The Best Bidet According to Real Simple Editors: What to Know About the Omigo Element+

Real Simple’s bidet recommendation appears to be the Omigo Element+, a $59.99 non-electric attachment with adjustable front and rear washing. Here is how to check toilet fit, understand its conditional warm-water feature, install it safely, and decide whether an electric seat or another bidet type would suit your bathroom better.

Real Simple’s bidet recommendation appears to be the Omigo Element+ Bidet Attachment, now listed by Brondell. It is a low-cost, non-electric attachment that fits beneath an existing toilet seat and offers adjustable front and rear washing with either ambient or warm water. It is a sensible first bidet for many bathrooms—but only if your toilet meets its measurements and your sink has a practical hot-water connection.

The most important qualification is that the Element+ does not heat water itself. Its warm-water function requires a nearby sink hot-water supply, and the included tubing is six feet long. If you want a heated seat, instant-temperature control, an air dryer, or remote-operated wash settings, an electric bidet seat is the better category.

The quick verdict

If you want… Best fit

Maximum manual positioning at a low purchase price Handheld sprayer
The most integrated appearance and broadest feature set Integrated bidet toilet

Publicly indexed evidence connects the headline “The Best Bidets, According to Real Simple Editors” with the Omigo Element+. However, the original Real Simple page and its publication or update date were not reliably exposed in the available search results. The association should therefore be treated as an attributed editorial recommendation, not as proof that Real Simple performed a laboratory comparison of every bidet on the market. Omigo was consolidated into Brondell in November 2023, and Brondell now lists the product as the Omigo Element+. Brondell’s announcement is available here.

What is the Omigo Element+?

The Omigo Element+ is a non-electric, under-seat bidet attachment. It mounts between the toilet bowl and the existing toilet seat, connects to the toilet’s cold-water supply, and can also connect to the hot-water supply beneath a nearby sink.

  • Separate front and rear spray nozzles.
  • Adjustable water pressure.
  • Adjustable water temperature when the warm-water plumbing is connected.
  • Retractable nozzles with protective guards.
  • Nozzle rinsing before and after use.
  • Side-arm controls rather than a remote or electrical control panel.
  • Operation without an outlet, battery, or electricity.

Brondell lists the Element+ at $59.99, SKU CBHAX, with a one-year limited warranty, as checked August 10, 2026. The product page says it ships to the contiguous United States and is not available for shipment to Canada. Price, stock, color availability, and shipping policies can change, so verify them on the current Brondell product page before buying.

What it is not

The Element+ is not an electric bidet seat, integrated bidet toilet, or standalone porcelain bidet. It does not include:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A heated toilet seat.
  • An electrically heated water reservoir or instant water heater.
  • A warm-air dryer.
  • A deodorizer or night-light.
  • A remote control or user presets.
  • Electronic oscillating, pulsing, or other programmable wash modes.

After washing, Brondell recommends patting dry with toilet paper. You should expect to keep using some toilet paper or a reusable towel.

How non-electric attachments compare with other bidet types

Calling one product “the best bidet” is incomplete unless the category is defined. The Element+ may be a strong choice for an inexpensive warm-water attachment, but it does not compete on exactly the same terms as a powered seat or a complete bidet toilet.

Type Advantages Trade-offs
Non-electric attachment Low purchase cost, no outlet, simple physical controls, and usually easier installation than replacing a toilet. No heated seat, dryer, deodorizer, remote, or advanced electronic wash settings. Warm-water models need a sink connection.
Electric bidet seat Can provide heated water, heated seat, dryer, deodorizer, remote control, oscillation, pulse, night-light, and user settings. Higher cost, more components, and a properly grounded GFCI outlet. Electrical work may be necessary.
Integrated bidet toilet Cleanest appearance and often the most complete feature set. Requires replacing the toilet and planning for substantially higher purchase and installation costs.
Handheld sprayer Low-cost, direct manual control, and flexible positioning. Pressure must be controlled carefully. The holder, shutoff habits, and user reach matter, especially in a shared bathroom.
Portable bidet Useful for travel, recovery, camping, or bathrooms where permanent installation is not possible. Usually less powerful and less convenient than a fixed attachment or bidet seat.

Brondell says electronic bidets and heated seats require a 120-volt, 60-hertz GFCI outlet, while non-electric attachments do not require electricity. See Brondell’s plumbing and electrical compatibility guidance.

Why the Element+ makes sense for a first bidet

  • No outlet is required. This is useful in older bathrooms, powder rooms, and rental properties where adding a GFCI receptacle is undesirable or impractical.
  • It offers a warm-water option. Unlike a basic cold-water attachment, it can draw from a nearby sink’s hot-water supply.
  • It has separate front and rear nozzles. That gives the user a more targeted choice than a single fixed spray.
  • Pressure and temperature are adjustable. Users can start gently rather than receiving a fixed, potentially uncomfortable spray.
  • The nozzles retract and rinse. The guards help protect the spray heads, and the self-rinsing cycle flushes the nozzle area with fresh water.
  • It preserves the existing toilet. You do not need to replace the bowl or install a new toilet tank.
  • It is priced as an entry-level attachment. The listed $59.99 price is substantially less than most feature-rich electric seats, although exact comparisons depend on the model and sale price.

The drawbacks to understand before buying

  • Warm water is conditional, not automatic. The attachment does not heat water. A bathroom without an accessible sink hot-water shutoff cannot use the warm-water feature without additional plumbing work.
  • There is no heated seat. The seat and bowl will feel like the room-temperature toilet you already have.
  • There is no dryer. Washing does not eliminate the need to pat dry.
  • There are no powered spray modes. If you want oscillation, pulse, a remote, presets, deodorizing, or precise electronic temperature control, this is the wrong category.
  • The right-side arm needs space. The controls can interfere with a wall, vanity, cabinet, or grab bar if the toilet is installed in a tight alcove.
  • The attachment changes the seat geometry. It adds a mounting layer beneath the seat and can slightly change seat height and how the seat sits on the bowl.
  • Not every toilet is compatible. Unusual bolt spacing, a rigid supply line, inaccessible seat bolts, an unusually shaped tank, or inadequate tank clearance can prevent a standard installation.
  • “Self-rinsing” is not “sterilized.” The nozzle heads rinse themselves; the entire attachment, hoses, control arm, toilet, and surrounding floor still require normal cleaning.

Will it fit your toilet?

Do not rely only on the phrase “fits most round and elongated toilets.” Measure your bathroom fixture before ordering. Brondell’s published requirements are:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Seat-bolt spacing: 5¼ to 8 inches between the centers of the two toilet-seat bolt holes.
  • Tank clearance: At least ¾ inch from the centerline of the bolt holes to the toilet tank.
  • Water connection: A standard ⅞-inch toilet fill-valve connection and a flexible braided supply line for the standard installation.
  • Control-arm clearance: Space on the right side of the toilet for the control arm, which projects approximately four inches on average depending on bracket placement and the toilet shape.

The Element+ is designed for most U.S. round and elongated toilets, including many one-piece and curved fixtures. That does not make every one-piece or curved toilet compatible. The tank shape and the distance from the tank to the seat-bolt holes are still decisive.

Measure before ordering

  1. Remove nothing yet; measure from the center of one seat bolt to the center of the other.
  2. Measure the clearance from that bolt-hole centerline back to the front of the tank.
  3. Look underneath the toilet tank and confirm that the water supply uses a flexible line rather than rigid plumbing.
  4. Confirm that the fill-valve connection is the standard ⅞-inch size.
  5. Look to the right of the bowl for room to operate the side control without hitting another fixture.
  6. If you want warm water, measure the actual tubing route from the sink’s hot-water valve to the bidet—not merely the straight-line distance.

The product’s detailed dimensions are approximately 13.46 inches wide × 5.55 inches deep × 0.25 inch high for the main body. The control arm is approximately 2.12 inches wide × 6.79 inches deep × 1.31 inches high. These numbers help with planning, but the bolt spacing, tank clearance, and side-arm position are more important than the body dimensions alone. See the Element+ owner’s manual for the parts and measurements.

Does the warm-water feature really work in your bathroom?

Yes, but only where the plumbing layout supports it. The attachment uses the toilet’s cold-water supply and can connect to a nearby sink’s hot-water supply. The supplied warm-water tubing is six feet long, and the hot-water connection uses a ⅜-inch T-valve. The toilet’s cold-water connection uses a standard ⅞-inch T-valve.

A practical warm-water installation needs:

  • A sink close enough to the toilet for the included six-foot tubing to reach safely and neatly.
  • An accessible sink hot-water shutoff valve.
  • A compatible ⅜-inch hot-water connection.
  • A route that does not create a trip hazard or sharply kink the tubing.
  • Enough room behind or beside the toilet for the line and fittings.

The Element+ does not provide instant electrically heated water. Water sitting in a long hot-water line can cool between uses, so a longer route may also mean waiting for warmer water to arrive. That delay is a practical plumbing inference, not a manufacturer-stated performance measurement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the toilet is far from the sink, the sink has no accessible hot-water valve, or the route would require opening walls, a cold-water attachment or electric seat may be more practical. A longer compatible line might solve a distance problem, but it adds more tubing and more connections to inspect for leaks.

Can you install the Element+ yourself?

A mechanically comfortable homeowner can usually attempt the standard installation, provided the toilet has a flexible supply line and the published measurements work. The cold-water portion is a conventional toilet-supply modification. The warm-water portion adds a second T-valve and a longer hose at the sink.

“Easy installation” should not be read as a guaranteed ten-minute job. Installation time depends on access, seized toilet-seat bolts, rigid plumbing, the sink-to-toilet route, and whether the existing valves or hoses need replacement. If a connection is corroded, the supply line is rigid, the shutoff valve does not close completely, or you are unsure which fitting is being disconnected, stop and use a plumber.

Standard cold-water installation

  1. Remove the existing toilet seat and clean the mounting area.
  2. Close the toilet’s water-supply shutoff valve.
  3. Flush the toilet to empty the tank as much as possible.
  4. Disconnect the existing supply hose from the toilet fill valve. Keep a towel and shallow container nearby for residual water.
  5. Install the supplied cold-water T-valve onto the fill valve.
  6. Reconnect the toilet’s existing supply hose to the bottom of the T-valve.
  7. Connect the bidet’s cold-water hose to the remaining T-valve outlet.
  8. Position the attachment at the rear of the bowl.
  9. Align the adjustable mounting brackets with the toilet-seat bolt holes.
  10. Reinstall the toilet seat and tighten the bolts evenly. Do not overtighten or distort the attachment.

Adding the warm-water connection

  1. Close the sink’s hot-water shutoff valve.
  2. Disconnect the sink’s hot-water supply line.
  3. Install the supplied ⅜-inch hot-water T-valve at the sink supply.
  4. Connect the six-foot hot-water tubing between the sink T-valve and the bidet attachment.
  5. Make sure the tubing is not kinked, stretched tight, or positioned where it can be snagged.

Brondell’s installation sequence is to prepare the toilet, connect the fresh-water supply, mount the attachment, add the sink hot-water line if desired, restore water slowly, and inspect each connection. Its guidance is available in the owner’s manual and its installation and leak-check guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Leak-test checklist

  1. Open the toilet and sink valves slowly.
  2. Inspect the fill-valve connection, both sides of the cold-water T-valve, and the bidet hose connection.
  3. If warm water is connected, inspect both sides of the sink T-valve and the full tubing route.
  4. Dry the fittings with a towel, then check again after the attachment is used briefly at low pressure.
  5. Do not leave the installation unattended until all connections remain dry.

If a connection leaks

  1. Close the relevant toilet or sink shutoff valve immediately.
  2. Dry the fittings so you can identify the actual source.
  3. Check that the rubber washer is present, clean, and seated correctly.
  4. Look for cross-threaded or misaligned plastic fittings.
  5. Hand-tighten first, then tighten cautiously as appropriate for the fitting. Do not force plastic threads.
  6. Use plumber’s tape only where the manual or fitting design calls for it; tape does not correct a missing washer or cross-threaded connection.
  7. Pressure-test again only after the connection has been corrected. If it still drips, replace the damaged washer or tubing or call a plumber.

How to use it comfortably and safely

  • Start at the lowest pressure. Increase gradually until the spray is effective but not painful.
  • Use the spray externally. The attachment is not intended for internal vaginal or rectal cleansing.
  • For front washing, use a front-to-back direction. This helps avoid moving bacteria toward the urinary tract.
  • Pat dry. Avoid aggressive rubbing, especially if the skin is already irritated.
  • Continue washing your hands with soap and water. A bidet does not replace hand hygiene.
  • Stop if use causes persistent pain, itching, bleeding, or irritation. A clinician can help determine whether the symptom is caused by the bidet, excessive washing, or an underlying condition.

Cleveland Clinic advises external use, front-to-back flow, moderate pressure, and continued handwashing. It is not accurate to promise that a bidet prevents urinary tract infections, cures hemorrhoids, or is automatically more hygienic in every bathroom.

One small controlled study found lower hand contamination after bidet use than after toilet-paper-only cleaning, but it involved 32 nursing students and electric bidet toilets in a semi-controlled setting. That result should not be treated as conclusive evidence that every attachment is safer or cleaner in every home. A medical review also notes that excessive bidet use can contribute to anal irritation or itching and that contaminated nozzles or spray can create cross-contamination concerns, particularly in shared or health-care settings. The study is available through PubMed, and the review is available through the National Library of Medicine.

Cleaning and maintenance

The nozzle-rinsing feature is helpful, but it does not clean the complete unit. “Self-cleaning” here means that the spray nozzles rinse with fresh water; it does not mean the toilet bowl, seat, control arm, hoses, fittings, floor, or attachment exterior is sterilized.

Who should buy the Omigo Element+?

The Element+ is a good match if most of these statements are true:

  • You want a first bidet for approximately $60 rather than a full electric seat.
  • You do not have a suitable outlet near the toilet or do not want electrical work.
  • You want adjustable pressure and separate front and rear washing.
  • You would appreciate warm water and have a nearby sink with an accessible hot-water shutoff.
  • Your toilet meets the bolt-spacing and tank-clearance requirements.
  • Your toilet has a flexible supply line and standard ⅞-inch fill-valve connection.
  • You have room for the right-side control arm.
  • You are comfortable patting dry instead of relying on a built-in dryer.
  • You prefer simple mechanical controls to a remote and electronic presets.

Who should choose something else?

Choose a cold-water attachment when plumbing simplicity matters most

A cold-water-only attachment is the better choice when the sink is too far away, there is no accessible hot-water shutoff, or you want fewer plumbing connections. It is also a reasonable option for a renter who wants to minimize modifications, subject to the lease and the ability to reverse the installation.

Choose an electric bidet seat for comfort features

Choose an electric seat if you consider a heated seat or warm-air dryer essential, or if you want a deodorizer, night-light, remote, oscillating or pulsing wash, user presets, and more consistent temperature control. Plan for a properly grounded GFCI outlet near the toilet; do not use an improvised extension-cord arrangement in a wet bathroom.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose a handheld sprayer for direct manual control

A handheld sprayer may suit someone who wants the lowest-cost permanent setup and maximum ability to aim the spray manually. It requires careful pressure control and responsible shutoff habits, and its accessibility depends on the user’s reach, grip, and mobility.

Choose an integrated bidet toilet for a remodel

An integrated bidet toilet makes the most sense during a bathroom renovation or new construction project when you want a clean appearance and the broadest feature set. It costs more and involves replacing the toilet, so it is excessive for someone simply testing whether bidet washing fits their routine.

Choose a portable bidet when installation is impossible

A portable bidet is useful for travel, camping, recovery, or a bathroom where you cannot modify the plumbing. It is generally less powerful and less convenient than a permanently installed unit.

How this recommendation fits current bidet testing

Current product coverage separates bidets into categories rather than treating one model as universally best. Good Housekeeping’s coverage, updated July 23, 2026, says it has tested more than 20 bidets over five years and distinguishes overall, value, attachment, women’s, and splurge picks. Its current selections include products from TOTO, BioBidet, TUSHY, and Kohler rather than the Omigo Element+.

WIRED’s July 2026 guide likewise covers different bathrooms and budgets and notes the need for a shock-protected GFCI outlet for electric seats. It identifies the TUSHY Classic as a non-electric option that does not need electricity but also does not heat the water.

Consumer Reports describes separate cleaning, ease-of-use, and installation criteria for bidet attachments. Its published method includes a 30-second spray test against simulated soil on clear plexiglass and considers factors such as easy-grip controls, adjustable pressure, and installation without fully removing the toilet seat. Consumer Reports also has a product record for the Omigo Element, but the existence of a product record does not establish that the Element+ is the universal winner of comparative testing.

Does using a bidet make a bathroom more environmentally friendly?

A bidet can reduce toilet-paper use, but “eco-friendly” is not a complete analysis. The attachment consumes water, and manufacturing, shipping, maintenance, and eventual disposal also matter. Electric models add operating electricity, while the non-electric Element+ avoids that power use.

Life-cycle analyses have reached conclusions that depend on the product type, usage pattern, geography, water and energy sources, and system boundaries. Some find lower overall impacts than toilet paper in many categories while also finding higher water use. Avoid universal percentage-savings claims unless the specific study and assumptions are stated. Examples of the available research include analyses in MDPI, this published life-cycle analysis, and this more recent study.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Omigo Element+ need electricity?

No. It uses household water pressure and needs no outlet, battery, or electricity. That also means it does not provide a heated seat, electrically heated water, warm-air dryer, deodorizer, remote, or electronic spray presets.

Does the Omigo Element+ actually use warm water?

It can, but it does not heat water itself. Warm operation requires a compatible hot-water connection at a nearby sink, using the included six-foot tubing and ⅜-inch T-valve. Without that plumbing connection, it operates with ambient or cold water.

Will it fit a one-piece or curved toilet?

It is designed for most U.S. round and elongated toilets, including many one-piece and curved fixtures. Measure first: the seat-bolt centers must be 5¼ to 8 inches apart, and there must be at least ¾ inch from the bolt-hole centerline to the tank. Unusual shapes can still be incompatible.

How far can the sink be from the toilet?

Brondell supplies six feet of warm-water tubing for a standard installation. A longer route may require a compatible replacement line and creates more tubing to manage and inspect. It may also take longer for warm water to reach the attachment because water in the line can cool between uses.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the Element+ include a dryer?

No. It has no warm-air dryer. Plan to pat dry with toilet paper or a reusable towel.

Can it replace toilet paper completely?

Most users will still need some toilet paper or a reusable towel to dry. Washing and drying are separate steps, and the Element+ does not include an air dryer.

Is a bidet safe for women?

It can be used for external front washing, but direct the spray front to back and do not use it for internal vaginal cleansing. Start with low pressure, avoid excessive washing, and stop if use causes persistent irritation or discomfort.

Can bidets cause irritation?

They can if pressure is too high, washing is excessive, or the nozzle or surrounding area is not kept clean. Use moderate pressure, clean the nozzle and attachment as directed, and seek medical advice for persistent itching, pain, bleeding, or other symptoms.

What should I do if the hose leaks?

Close the relevant toilet or sink shutoff valve, dry the connection, and check the washer, alignment, and threads. Do not keep using the attachment while it drips. Replace damaged parts or contact a plumber if the connection cannot be made watertight.

Can I use it in a rental?

Possibly. The attachment does not require electrical work and standard installation can be reversible, but the warm-water function adds a sink connection. Check your lease, avoid modifying walls or permanent plumbing without permission, and restore the original toilet connections when moving out.

What happens during a power outage?

Because the Element+ is non-electric, it can continue working during a power outage as long as the building’s water supply and pressure remain available.

How often should the nozzle be cleaned?

The nozzles rinse themselves, but that is not whole-unit sterilization. Clean the exterior and nozzle heads regularly with a soft cloth or toothbrush and mild detergent, and remove the spray heads for more intensive cleaning when necessary. Follow the manual for the exact procedure.

Is the Element+ better than an electric bidet seat?

It is better for shoppers who want a low-cost attachment without electricity and who can provide sink hot water if desired. An electric seat is better when a heated seat, dryer, deodorizer, remote control, advanced spray patterns, or more consistent temperature control matters more than low cost and simple installation.

The Bottom Line

The Omigo Element+ is a credible first-bidet choice, not a universal “best bidet.” It is most compelling for a shopper who wants an inexpensive, non-electric attachment with adjustable front and rear washing and has a sink close enough to supply warm water. Before ordering, measure the toilet’s bolt spacing and tank clearance, verify the flexible ⅞-inch water connection, and confirm that the right-side control arm will fit.

Choose it if simplicity, low cost, and no outlet matter most. Choose a cold-water attachment if the sink plumbing is inconvenient, an electric seat if comfort features are essential, a handheld sprayer for maximum manual control, or an integrated bidet toilet as part of a larger bathroom remodel.
