats indoors, but a food-baited trap such as TERRO T2502B is more specifically matched to fruit flies. Outdoor house-fly pressure usually requires an outdoor ribbon or baited bag, along with sanitation and source removal.

Should an outdoor baited fly bag be placed indoors?

No. Flies Be Gone is described by its manufacturer as an outdoor disposable baited bag, and odor is central to how it works. Keep it away from kitchens, doors, windows, patios, food-preparation areas, children, and animals, and follow the current label.

Are UV fly traps enough to eliminate fruit flies?

Usually not by themselves. A UV-and-glue trap can remove adult insects, but fruit flies can continue emerging from moist organic debris, drains, trash, recycling, or overripe produce. Remove the breeding source and place the trap nearby.

What is the best fly trap for a window?

An adhesive window trap such as Lfsys Window Fly Traps is the narrowest fit when one window is clearly the entry point. It will not solve a problem caused by indoor breeding or flies entering through several openings, so screening and weatherstripping may be necessary as well.

The Bottom Line

Match the trap to the pest and placement: TERRO for kitchen fruit flies, Zevo or Safer Home for mixed indoor activity, window strips for a known entry point, Raid Fly Ribbon for inexpensive utility-area coverage, and Flies Be Gone for heavy outdoor fly pressure. No trap replaces removing food, moisture, garbage, animal waste, or other breeding sources.
