For a patterned walkway or patio, QUIKRETE’s reusable Walk Maker European Block form is a documented option; for individual stones, Garden Molds offers forms in several shapes and sizes. The recommendations below compare published product details and instructions, not hands-on performance tests.
Choose a mold for the way you plan to build
A walkway form and a stepping-stone mold may both shape concrete, but they use different workflows. A Walk Maker is placed on the prepared ground, filled, then lifted and moved to the next section. A separate stepping-stone mold holds each casting while it cures before demolding. For a decorative border, you can also build a custom mold to the dimensions you need.

QUIKRETE’s Walk Maker project guide also lists Country Stone, Running Bond Brick and Basket Weave Brick patterns. Its project quantity example is four 60 lb bags or three 80 lb bags for three 2 ft by 2 ft Walk Maker sections. That example is specific to the guide’s sections; do not treat it as a universal yield for every mold or pattern.
Prepare, fill and move the form
QUIKRETE says the form can be set directly on a relatively flat surface, where it shapes concrete to the existing base. The guide also describes removing about one inch of topsoil and leveling the form as an option. Its procedure is to mix concrete to a plastic-like consistency, fill the cavities to the top, smooth with a trowel, remove the form promptly and position it beside the completed section for the next pour.
The guide lists concrete mix, mixing equipment, a shovel and trowel for the walkway project. Liquid cement color and texture additions are optional. Follow the selected product’s current package directions for mixing and handling.

Round stones and edging pieces
Garden Molds’ FAQ estimates 6 quarts of dry mix for a round stepping-stone mold and 3 quarts for an edging-stone mold. It gives 7 1/2 quarts for a square mold and 1–2 cups for planter-feet molds. Those quantities apply to different designs and use quarts or cups rather than QUIKRETE’s bag weights; they are not directly interchangeable. Confirm the specific mold’s instructions before measuring materials.
The seller describes edging pieces as a way to border flower and vegetable beds, lawns and trees, with pieces set vertically in a prepared channel. A cast border is not the same format as a single long, continuous curb; consider the site and the placement instructions when choosing between separate pieces and a custom-built form.

Cast and cure separate stones using their own instructions
Garden Molds’ instructions describe a slower process than the Walk Maker’s move-and-repeat method. For its individual stepping-stone molds, the seller directs users to apply mold release with a brush, add water gradually to the dry mix, fill and tap the form, then cover it with plastic and keep it level while curing. The instructions call for two days in the mold before demolding, followed by another week of curing before placing the stone in the ground. They estimate approximately 15 to 30 minutes per stone for the described process, not including curing. See the full instructions and follow the guidance supplied with your own mold and mix.
For this method, Garden Molds lists a tub or wheelbarrow, shovel, gloves, plastic sheeting and mold release. It particularly advises a dust mask when mixing indoors without ventilation. These are supplies for its described process, not a universal kit for every mold.
For a custom garden border, build a form to fit
If ready-made edging pieces do not suit the dimensions or shape you need, QUIKRETE describes a build-your-own border form using plywood or melamine-coated particleboard. Its guidance recommends Crack-Resistant Concrete for small castings, but specifies Sand Topping Mix for castings under 2 inches thick. The instructions say to let the described castings cure for 48 hours before removing the form. These recommendations apply to the maker’s custom-border instructions; they do not establish that either mix is appropriate for every retail mold. See QUIKRETE’s garden-border instructions before building and casting.

Estimate concrete and set expectations for reuse
Start with the fill amount given for the exact mold you plan to use. QUIKRETE specifies one 80 lb bag for its European Block form, while Garden Molds provides dry-mix volumes for particular forms. The figures describe different molds and units, so use the applicable manufacturer or seller instructions rather than converting one example into a general estimate.
Garden Molds says its molds should last 10–20 pours or more with proper care. That is the seller’s estimate, not an independently verified durability result. The available product information does not establish a tested winner for strength, lifespan or value among these options.
